[00:00:01] Hi, welcome to the Roleplaying Exchange, in association with One Less Die. Tonight we are playing Dawn of the Orcs, a new indie game that has been provided to us by its creator Lime and Plasmophage.

[00:00:40] And yeah, our crew at One Less Die is going to run a- is going to do a run of this game. And yeah, so, um, yeah, my- the group that I've gathered here from One Less Die is gonna run a game for RPX for this.

[00:00:58] And, uh, let's dive into it. So yeah, Dawn of the Orcs, I'll- if you guys want, um, we can go around reading each chapter, like one person reads the chapter bits.

[00:01:08] Or I can just read all the chapter bits and we'll- and then we'll just go around and whoever's- wants to can do the roles each chapter.

[00:01:28] The Kingdom of Lania has lived in peace for a thousand years. The people of Lania do not know the ways of war and have no stomach for violence.

[00:01:35] The conquering armies of the Sterivites now rampage across Lania with none to stop them, putting all to the sword and to the torch.

[00:01:45] You are the council of sages that has been assembled to create the ancient sorcery and reckless science. Soldiers able to stand against the Sterivites.

[00:01:56] Inspired by myths of a spirit called Orcus who killed the wicked, you- you have chosen to name your creations Orcs.

[00:06:34] Um, uh, you roll a die six and choose from the table, and then, uh, uh, that will basically dictate, like, what you're, like, kind of, like, an idea of, like, how to, like, sort of, like, play your character when you're, like, making choices and such.

[00:07:24] The council of sages will make many important decisions on how orcs are made.

[00:07:28] Occasionally advise on strategies, uh, at the highest level.

[00:07:32] When making these decisions, if the council cannot agree on a reasonable amount- in a reasonable amount of time, uh, we put it to a vote.

[00:07:39] Uh, the narrator for each chapter breaks the ties.

[00:07:43] Mm-hmm.

[00:07:44] Um, and then, but there's a betrayal mechanic.

[00:07:46] Uh, if they so choose, each sage can secretly betray the council once per game.

[00:07:51] For a sage to betray the council, they should declare it after the option has been chosen by the council.

[00:07:59] Uh, that sage may then switch it with an- any different option that the council could have chosen at- at that time.

[00:08:07] Uh, if multiple sages wish to betray at the same time, resolve the betrayals in order that they were declared.

[00:08:15] So, it's a one-time thing.

[00:08:17] So, uh, one-time betrayal that you can do during the game.

[00:08:19] And basically just, like, say, like, the council agrees to do this one option to- uh, to- to build the orcs up and stuff like that.

[00:08:27] And, uh, and your character wants to do something different.

[00:08:29] And, uh, so after the choice has been made, it's like, uh, a betrayal!

[00:08:33] I say we do this!

[00:08:34] Jacuzzi!

[00:08:36] We're doing this with the- uh, with the orcs.

[00:08:38] And then nobody can really contest that.

[00:08:40] Um, uh, unless there's another betrayal.

[00:08:47] Yeah, whoever said it first goes first.

[00:08:48] Whoever said it second goes second.

[00:08:50] Yes.

[00:08:50] But once you make that betrayal, uh, make- once you make that choice, and you don't have to do that choice of betrayal.

[00:08:56] It's just- it's an optional thing.

[00:08:57] Uh, but once you do that, that's it for the game.

[00:09:00] You can't make- do any more betrayals in later chapters.

[00:09:04] So, just FYI.

[00:09:13] Um, the- uh, the actual mechanics of the game, um, uh, we'll get into with chapter two.

[00:09:18] Which is, uh, the creation.

[00:09:23] So, when first devised by the council, the orcs are nothing more than- more or less than a people made for war and able to kill, without hesitation or regret.

[00:09:34] The council has come up with a way to create them, and perhaps a way to control them.

[00:09:40] Um, so, orcs start with the- with the score of numbers zero, loyalty zero, brute zero, and clever zero.

[00:09:49] Uh, and they are around the same size as an average lanyan.

[00:09:51] So, about human-sized.

[00:09:53] Um, there's actually a scale at the very end of the book, or the very end of the chapters, um, that gives you a size.

[00:09:59] And so, a lanyan is, again, about, like, normal human size.

[00:10:03] And then, like, the- the scale goes, like, down and up between, like, stunted, diminutive, goblin, gremlin, green goo.

[00:10:09] And then, like, it goes up from lanyan to, like, burly, hulking, ogres, trolls, and giant size.

[00:10:17] Um, so.

[00:10:20] Uh, so that's the- that's where they start off as.

[00:10:23] Uh, so we are looking into- so we get to choose one.

[00:10:29] Uh, so, uh, if they are forged a hole from sorcery and raw materials, the orcs gain plus one numbers.

[00:10:35] Uh, and then we get to decide from what were- how- how were they made?

[00:10:38] Like, what were they made out of?

[00:10:40] And then, if any- if any lanyan can be turned into an orc through ritual, the orcs gain plus one loyalty.

[00:10:47] How is the ritual done?

[00:10:48] And then, if only some lanyans can be turned into orcs, and the orcs gain plus one loyalty, plus one brute, but minus one numbers.

[00:10:57] So what sort of lanyan can become an orc?

[00:11:01] So that's our first decision here, is like, how are we creating these orcs?

[00:11:05] Are they made from whole cloth magic and ancient sciences?

[00:11:09] Or are we turning the people of lanyan into orcs?

[00:11:13] And if so, are they- can anybody- can any lanyan be turned into an orc?

[00:11:18] Or is there like a selection- there's a- is there like a- a type of lanyan that has- that can be turned into it, so.

[00:12:58] And so they're imagining a bloody, uh, conveyor belt, but they just-
