[00:00:00] You're listening to the Roleplaying Exchange. Tonight's game, The Sprawl. I'm your GM Joe. Now let's introduce the characters in player alphabetical order, starting with A. Hey, Double Checking. Still at the top of the alphabet. This is Adam and possibly for the last time

[00:00:19] I will be reprising the role of Banshee. She has gotten way over her head in this whole endeavor and you know now that the cybernetic chickens have come home to roost she's ready to relocate to a possible warmer climate that doesn't want to kill her as much.

[00:00:44] So, you know, I guess Australia is out of the question, but you know any other place. Cybernetic spiders. Papua New Guinea. Aruba. Jamaica. Oh, I want to take it. That brings you over to me. Hi, I'm Brownie.

[00:01:05] I'm also reprising the role of my character from last time, Watch. Watch is a kind of techie character who likes to stay in the background and be supportive of his fellow sprawlers and in that vein

[00:01:18] last time around we distributed some Schrodinger's grenades. So I'm really excited to see how that goes this time around. And up next is me. Hi, this is Chris and I'm playing Craig Serota, freelance journalist, and I am out for fucking blood. I am playing the journalist playbook.

[00:01:40] I am very good at information. I am also very good at causing problems. Up next. This is David. I'm Elena and I hit people. Yay. Elena is good at solving the kind of problems Craig creates. Was hired initially as Troubleshooter.

[00:02:04] Every time that Craig is in trouble, Elena shoot. And this is Jeremy. I'll be reprising my role as potentially the last time Julian Black, the fixer. Looking forward to seeing what happens before we either ride off into the sunset or ride down into a pine box.

[00:02:22] I'm not sure which is gonna happen, but stay tuned. We're gonna find out. All right, so you're in the hospital. Craig is on an IV. Elena's still hurting from last time. Hackerman and Craig's sister Elaine, poorly named, also hospitalized. Dr. Frank, hospitalized. Everybody else in pretty good condition.

[00:02:46] Target Rodney. Plan? We'll see. Mecha Mullet present. Mecha Mullet present protecting the family. So what's, what is the plan from here? I guess it was just basically gonna be watch and shoot, hold on Jeremy your fixer, Mr. Black, what's his other name?

[00:03:13] Julian. Julian and Banshee. I guess we're the ones that are either standing in the parking garage or whatnot, kind of, you know, trying to figure out why the others are being looked at. Look, look folks, I believe this thing's getting a tad bit too much but maybe?

[00:03:36] I mean, Craig's gonna come back here and kill this motherfucker, you know, or if Craig's gonna come back and get fucking killed. So why don't we kind of do two birds with one stone, but Craig don't get killed. How about we

[00:03:47] make it seem like we've already left the city? Maybe take our people get them to convalesce a bit and then when everything dies down we emerge and perhaps we could pin this whole thing on Rodney himself. Hey, if we got all those looks around

[00:04:04] then like rights in the air, egos, you know, it's a spacecraft Joe, you'd understand and maybe we could just make them think we left and then we just lie low and then, you know, pin a tail on a donkey and then actually go over to

[00:04:23] what country did we say we were going to? I don't think anybody did. We could go to many countries, but uh, so that's Banshee's point. You don't talk about the fucking country, you extradite too.

[00:04:37] You mentioned Barbados. It is because we want to make people think that we're going to Barbados. We're not actually going to Barbados. Yeah, I don't know about that convalescing part. I think we should try to

[00:04:49] hit Rodney when he thinks when he's still smelling blood in the air and thinks that we're vulnerable. I mean, he hates Craig a lot and that could blind him to a lot of things, especially if he already smells blood in the air.

[00:05:02] I mean, could we try to draw him out by just not really approaching him, but getting him to believe that we're sick of Craig's shit too, and we want to be done because we know that you know what Craig did to him wasn't right and you know,

[00:05:20] we can't deal with his shit anymore anyway, so we'll sell him out and then we can use that to entrap Rodney. What do you guys think? Ann? Julian? Well, I was thinking the kind of the fake-hour thing

[00:05:37] kind of the fake-our-own-deaths part. If we had somebody that could alter footage, we have probably the drone footage of us dropping a missile on a bunch of people in a car, and if we could somehow make it look like we were in the car,

[00:05:54] as opposed to the other people that turned to miscs, then we could just be like, hey, surprise. Or we could make it look like Craig's the only one left so when Rodney comes out for vengeance that he doesn't realize we're all there.

[00:06:07] Rodney figuratively sees Craig hobbling on crutches and that's our way to drop the net. Yeah, or gets blown out the door like he did because he did get blown up by an entire house. Out of character, this is something Craig could actually do.

[00:06:25] Like wake me up and tell me to make this and I will do it. And that'd be the way of killing two birds with one stone. Like all of us look dead, Craig's the only one still alive. I'm assuming that we put ourselves under fake names

[00:06:42] at the hospital. We need to do that before that doesn't hold up anymore. We've got Mecha Mullet watching after the family so don't have to worry about that along with Dr. Frank. I want to remind you, I took the playbook skill psychological warfare. Mm-hmm but uh

[00:07:03] I mean, I like the plan on pinning everything on Rodney so we get away scot-free or if we even want to stick around then good on that. But uh,

[00:07:12] I think we need everybody to figure it out on how the specifics because we all got a part to play in this if we're all trying to get out of here alive. Can we get everybody into How can we get everybody into the same place?

[00:07:26] Like, of course they're in the hospital. Do you want to do kind of like a time's lapse? We obviously didn't rest through them under their actual names. I mean, I'm still unconscious so. Well, I have an idea about that. So Craig's apartment is a storage container, right?

[00:07:45] And there may be other storage containers right up next to it. Those walls aren't very thick. There are so many. It's fine. Yeah, so it's a storage container apartment building. Right, so what we could do is we could hole up in the one next to his and

[00:07:59] cut a hole in the wall and use that to spring the trap on Rodney when Rodney comes. I mean, we got to get Rodney to come himself. And I don't know how much Rodney knows about what we've been doing, but we're quote-unquote friends with that AI.

[00:08:11] And we could get that good image editing of them all being blown up and then, you know, doing a dramatization of Craig, you know, leaving the hospital against orders of the doctor and have him arguing with the doctor and

[00:08:23] running scared and running scared into his apartment with the address to his apartment and have that anonymously sent to Rodney as though from our AI friend. That could lure him in.

[00:08:35] Or instead of having an AI that may or may not help us, we could always track down Lexi and be like, hey, I got a tip on Craig. I know where he's at. Everyone else is dead.

[00:08:47] I was just thinking the way all that footage could be compiled in a believable way. Craig is going to come out of his coma and you're just all like, hey, we want to use you as bait. Well, you don't even have to be there.

[00:09:00] We just need to get the footage to make it looks like you are. And then once we get our hands on Lexi, Elena can be turned like a pinata until Candy falls out. I mean, you trained her too well. I'm just saying, Joe.

[00:09:14] Like, I am still in a fucking coma. I mean, you didn't go down to double zero. You didn't go to midnight. So you're not coma. You're not in a coma. You're just asleep. They had to sedate you to do some surgical repair, but you're not dying. Great. Wonderful.

[00:09:35] Great. I love that I'm not dying. Like they could wake you up right now and you'd be able to go do something. It wouldn't be well done necessarily. Like technically it wouldn't hurt your character capabilities.

[00:09:54] Slap a stem on him and rub some dirt on it, kick him out the door. Take a soul tablet. Yeah, I like all these ideas. If we can pull a favor with the guy that runs the AI then that would be our best bet.

[00:10:10] Second tier, if we can't then I could always try and have my surveillance team find Lexi. Elena really wants to have a chat with her anyway. Either way, I think we got a good idea on

[00:10:24] make Chris look like the last man standing and barely alive running into his place in an ambush. I guess give me time lapse to where they're starting to get a little more coherent like You can time lapse as long as you want.

[00:10:40] That's gonna give, you know, unless that's handled now, Rodney will be able to figure out everybody is still alive and he'll be able to figure out what happened. He's competent enough to start digging about unless there is active evidence

[00:10:59] indicating that that is either not needed or not needed. The only thing I worry about is whether or not I am known as in the hospital or convalescing. You, we didn't give you a name when you went in there.

[00:11:18] I mean, yeah, you're under a false name, but all right, so I'm anonymous. Can we sneak into where they got the morgue of the dead mercs at time? Is that a way so they think that?

[00:11:31] Yeah, that would that sounds like a job for Jeremy's little squad of dudes. I'm fine with it. And if we're thinking we're going to use Craig as bait, he can be checked into the hospital as Garrick. Elam Garrick? Sure. I'm gonna go with that. Elam Garrick? Sure.

[00:11:56] Well, okay. Don't call him Gary. So yeah, how about you? How about you make it look like everybody's dead but Craig? Jeremy? I can do that. There's not a lot of left of the bodies since we dropped a missile on it.

[00:12:12] So I'd say the ID will take a while to actually come back positive that it's not us. Mr. What? Is very important. I need you to go to Elena storage locker. Here is key. There is a duffel bag full of arms and legs.

[00:12:33] Oh my god, that's a nice cow bag. Wow, yeah. You will need these to fake Elena death. Elena is too cybercult. So you will need to, you know, mix these in with mercs so that they think that he's Elena. Andu?

[00:12:48] What can we do to actually say that, I mean, this is retconning in a tad bit and maybe it's too much, Joe. But maybe if we're posing as the mercs who did the job, like, like the transaction goes through or whatnot.

[00:13:04] I mean, like what kind of deal would it be? Would it be for us to actually be able to pose as them? Maybe as a nice bonus, it'd be nice to get the money that they've been paid to.

[00:13:14] We're not worried about money at this point. We know trying to get the fuck away. I mean, you could get a lot of plastic surgery that would probably do the job. Um, it's not going to be like real.

[00:13:32] If you're trying to trick Rodney into thinking you're the squad he hired, like obviously the jig will be up as soon as he sees you. And you're not yet precisely sure how the contact was made, although I guess you could make a deal with,

[00:13:48] you could attempt to make a deal with Helen and have her like front your play and like bait Rodney into a meeting with you guys. But that would be, you know, otherwise without some sort of extensive plastic surgery look like these guys.

[00:14:07] And you don't necessarily have a good picture of them, although I'm sure that could be obtained. You know, you're going to it's going to be a lot of work. Let's put it that way. So dark glasses and a fake mustache got it.

[00:14:24] It's too much work. We should work on other tactics. But at least it was make it look like we're dead then. What do I need to do to make it look good? You just. Well, let's go to the old character sheet character sheet arena.

[00:14:44] Just roll. Yeah, just I would just use your hustling move, which I believe is. Yeah, well, either either one. Yeah. And you're just going to be getting that squad to go because obviously you guys can't be seen doing this job.

[00:15:04] So we'd be getting your like your other squad to go do this job for you. And then then you guys would be set. You are set up, you know, you're you're in the clear. You're you have faked your own deaths successfully enough that if you hide,

[00:15:26] then you'll be able to it'll it'll stand up. All right. Well, let's give us a give us a go. Anybody give me can anybody give me a hand with this or I mean, am I going to come out of my fucking coma given the adrenaline?

[00:16:02] Don't worry, this is the episode where Igor finds out that Svetlana was cheating on him the entire time. I got a 12. They did horrible with this. Lana's character arc. I mean, look at her. She should not be shrinking violet. She should have gone after Igor directly.

[00:16:18] This is badly. Where the fuck? She's in the hospital. She is crying directly into her pillow. She is better than these. I am actively trying to summon Julian. Julian, you get a text. I send a message back to Craig and Elena and just say, oh, by the way,

[00:16:44] on paper and as far as anybody knows, we're dead, except for Craig. So do as you wish with that. Wait, am I dead? No, no, you're on the run. Currently we're going to use you as bait. You're not dead. You're bait.

[00:17:07] All the rest of us are small chunks on the side of a road got hit by a missile. Funny that. I just respond with ellipses. Thumbs up emoji. Dot, dot, dot. You even text like an asshole. I mean, I killed all of this. What else does he want?

[00:17:33] I need to process this. It's a lot of process. I mean, look at what Svetlana is going through aside from eight bottles of vodka. Hey, Elena, am I dead? No, you are not dead. But you are. Yes, on paper. I put a little thing in there.

[00:17:57] Oh, by the way, Elena, I borrowed the spare arms and legs that you had. They're a little charred now, but it really sold it. See? What are you going to do with duffel bag full of arms, Elena? That's a very dangerous thing to keep around, Elena.

[00:18:14] What kind of fucking psycho keeps a duffel bag full of arms, Elena? Well, Craig, now you'll see what Elena do with arms and now who's laughing? Craig is clearly not listening and just trying to process. Like, oh, I'm dead now. You're not dead.

[00:18:36] All right, should we inform the kids of the plan? Or do we just want to keep having Craig think he's dead? Probably advice of plan. I'm going to call Julian. Hey, you're alive and awake. Hey. Infa-Sona live. I am both of those things.

[00:18:59] Yeah, so we came up with a pretty good plan while you were taking your nap. We're going to... We're going to fuck up Rodney? Yes, and we're going to pin everything that we have on Rodney.

[00:19:11] And then we can just roll quietly into the night once that dude is being tortured by one of two corporations. We're not sure which one's going to get to him first. All right, sounds fucking cool. What do I need to do? Well...

[00:19:28] I'm a little brain damaged right now, so like... Oh, we know. He's just coming out of the propofol. Yeah. So we need basically intel and information and dirt on corporations so we can pin it all on Rodney. Oh shit, I have that.

[00:19:47] Oh yeah? Oh yeah, we figured you'd be the right man for the job. What we're planning on doing is we want to leak that you're still around and basically make it look like you're going to try and hole up somewhere and smoke the little bastard out.

[00:20:03] Why would I help him? Well, you're helping him find you and then we're going to spring the trap and let the corporations find all the dirt on him and then we go quietly into the night. How do we get there? I'm not sure yet. Okay, all right.

[00:20:23] So just so I get it clear, unbait. Yep. Unbait. Okay, so I need to be the best fucking bait possible. Yes sir. He's already got a axe to grind with you, so we figured we'd lean hard into that. Well, just tell him I'm not dead.

[00:20:44] And I'm heading to... I give them a very specific location, which is one of my... one of the pallets I live in. All right. Now this will require a fast talk roll. All right. Julian, I'm dead so you need to talk to him. No, you're specifically not dead.

[00:21:13] Oh, I'm specifically not dead so I need to fucking talk to him. Great. Fucking wonderful. No, you don't need to talk to him. You're known to be not dead. Everyone else is known to be dead. Someone has to leak the information to Rodney,

[00:21:28] but do it in such a fashion that he'll believe it and not think this is a trick. Helen owes me one. She does. She does. Hit the street then. If I'm doing it in person, I get a plus one. All right. That is a risk.

[00:21:46] I will say that if you fail... No, I'm not doing it in person. Joe, I do imagine... I do demand a one-on-one with Rodney just so you know. Oh yeah, he's not just gonna like nuke you from... if it's just you,

[00:22:02] he's not like petrified of your combat capabilities. I mean, I fucking suck at it. Yeah. And he knows that and he's just gonna put a pillow over your head as you mumble into the ever after. Now, he's got some shit to say. Oh, okay.

[00:22:21] He would prefer to have a chance to tell Rodney what a piece of shit he is before he kills him, although I don't think he's gonna have a ton to say. But if he didn't have that opportunity, he wouldn't change all of his plans.

[00:22:35] But if he thinks he has it, he'll take it. Yeah, monologuing is a plus-plus. Yeah, yeah. Nice. Nice. He's an 11 on the old fast talk. You get in touch with Helen? She's like, God Julian, you lived. Thank God. I was feeling really bad about that one.

[00:22:54] Yeah, let's keep that on the down low for a little bit. Oh, all right. Yeah, as far as anybody knows, all of us except for Craig are currently post-mortem. We do need a little whisper campaign going out saying as such

[00:23:12] and that Craig's on the run without his crew. We need that he's heading to, I give the location. And we're trying to get that little bastard rat out of his cage. All right. Well, I can do that for you, Rod, or for you, Julian.

[00:23:34] But this is it. This is gonna be my last play. I am leaving tomorrow for Parts Unknown. And you won't be hearing from me again, but I will do this last thing. Well, I appreciate it because if all goes as well, we're gonna be doing the same thing

[00:23:52] and maybe we'll meet up on an island somewhere and sip some Mai Tais. That sounds grand. I agree. And then we can share recipes, swap stories, Nagi's shot at. It'd be great. Well, I wouldn't go that far. Julian, you've been a good friend to me.

[00:24:09] Well, as much as anyone could be in this business. I hope you survive this last little gambit. And I appreciate it. You've been nothing but aces in my book. I would have walked through hell to keep that friendship. So I definitely appreciate it.

[00:24:49] With nurses and doctors in tow saying, No, stop! You'll die! You can't leave. At least sign the waiver. All right. So anybody else got any plays they want to do? I'm sure this is going to be... We probably need to plan more than me just faking our deaths.

[00:25:06] I mean, you're going to want to be in a setup, in a situation such that you can... You want to get me to a computer. I'm sure we can make that happen. Yeah, that won't be a problem. I am dying, but I can fucking fix this.

[00:26:28] and hopefully the little fella will poke his head out and we can chop his head off. We need to start leaking some stuff to places to say that he's going to be there so we can pin the stuff on him and get him caught red-handed.

[00:27:49] before this final confrontation occurs? Well, I took a skill called psychological warfare. Right. When you attempt to influence the morale of your enemies by leaving evidence of violence while remaining undetected, roll edge. Alright. I am going to make his life fucking awful online

[00:28:13] before I make his life fucking awful in real life. Okay. And also, watch Banshee if you guys have any ideas. Definitely feel free to throw him against the wall. Well, I failed. Wow. Alright, so... Does this game have fucking, like, edge? Uh, no.

[00:28:55] You're still coming out of pretty deep sedation and your brain's not working properly and you just forget to cover your tracks sufficiently. So you pin a bunch of shit on Craig. It's not like the public will know it's not true, but Rodney will know. Rodney will know.

[00:29:20] Probably anybody with any good amount of cybersecurity will be able to figure it out. And trace it to the public library? Yeah, anyone at all could trace it to the public library, put in any effort into it. That plays into what we wanted to happen anyway

[00:29:38] for Rodney to know that Craig was alive and to taunt him. So that works for me. Sure. I'm done with this. Alright, the next move would be probably to go wherever you're going to lure him to. So who was with me at the library?

[00:29:55] I think you were by yourself, Elaine. Oh, Elena was lurking in the background? Elena is going to be lurking in the background all the time now. Just following him around with a series of bad wigs, different sunglasses and coats.

[00:30:10] Yeah, no, Elena, like I like turn over to wherever Elena is and just like, hey, help me out. You'll need help walking? Yes. Which way do you go? Craig gets frog marched out of the library. I'm just going to pick him up and weekend it Bernies him out.

[00:30:34] Okay. I mean, I can walk. It's just I need help. It's just hard. Honestly, I think it's funnier if I weekend it Bernies him, just puppet him. It's like, I can do this on my own. You've got no strings to hold you down, to make you smile.

[00:30:53] The whole time Craig is fucking complaining. All it takes for you to be able to stop Elena from doing this is for you to stop Elena from doing this, but until you run. All right. So Rodney's after him. What is the rest of the party going to do?

[00:31:12] Are you going to set up a trap? Are you just going to watch and then swoop in? Bombs? Snifers? We should probably set up the fucking cargo truck. Yeah, I'll say watch Banshee what you guys want to do. You guys have been pretty quiet.

[00:31:31] I still like the idea of making him think Craig is running home and then having cut a hole in the wall to the storage container next door and basically lock him in there with us and take care of it. I like that idea. All right. That simple.

[00:31:48] Cut a hole in the wall. Show up when Rodney shows up. Taking care of business. I'm for it because that doesn't destroy all the information. Somebody needs to be posted up because Rodney's probably not coming alone. No, he's not this dumb.

[00:32:06] Yeah, I think it's fair to say he's going to have somebody on Overwatch or something. Can I have my car covered up with cardboard boxes and other detritus? Absolutely. All right. So it's going to be on one spotlight kind of directly for like, you know,

[00:32:23] run over people getting in going into create a deal. And then I think Banshee will be I think hidden opposite it. So I'm kind of like trying to like if we're hidden, like beside and to the right or, you know, somewhere like that. Cars on the right.

[00:32:45] I'm on the left. So it's kind of like an X, like a kill zone. OK. What if Craig wasn't at the big massacre at the Space Needle? What if at the big massacre at the Space Needle?

[00:33:00] What if he called Lexi and was like, Lexi, I need your help. Money is no object. I mean, I'll do it. I mean, it's certainly possible that would definitely be. That's definitely going to be a role because like she's going to be suspicious.

[00:33:18] She's been in hiding this whole time. Yeah, that's true. Who exactly has she been hiding from? But I have you guys. You might be alive. Yeah, no, everyone's dead except for me. Right. Clearly I need fucking help. That's why it might work.

[00:33:36] But why it might not work is because she may not believe that you're actually dead, that everybody else is actually dead because she's not stupid. All right. So that's why that's why a role is required. So that's what we're going to do.

[00:33:48] Can I just if anybody else has a different plan? I was just thinking that because we could either kind of double down on where he's going to be at. Oh, Jeremy, I'm already doing it. This is happening. All right. Rock and roll, kid. Uh, hey, Lexi, remember me?

[00:35:34] But listen, you know, Craig, we've had some interactions. And while you're not personally my cup of tea. I'm not a lot of people's cup of tea. Yeah, I get the feeling that that's the case.

[00:35:53] But you've never dicked anyone over as far as I can tell that you worked with. And that's good enough for me. So where should I meet you? Excellent.

[00:36:06] Do you have any specific do you have any specific requests for this fake assassination or do not just as long as it's done, I guess? You need a loadout. Make it look legit. OK. And make it, you know, not lit. I like being alive. You feel me there?
