Shaken by a nightmare he can't shake off, the siblings find themselves in a race against the clock: whatever's happened to Anna, they've got two weeks to fix it. All that stands between them and answers is a ruined necromancer's keep — and whatever's still moving in it.

[00:00:04] Hello and welcome listeners. I believe that you are either going to be listening to this on One Less Die or on the Roleplaying Exchange. And when last we left our intrepid adventurers, they found out that it was a hard-knock life. Not necessarily for them, but for poor Anna.
[00:00:27] We had a dream sequence and somebody had a bit of a nightmare. So before we get to waking up, let's introduce my players again, starting with my left. Hey, this is Adam and I am going to be reprisinging the role of Assy, the Drowl.
[00:00:46] And Assy is the one who has a little bit of night terrors, I guess you could say. And about night terrors, I mean, supernatural kind of spooky things. So I'm sure nothing's going to come of it though. Oh yeah, nothing bad's going to happen there.
[00:01:24] Absolutely on both counts. And last, but certainly not least, we have... Josh playing Tate Ez-Yaz. Yes, that's how it's said. It's totally not Swayze backwards. Totally not. Why would it be Swayze? Why would we throw Patrick Swayze in this? Because I'm crazy for Swayze. Like everybody knows.
[00:01:47] On a scale of zero to Chris, to the Hemsworth and the Ghostbusters remake, how himbo are you, sir? Oh God. I'm probably Chris Hemsworth in Ghostbusters. I do believe you are. I think we have achieved maximum himbo. I am truly the half-held himbo. Awesome. Well, immerse us, David.
[00:02:17] Well, we're going to start with waking up. So I'm going to need you to roll dice and figure out who wakes up first.
[00:02:24] So as the sun rises...
[00:02:55] That was good. Tate wakes up first. Yay! As you look over, you see Caroline is curled up. Almost a... So you know that thing where a small dog will just kind of wrap itself around into like, you know, that pillowy shape? So Caroline is wrapped around and there's the little squirrel just tucked into that little hollow made by her body.
[00:03:20] And the squirrel is also wrapped around a little hollow holding onto a really, really big acorn. And then you look over at Assy, who is lying on the bed, stiff as a board. Legs perfectly straight. Arms folded across his chest. Eyes wide open. Sweat just pouring off of his body. What do you do, Tate?
[00:03:50] What do you do, Tate? Honestly, I'm probably very intrigued by the fact that his eyes are just wide open. So I'm probably putting my hand in front of his face just like... He sleeps with his eyes open. That's a great trick! Wave, wave, wave. Yep. All right, enough of that. Wake up! Caroline's gonna be the next one up. So when you go, I'm right off of this. Wake up, what you doing? Like, grab by the shoulders and just shake or like...
[00:04:20] How are you waking him? Yeah, so Caroline unfurls and is like, oh, what's going on? Tate, why are you... Tate, how are you... Yeah, how are you waking him up? By the shoulders. Just wake up! Shake, shake, shake. Is he waking up to that or is he just... What do you want me to roll? Damn it, I gotta grab the sheet for a second. I think that this is gonna be...
[00:04:50] Are there will saves in this game? Well, there's recoveries, but... There's will saves. Actually, let's go for mental defense. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So this is definitely something where you got a mental attack. I think... Alright, so I guess I gotta roll a 13 or above, since I have a mental defense of 13. Okay, since you got a mental defense of 13, I'm just gonna roll some psychic damage on ya.
[00:05:21] Just cause... Yeah, that was not a pleasant dream experience. So you're gonna take... 16 points, oh, dream damage. Oh, Jesus. I put that on a character sheet for psychic damage. Yeah, it's just... It's damage, but it's not damage to your body as much as it's damage to your psyche. Ow, I got a headache. He hit your soul with that one.
[00:05:48] So, I guess I still put my hit points down to 14 then? Yes. Oh, fuck. Oh, Jesus. Okay. I had 30. Yeah, so do I. Yeah, so... Yeah, we're the... Why do you think we said we pushed you in front of us when a fight happens? And I'm like, hey, we're pushing the icons. We're pushing the icons. Person's head, I won't do shit, but... The Leech King, as I will now call him. The Leech King, yeah.
[00:06:18] Well, to be fair, your unique thing... Your unique thing is the reason why the relationship roll happens. You're definitely catching his attention with this one, because... There are ghosts that are crying out for help from you. You just haven't heard them yet. But he did. And that was a warning. Half your health is a warning. Yeah. Oh, don't worry, I'll take a quick... I'm gonna lay back down, take a quick rest, we'll get back up, it'll be okay.
[00:06:49] As you... Yeah. So if you'd like, you can use a recovery. All right. And let's talk about how recoveries are used, shall we? I would love this tutorial. Please tell me more. So you have a number of recoveries based on your character level. Since you are the rogue, is that correct? Yes, sir. Okay. I do believe that your recoveries are... 3d8.
[00:07:17] Well, hold on for just a moment. I gotta check the charts. I'll go right ahead. But I do believe that you are right, sir. 3d8 plus zero? Why add the plus zero if it's just... It must be because some other... Okay, so your recoveries are... You're gonna start with eight recoveries. And your recovery dice are... 1d8 times level plus your con modifier. Oh, wow.
[00:07:42] So your current level is three, so when you roll your recovery dice, you roll... 1d8 times three, which would be roll 3d8. And... Or it would be, well, run d8 and then multiply the result by three. And then what is your constitution modifier? Plus three. So in that case, it would be 1d8 times three and then add three to it. So roll a d8 and let's see what you get. 26. I feel better than I ever...
[00:08:11] It maxes me back out, though. So you slap yourself in the face, you shake it off. It's like, it's just a cold chill. Lich King, more like the Bitch King, am I right? I'm gonna need a nap. So as we're sitting, I'm sitting up in bed. Assi, did you wet your bed again? Sorry. Maybe that's why I always wetted my bed. You're just always... You're just always winking up in a cold sweat.
[00:08:42] It's always the Lich King. Always. It's either the Lich King or it's ghosts going, help me, Assi. Please. Help me. Like you've... I'm just gonna roll with it. You have been seeing ghosts with their grievous death wounds in your sleep since you were five. You see dead people and oh boy, is it hurting. Most of the time they... In this case, they fucking know how they died.
[00:09:12] Like, what happened to this one? Well, he's holding his own head and... He said let them eat cake and that's what happened. What about that one? Well, he's holding his belly and when he lets or raises that hand up, you find out that there's a lot of pieces that are just kind of missing. His innards became outards. Cuts in, cuts out. Cuts out. Yeah, Assi, are you okay? Like, is it the ghost again? I tried to get...
[00:09:40] I tried to reach a contact and something else contacted me. And... If I say anything else, it's going to come after me. So fuck him. The Lich King or his disciples, proxy, whatever, have Anna. And apparently there's some ritual where they're going to take her power, whatever that is. I didn't know she had power.
[00:10:08] She just had a really nice smile and... you know, a bubbly personality. So maybe this is... perfect. I don't know. She is too pure for this world. So... Killing is different. Sorry, what was that, Josh? Killing, it's different. It's too... Okay, sorry. Sorry, Fasic. So... Yeah. Go ahead. Oh, no. Yeah. So she's like, so...
[00:10:37] then we've got to get her back, right? Like, we've got to stop this. Well, I mean, I've already done it now. I mean, I'm screwed anyway right now. So I might as well go get her. So... Yay, team! Just jazz hands. Caroline puts a hand on your shoulder. It's like... Don't worry. That's the same shoulder. Oh, no. Oh, no. Yeah, that's the... Yeah, you flinch her. It's like... Oh, sorry. Don't worry.
[00:11:06] To be fair, when you put the hand on the shoulder, the nightshirt falls away and you see a skeletal handprint on that shoulder. Ah! That's some shit. Well, I was going to be supportive and say, after we... after we deal with... we rescue Anna, don't worry. You're not alone. Because... we're family. We have... we got your back. Right, Tate?
[00:11:37] Yeah. Tate just sees the handprint. Well, that's weird. Scratch herself in her sleep again? Is that like a black spot? Like from... like sailors? Is that like... is that a bad thing, by the way? Oh, is that a birthmark? Cool! Oh! That's hair mostly spits on arm, tries to rub it off. It doesn't rub off. No. Well, let's go kick some ass. Let's go to... priestess temple? The cathedral? Or the local cathedral?
[00:12:07] That sounds good. Yeah, let's get some... maybe some holy water, we'll wash that off. Yeah. Come on, Tate. Get that out of your mouth. Come on. Whatever it was. It's like having a toddler. Don't eat rocks. But it's salty. Um... It's one of the tasty rocks. Uh, yeah. So I guess, yeah, I guess we're heading to... I guess after we like... get packed up and some of that, we head... we're heading off to a...
[00:12:36] we're still heading off to the cathedral? Yeah, might as well. So that works for me. Um... so, um... just to do quick... quick recap... Um... Assy had a bad dream. Uh... and everybody had decided that you're gonna go to... um... the local church of the priestess? Yes.
[00:13:02] And you've also kind of figured out that the place where you are heading towards is the citadel that used to be the necromancers. Yeah. All right. Just making sure we are all on the same page. Yes, we were... we were warned by the big bad and we are spitting in their face. Because... family. Absolutely. For some reason, the... that's what heroes do. That just walks right into the window. Yeah.
[00:13:33] Um... so yeah, uh... yeah, I guess we... yeah, we go... uh... I assume it's like we can find the church in the local cathedral. Oh yeah, it's... it's easy to spot. It's that big building over there with the, uh... the light coming off of it and the... Yeah. Yeah. But for real, I'd still miss it. That's... that's... that's fair. Um... Okay, so... So just to have a little bit of fun, um...
[00:14:02] Josh, why don't you roll a die for me? Um... Let me tell you what kind of die you're rolling. Because I'm just gonna run here to the front of the list for a minute and we're gonna figure out what kind of person is gonna be there. So one, two... Uh, roll a ten-sider for me, please. All right. Let me go find it. Good. Okay, that is the ten-sider.
[00:14:31] Five! All righty. That is... Okay. So you get to the temple... And upon walking in... Upon walking in, you see a very, very tiny priestess... ... ... ... ... ... the candles. She turns around and it's a gnome. Oh, hello! Merry travelers!
[00:15:02] What a blessed and glorious morning! She's so little. Chonk, chonk, chonk. How may I help you today? Well, what do you think of this? Shows my shoulder. She makes the sign of the priestess. She goes, oh, that's not a happy curse at all, is it? No, I need a little bit of help getting rid of it, and I need a little bit of help getting rid of what gave it to me. She says, well, I don't think that we can do
[00:15:31] either of those things here. She says, but we can certainly try! She says, yeah, the Lich King, that is definitely some bad news. He is one wicked dude. Yay. Oh my god. The first person. The assistant to the principal. Yeah.
[00:16:03] I forgot my character's name. Caroline kind of like pokes up behind, from behind Assy, and is like, might we also procure some blessed water, or some holy water? Oh, yes, absolutely. It's right over here in the blessed basin. You know, there's a secret to it. All you have to do is bless a tiny bit of the water, and then when you pour it in and swirl it in the basin, it makes the whole basin holy. But I can only do that
[00:16:33] once a day, but fortunately, this basin is absolutely full. So I will definitely let you take some of the holy water. She says, now, I can't let you take all of it, because I do have to sprinkle the heads of a couple of babies later today to protect them. Because there's been a lot of soul damage going around. And she just kind of points it as as your friend well knows. Oh, that's been a common thing lately?
[00:17:03] Oh, yeah. It's almost been it's been a bit of a plague in the area. Fortunately, Father Peace Coin has been doing quite a bit to make the undead go away, which is lovely. Yeah. Well, that's just that's just grand. Just gives eye a look like gives an eye to to my my my siblings. Well, mostly to
[00:17:33] because because Tito Tate's probably not going to eight nods solemnly. Yeah. There's nothing behind those eyes. It's just blank. Yeah. Now, Friar Goodman now he went out earlier to see if he could figure out just what exactly was going on. But we haven't seen the Friar in a good day or so. So I'm not sure where he is. But if you happen
[00:18:02] to see him in your travels, do let him know that he is missed and we we're really getting behind on a number of the things that he used to take care of for us. This wine isn't exactly blessing itself. If we see him, we'll be sure to point or let him know that he's he's missed and perhaps help him come back. So she steps down off of the stilts and climbs up on a step ladder. She says,
[00:18:32] May the way of the priestess lead you home, child. And you realize she's a little bit older than she looks. She looks like a child. She's a tiny. But on the other hand, when she gets up close to you, you see the wrinkles around her eyes. You see the streak of silver in her hair. And she takes a bit of the holy water and just puts a line through the handprint. And you see it glow golden for half a second.
[00:19:01] And where she traces the handprint disappears. It doesn't go completely away. But the center line of it does. She says, it'll take some time. But eventually it will go away. She says, the curse takes some time to break. I'm not as strong as Father Goodman. I'm definitely not as strong as Father Peacecoin. But I hope that that will help. If you give it about three weeks, it'll be gone.
[00:19:31] All right. Well, I mean, that's something. I appreciate that very much. He says, and if you're going to be going out and tackling the undead, I would suggest waiting the three weeks because I'm not sure if it's going to be very good for you to go out there with that mark on you. They're going to arrow right into you. They're going to know exactly where you are, child. Dance behind Tate. Where'd he go? Oh, boy.
[00:20:01] But I'm afraid that there's no way around it. We're kind of on a timetable. Three weeks, actually. Oddly enough, this was intentional. Two weeks, whispers. Give or take. that's where we are. I am going to randomly determine just how many of those vials of holy water you can get your hands on. You can
[00:20:31] have five of them. Ooh, nice. Now, I don't know if holy water is an item in the book, but I'm going to take a quick peek in the gear section and find out. If it is, excellent, we will use it as listed. If it is not, then we're going to make some hand-wavium. Okay, so I do not see
[00:21:00] holy water within the book, and I just did a quick search to see if it would come up. And so that would be a no. So let me just take a look and see what we can find. If there is anything that is close to it. Okay, let's take a look at weapons average quality and see if there is a grenade on the list. The holy hand grenade of Antioch? It only works if you count three.
[00:21:30] Five is right out! One, two, five, three, sir, three! Okay. So I will give it to you as deals a d6. Okay. And it is going to be the, yeah, it goes against whatever defense is the least. So magic defense or mental defense, physical defense, whatever. 60% of
[00:22:00] the time it works 100% of the time. And is it like 1d6 damage against like anything or is it like specifically like undead and undead? Okay. Undead or something that is vulnerable to holy. Gotcha. And there are some things that are especially vulnerable to holy. Okay. I have added that in the nudge nudge. Yeah. Say no more. Okay.
[00:22:29] I've added that to my, I have a on the same page that same doc Google doc that I have all my expanded like talents and stuff of that. I've added a session inventory for you. Excellent. All right. So I assume as we, after we leave the, the, the church, I just kind of like look to, to, to my, my brothers and I was just like, so the paladin works at this place.
[00:22:59] What it sounds like, unfortunately. I think we need to, yeah, we need to, we need to find out what's going on with the paladin and, and, and, and Anna quick. I think say we, we've got our holy water. I'm sure it's going to work just fine. Oh yeah. We'll just go in there and take them. Shouldn't be a problem at all. Yeah. Not a problem at all. We'll just, we'll just put Tate in between us and, and, and if,
[00:23:30] if things go wrong, if things, if things go poorly, we'll see what happens. So, um, uh, do we know where that keep the, the, the necromancer's keep is, or it is about a day's journey to the south. Okay. Um, yeah, before, I guess before town, we leave this, this town, uh, or, um, do we, do we anything else guys? I honestly can't think of anything else.
[00:24:00] Yeah. She kind of just checks her hand axe and, and her, uh, her bundle of daggers. I was like, I think I've got everything here. Bantler. And to be fair, um, for every day that you wish to delay, you can, uh, choose to wait a day and get more holy water. She can make the enchantment or she can basically make the enhancement once per day. Can we try to contact
[00:24:30] our icon again? Um, I, nope. Once per session. Ah, okay. I, but we took a break. So is this a separate session? No, no, uh, okay. Yeah. I, I feel like we should probably like the sooner we get this, we get this done, the better, but, um, what, what say you guys? Should we, should we hold off and come back in like tomorrow? And like, should we stock, should we stockpile
[00:25:01] said five? Yeah, we got five, we got five vials. I said, what's one day going to matter? So we're, we're going to wait or? I don't know. That's your call. I mean, I'm kind of. Tape? Tape? You're the decision breaker. My, my, my, look who gets to decide something now. Yeah. Should you stay or should you go? Bye, do, do, do. let's go. Okay. So you're pushing for
[00:25:31] let's go today. Yes. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Fuck this weight and shit. Well, well said Tate. As you, as you, as you walk forward. Um, okay. So yeah, we start tricking out, um, south to the, uh, to the keep or to the, uh, yeah, the keep. All right. So another red dot or red dot line.
[00:26:01] Yeah. And, um, I did roll to see random encounter and do you want the good news or the bad news? Good news. Good news is that you do not run into undead on the way. Yay. You run into hob goblins. Oh, so you've got, uh, a couple of hob goblins that are setting up a clumsy ambush. They've got a barricade that they were in the process of building. And if you had
[00:26:31] waited a day to get more holy water, it would have been a rougher fight. As it is, they're just kind of standing there, they're working on building it, and you hear them talking to each other. And since none of you have the linguist feet, it's and then they point in your general direction. and so they pull weapons. Dagger. Thrown dagger.
[00:27:00] All right. We're just going to go straight up initiative here and let's cut our teeth on a fight. Yay. Okay, so this is initiative is the same plus modifier. Ah, yes. Okay. So you get to roll your roll a d20 and then add in your initiative. it should be on. So Raison, you are using the sheet that has it already calculated on it? Yeah. Yes.
[00:27:30] So my because I'd have the the improved initiative feet. I am rolling a d20 plus 12. What you got? Let's see. 16 because I rolled a four. Excellent. It's initiative but plus dex. Yes, it's dex and then if you took the improved initiative feet, which I do not believe you did.
[00:28:00] No. Okay, so it looks like I am going to be rolling 1d20 plus 7, 25. Nice. Dex based. So that's a 25, you said? Mm-hmm. That's level, right? Dex plus level plus C20. Thank God. Yeah. I do add something. It's not just a straight roll. I've got no dex. So just 3 plus 3.
[00:28:30] Yep. 19 total. Wow. So you guys, so I rolled a 16 on the 9. Despite the fact that I have improved initiative, I'm still on the end of the initiative. Yep. Welcome to my life and fucking Mass Effect. Yeah, fair. To be fair, you are all going before the hobgoblins are. They rolled like shit. Sounds good. Well, I guess I go first. You do indeed with a 25.
[00:29:00] So Assy gets to start us off. How many of them are there? There are two. Huh. Well, shoot. I guess I can go ahead and I can't quite sneak attack just yet. I don't think so. I'm just going to go with a bow strike. So I'm just going to hit them with the short bow. So that's row plus dex plus level. Yeah.
[00:29:29] So 14 hit. 14 does not. Okay. Oh, next is Tate. Yeah. Well, I guess I'm going to go run up and try to hit them. Excellent. Nothing else to do for me. What is this range you speak of? That's a thing for people with dexterity. Yeah. What's that? Yeah. If you're running up at them, it's me. Yeah. Yeah. You've got a sword in either hand. Yeah. Yep.
[00:29:59] You went for a pair of long swords, which definitely fits for you. Yeah. So I rolled an eight and according to this, it says eight plus AC. So it's actually going to be eight plus your strength mod. Okay. Plus your level. Oh, fuck. So that would be a grand total of eight plus seven, I believe. Yes. So that is a 15 and you will
[00:30:29] miss. Fuck. And then Caroline, Caroline, who is twirling some daggers in preparation, flings them at the at the at the goblins. All right. Let's see. One d20 plus and actually I have first strike. Okay. So what does first strike do? The first time, yeah, the first time you attack an enemy during a battle, your crit
[00:30:58] range for that attack expands by two, usually to 18 plus a mob of mooks counts as a single enemy. And then there's the adventurer feat. The crit range for your first strike attacks expands by one. Right. So that means 17, 18, 19, 20 is your crit range. So if you roll a natural 17 or higher, you threaten a critical hit. Cool. Uh,
[00:31:27] and I'm adding in my modifier here. So, uh, this is going to be eight. And the dice bot is out for blood today. Okay. Adam, odd or even odd. It is odd. So you did not get hit by the dagger.
[00:31:57] Fuck me. Well, no, I think it's a good thing, Josh. Yeah. Cause it, cause it, cause I was getting hit with it. Yeah. I rolled two dice. Uh, the first one was to determine who is going to get hit by the accidental misfire. And the second was do you dodge it? So the dagger actually just grazes past your ear and doesn't hit you. Sorry. So now I'm going to need to get ACs from you guys.
[00:32:27] Okay. Uh, the first one is going to be going after Tate. So what is your AC again? 16. Uh, you are going to get hit by a goblet or a hob goblet. So that is going to be a damage. Okay. And then the other one is going to go after Assy. Uh, Adam, what is your AC? 15. You are also going to take eight points of damage.
[00:32:56] Okay. Recorded. And then top of the round. Uh, Adam, what you doing? You know, if he's a little bit closer to me, I think I'm going to, let me see, shadow walk, shadow walk, shadow walk, shadow walk behind this bastard, save him in his head. All right. Willpower as an action move before you've used a standard action turn. If you're not engaged, you can make the
[00:33:26] following attack against thereby enemies, targeting an enemy amongst them. Now, you are currently engaged. Yeah. So you would have to disengage. Oh, okay. I may just use my slick feint. That seems like it would be fun. So the slick feint is I'm wanting me engaged with you. Charisma plus level versus mind defense. So let's see what this does. And then if so, they're kind of
[00:33:56] dazed. So I kind of cycle them out. D20 plus seven. Apparently I broke math. Hold on. I apologize, guys. D20 plus seven. Oh, my two ain't working. 27 work critical. It's a so you faint. That works perfectly.
[00:34:25] What does it do? He asked. The target is dazed into the end of your turn and you can make an improv attack against the second target. So am I within close enough range to actually attack the other one? Would that be a sneak attack at this point since I'm not quite engaged? sure would be because that one is engaged with one of your fellows. So you may make a sneak attack against the other
[00:34:55] hob hob hob hob hob hob has travere hammered damage equal to your level. On a miss even though attack plus I may have screwed this up dexterity plus level plus 2 so add 14 hit off hand
[00:35:23] 14 would not so to be fair each of them has been missed at least once and they are taking missed dice okay which is equal to your level i believe yeah so it'd be three damage it was a good so yeah how the hell does missed dice work so missed damage basically means if you miss the target
[00:35:47] um the target will take uh the or damage equal to your level unless you have an ability that increases it so even if you don't connect you're still gonna graze them for a little bit i actually do and didn't actually say anything about it we're learning we're learning we're learning so the one that you missed uh how much damage does he take on a miss like what is your ability
[00:36:15] i add a weapon die okay so then you will need to roll a d8 for me please three three three okay so that hobgobble has basically taken a total of nine because there's the miss from you and then there was the miss from adam just now the other one has taken a miss from adam and a miss from chris
[00:36:43] speaking of uh josh you're up again yay all right now remember at this point the escalation die is currently at a one so the 14 would have still missed because uh their ac is higher than that but you did daze the one so that one is still dazed until the end of your turn i actually have a plus two for this because i missed last time well fuck you 15 15 total yes
[00:37:14] okay uh you are adding in the escalation die of one that makes it a 16 okay and that is still a miss all right so it is going to take your miss damage which is equal to your level but you also get to roll the weapon die so if you would roll the weapon die for me please four okay so that is going to be seven and i also have an ability to uh comeback strike once for battles of reaction you can make
[00:37:42] another attack okay and i don't take the penalty for it anymore because i took the adventure beautiful so would you like to make that roll yes i'll just quick question because two weapon pressure any miss until the end of my next turn gains a plus two to the melee attack so does that stack with the miss i just did and the miss yes or because it's still at the end of this turn so it stacks until
[00:38:09] the next turn and so yeah until this turn ends so it's a plus four at the moment uh let me double check that if you don't mind not a problem that's why i'm asking because holy fuck because i believe that you missed on the first turn yes and this ability stacks until the end of next this is next
[00:38:32] still hasn't ended see which one was that one called that was uh two weapon pressure and got that yeah two weapon pressure i know we told you to take it because it looked like fun that's your yeah you must be using a weapon in each hand triggering roll is a miss until the end of your next turn you gain a plus two melee attack bonus against the target so i think it's just a flat plus two it does
[00:39:01] not say that it stacks uh there are some of the abilities that will say that they stack so for instance uh on grim intent the next time you would deal miss damage with a melee attack at a weapon um which one was it there is um yeah here it is on carve and opening your crit range with a melee attack expands by a cumulative plus one this battle since it doesn't have that word cumulative in
[00:39:27] there um i am going to rule that it does not stack okay so it's just a plus two but it is going to add up yeah you can make that second swing though uh well i rolled a 17 on the die and it's a plus not oh that's gonna hit yeah so this time 2d8 yay i believe it is d8 plus your strength mod
[00:39:57] plus escalation well it's 2d8 plus mr so 2d8 wait 2d8 sorry my equipment is 2 1d8 long swords that's what i'm looking at right now right uh you only deal damage from one weapon yes yes so three plus five so eight total that's a little bit low actually because it's
[00:40:22] so you rolled a three correct yes okay so let's math it together uh plus four plus the escalation five plus your level oh the level two yes yes uh since you hit you get to add strength mod plus level plus i know we're throwing a lot of math out there and just stick with me because we're going to get there so that is we're learning we're learning we're learning we're learning should be a lot of
[00:40:52] yes so that one is hurting but still up and then that takes us to caroline okay there's one day don't forget yeah also i have double ranged attack uh as a as another feat i have okay so you should be throwing two daggers each time yeah yeah uh i just i was like reading that i was like ah crap but
[00:41:19] yeah you were caught off guard yeah to be fair you did almost stab your brother in the back by accident i also rolled it at once so yeah yeah yeah um so we'll just call that even yes like that one that ends your attack uh yeah because it also seems like so uh when you attack with a ranged weapon that does not need to be reloaded your default option is to make a double ranged attack your weapon damage
[00:41:43] uh die drops by one notch usually from d8s to d6s which in this case daggers only do d4 damage so since a d4 is the smallest die in here i'm just gonna let you have it okay uh if your first attack is a natural even roll a hit or a miss you can use a second attack as a free action if you
[00:42:07] decide you don't yeah if you decide you don't want to use it um a range attack um when firing your bow or other ranged weapon you must declare it before you're rolling your attack uh and then the single attack does deal normal damage instead of the reduced dice damage and then as the adventurer feat uh your second attack gains a plus two attack bonus again uh if it is against a different target
[00:42:34] okay so what i was thinking um and let me know if this is how you can do it my i'm go i'm planning on having my first attack go against um the one hobgoblin and then the second attack is going to go against the other one okay if you'll permit that if i will definitely permit that however i would like to point out if i may yep uh that you are going to be throwing into melee that is true go for it
[00:43:04] are you guys okay with that it don't matter if we're okay you're not gonna drop me that's true yeah you're probably not gonna drop them maybe i don't know can you do 76 damage in a single strike no that i'm fine okay so one d so one d20 plus eight um yeah because i'm gonna say caroline's feeling a little cocky right now on this it's like even though like it's like oh it's getting stabbed
[00:43:31] got it that was that was a fluke that was a fluke that first strike that first attack uh so let's see what the first one 14 uh yeah so you are gonna add one in into that because you are um we're in second round uh yes we are in the second round so the escalation is at a one yeah so that'd be a 15 and that is still a miss okay but also because also because the 15 it wouldn't be an even one so
[00:44:01] my unless that's like the role like the actual the the base role if it's an even number um if your first attack is a natural oh it is a natural even role yeah they usually say yeah so yeah you can make a second attack as a free action okay um in this case um yeah you don't get to fire it okay because it has to be an even roll uh natural even roll natural so yeah so what was the die when
[00:44:31] you rolled it six uh it was six yeah so that is a natural even roll you can make the second swing all right cool this one is going into melee yeah miss if you miss you're going to hit josh yeah he's got he's got the power i got the power um and so this is going to be uh i had a be a plus nine because of the moment uh because of the momentum roll or is that just you don't get
[00:44:56] momentum because you're not a rogue you're a ranger but you get a plus two because of the adventure feet right okay and it is against a different target yes okay all right so it'd be so so i still roll my um my dexter i still have my dexterity modifier correct okay so dex plus the two plus two
[00:45:20] 23 congratulations you peg him okay uh so what is gonna be one d i know how many hit points he has um so i'm gonna tell you that you are going to kill him okay before you even roll but i would like to know how much you kill him by fair enough so he's got one hit point left motherfucker uh i
[00:45:42] actually wow nine like the full the full damage so actually gosh uh he had five and so the minimum amount that was going to be added to that was going to be yeah i think four because level plus escalation is going to be four so that alone means you're going to kill him so he was within range
[00:46:06] and um you did more than enough because let's see if i'm reading this correctly uh so your dex modifier is a five yes the dex modifier is a five okay so that would have actually been a grand total of nine ten eleven twelve thirteen you actually did 13 damage jeez oh we had okay right okay because
[00:46:31] you add your level and you also add the escalation die when you hit so that one is down and uh because i am feeling extremely nice i'm going to tell you that he was going to use an ability and he tried to and it did not work out so good for him so hobgoblins can um ignore all damage from
[00:46:56] a hit but not a crit against their ac because that's uh an ability called well armored okay but had you done or he would have ignored all the damage from the hit but your missed damage alone was going to so yeah oh he died oh he did and the other one because for every two that are in a group they get uh one use of well armored for battle he burned it so there you go um yeah goblin is going to take a
[00:47:26] swing because he sees assy and he's going to try and whiff so assy is going to take two damage nope he's stunned he ain't doing anything uh he is stunned until the end of your turn the next your turn is over i thought it was next turn let me double check that uh uh target on a hit is date since the end of your next turn next turn okay or does that mean the second attack that i make
[00:47:54] uh your next turn so that means he is still dazed okay i misread my apologies i thought it was just until the end of your turn so i apologize if i sounded snarky on that one no it's all good uh so top of the round uh assy what you're going to do uh if your days that wouldn't you assume that a sneak attack works pretty good i would not assume so because um sneak attack does not have all of the
[00:48:24] rules that it would in dnd oh that's a good point basically sneak attack is once per round when you make a melee attack against an enemy engaged with one or more of your allies you do the bonus damage however you do have the adventure feat once per day as a free action you can add your sneak attack damage to any hit against one target that you would not otherwise have qualified for the damage
[00:48:47] so right now since no none of your uh party members are engaged with that one you can use your once per day adventure feat on this one if you so choose i think i'll just flat out row damage on this guy here we may i don't know if we're gonna make it it'll be day two when we're at them or not at the where the other thing is so it's one d20 plus so typically seven but the escalation dice increases
[00:49:14] that by one right correct so it's so it's d20 plus eight right now 25 oh that'll hit and i think a short sir sword does one d6 short sword does one d8 one d8 which is actually kind of weird looking at the rogue list as it's written in the book rogue melee weapons small dagger one d8 lighter simple
[00:49:41] short sword one d8 or wicked knife one d8 heavier martial one d8 minus two attack longsword so you're dealing a d8 regardless of what you're using yeah and the momentum does it add on to damage so so your momentum oh this would be my first momentum so never mind it hadn't yeah yeah you gain momentum by hitting an enemy with an attack so i did four damage uh you did more than that because once again
[00:50:11] uh the way that damage is figured is um the hit deals weapon damage plus dexterity plus escalation so your weapon damage is four uh your dexterity modifier is seven naturally so but if escalation it would be eight i guess so that is 11 points sorry it's taking me a while i haven't rode combat in this
[00:50:37] game in four years oh good it's yeah it is all good that is it's what we do but we're learning so we have 11 damage he probably isn't looking great he is not he's actually fairly solid though he's still standing and actually our escalation is at a two so that's one extra so that should be at a 21
[00:51:00] uh then it takes us to tate yay what you do it i'm gonna hit him are you now let's see that roll and the best part is i still missed on my first attack last turn so i still had that plus two all right god well that's a good roll but i just missed my crit uh 18 plus nine
[00:51:28] oh you're definitely gonna hit him oh yes very much so and it's plus eight no matter what i roll level escalation two and yeah strength so god math hurting uh 13 okay so you rolled a five so that's
[00:51:50] 13 and with a mighty swing of his longsword uh tate just barely manages to take that one down so they have a grand total of 32 hit points and you just took that one to 33 damage yeah so congratulations you guys made it through your first combat yeah well we all do like a pose
[00:52:21] execute your two cell victory dance yeah now i know that uh two of you actually got hit hit yeah i got one hit and then i believe that uh you well you would have taken missed damage but you didn't because he didn't actually get the swing so you've both taken eight damage
[00:52:45] uh keep in mind you know what your recoveries look like and you've got full recoveries because you slept uh what do you want to do do you want to press on further sure yeah we'll get a little bit closer let's move some of this uh debris out of the way that they were building and just put that off the side of the road oh that's cute i just pushed it out of the way yeah no it's it's more like it's like uh tate
[00:53:17] tate hawk let's go sailing through the forest as you just yeet the debris away the barricade has been yeeted yeah it it with a mighty yote he sent it flying all right uh yeah let's let's press on gang and you do find the crypt of the necromancer and let's let's be absolutely clear here it is a crypt all right like a like a mausoleum kind of looking crypt or
[00:53:47] uh more or less yeah so as you're looking at it um this was once um this was once a great castle uh but as time has passed it time has not been kind uh to these stone ruins uh once upon a time this was a mighty mighty castle surrounded by
[00:54:08] a thick wall perhaps a moat uh there was a portcullis within what would have been the gatehouse but now as you look at it you see that the entire thing has crumbled to ruins the outer wall is reduced to a row of stones with perhaps a second stone higher uh the portcullis has long ago rusted and fallen to pieces you can see basically the equivalent of rusty spears
[00:54:37] that once upon a time would have fallen down and stabbed and or blocked people from entering you see where the gatehouse would have stood and they would have had murder holes atop it but there is no gatehouse anymore all that is left is a crumbling keep in the center of a forgotten courtyard um long forgotten tombstones and shallow
[00:55:07] empty graves fill what was once a great court and the keep's doors are wide open and leading into the bowels of the bowels of the earth i think since i did i thought i only had one damage but you said we took eight damage so i'm down to 21 i probably need to use a refresh if that's okay david it is okay so the thing about
[00:55:33] enemies in this is that um i don't roll damage against you um essentially what happens is um the baddies just take straight up or the baddies will do damage directly to you and it tells me uh what their damage is when they hit
[00:55:56] okay gotcha and some of them will actually deal miss damage okay oh cool so looking at the the graveyard like the little like the shallow graveyard and such oh no you're fine i'll just do my math keep going okay yeah so uh looking at the shallow graveyard that we hear like the all of the the plots um so are they do they look like they've been like unearthed recently or like they're just like
[00:56:25] old pits that like used to have uh have bodies in them then like that was like a while ago give me a role okay um this is going to be a wisdom-based role uh do you have a skill that is or do you have a background that is appropriate i think i do survivor of a distant massacre i'll give you that one
[00:56:49] because i'm so like i like because before i was in the orphanage uh my family was uh my family and and possibly village were slaughtered um that would explain the night terrors you had when you first arrived now wouldn't it yeah yeah so um so wisdom caroline my mother was a raised village my father was a
[00:57:13] slaughtered dojo i just call me orphan bane 2020 plus uh so i'm got uh four plus four for the modifier plus level and then plus one so five total for modifier and 21 okay so you notice that uh quite a number of
[00:57:38] these plots uh the every single one of them shares one common characteristic um every single one of them looks as though they were unearthed from the inside so the bodies literally leapt out of these holes got some of them look like they are old and long ago disturbed there are a few of them that look
[00:58:05] more fresher but none of them look like they were overturned like today okay more like like some sometimes pass for like some the lichen and moss to kind of grow back in a little bit but not a lot yeah okay um yeah so i i kind of report this to my my my my siblings and it's like uh yeah this these these great all these graves they uh the bodies can't like the bodies um pulled themselves out of
[00:58:34] the ground uh so i mean makes sense we're we're in the keep of a necromancer but um some of these are fresher than others not like yesterday but so the day before yesterday got it yes tate um so either the uh either the there they were uh they're they're new um but like not new new but or
[00:59:04] they're just like maybe the maybe the necromancer got cleared out recently from the by the by the paladin order if that's actually what happened if that is their real name yeah yeah if that is their real faith no um so we should probably maybe be be weary of of uh some undead down there just just
[00:59:29] perhaps i'm not afraid of undead that regular dad they scary especially when they get up and moving so scary that i just like take a second it's like i i'm not gonna i'm not gonna correct them just walk on in yeah thank you chris that's exactly what i wanted i'm gonna tell him don't you dare let him cook
[00:59:56] i'm proud of that one yeah um yeah so are you going are you actually going in there uh what else are we gonna do no no no but like i'm just asking adam like is he going in first it's more than one way into these places there always is well it's already down the stairs no so looking at uh god dang i wish i don't want to keep just using hard knock life and all so i was
[01:00:25] going to try to figure out a way to like thieves knowledge and stuff like that but yeah that work like the con man thing as well like if you're but that's always kind of thinking that more of a negotiation trying to get somebody to believe something that's how i would do i was a con artist so here's the thing about con artist as far as this is concerned um when this keep was standing
[01:00:50] right uh you would have basically been running a scam of some sort these keeps tend to have a similar uh similar floor plan and so you can think back to the uh the last time that you ran a con on you know a minor holding along these lines and you can make a roll and see if you can figure out
[01:01:15] where would be the other entrance thank you david you know when you were running some bootlegging of potions three critical failure nope oh in fact that i think it's probably a great idea to just walk in yeah it is a great idea to just walk in i mean if you did bring up the alternate entrance i might have a background for that but like you actually vocalize it's like no let's look for a back door
[01:01:41] yeah i mean i i kind of said that no kind of i mean i did i was assuming i was saying that out loud all right absolutely uh tate what kind of background do you have that would apply to this royal bodyguard oh absolutely oh yeah beautiful himbo bastard here
[01:02:06] uh hmm oh no i rolled a seven i get my level so so uh 12 not enough all right actually that is uh with a 10 you know that there is actually uh there are two ways that you would have been able to
[01:02:31] get in uh the first way is climbing up a thing called the garter robe is it still there uh no it is not because this thing has crumbled into ruin but also uh you know that that would not be a fun fun way in because of what the garter robe basically is see essentially when there's no easy way
[01:02:57] to say this when somebody royal must go number two when they are in a high high tower there is a shoot down the side of the building the original indoor plumbing yes the king is going to poop on the peasants because he can and that's what a garter robe basically is um so the poop chute is no longer
[01:03:20] standing which is a good thing however must mention that because the peasant equivalent of it is we're going to dig a cesspit oh god and if you were to enter through the cesspit that's another way in then that would be the other equivalent to a back door and that is still standing guys they'll never
[01:03:45] expect it like i just like look at like like uh looking at uh at what tate's like when when as tate's like bringing this up is like i mean like i look to the others it's like through the back door that comes out of your back door they'll never expect us to see the poop chute tate the new jim morrison the back door man
[01:04:11] this could be a redemption guys of the shanking of a shaw so uh you know uh as he goes to take a step in tate reaches out grabs him on the back and go we go up to poop chute huh and then you know yeah can i redirected it um can i use can i send the squirrel through first for reconnaissance
[01:04:39] no okay the squirrel takes one look at that chute and just basically just gives you the are you kidding look it just shakes its head like no looks at you for a moment spits out a wad of paper that's fair well buddy you're probably gonna want to be in one of my pockets then it finds the one that actually has all of the nuts in it okay uh so uh it curls up with the acorns because
[01:05:06] it's like invitation well you better get into a pocket do i want to get into the one with the knives or the one with the food knives food knives food tough decision food i should i go first guys or i mean i've kind of well i mean i've got to trap sense you're right uh i nominate you that's on the shoulder no no goes to pat you on the shoulder that like stops it's like ah
[01:05:32] after you so trap sense is a copy pasted even roads whose backgrounds don't have anything to do with noticing avoiding or disarming traps have a unique uh way for dealing with traps if a road skill check involving a trap is natural okay never mind it involves if i find one so yeah i guess i'll just walk on in well crawl in i think
[01:06:01] that's yeah i'll crawl in crawling in the chute and then tate you want to go in next sure and then i leave no i take up the rear so let's start with the good news uh the good news is that this cesspit has not
[01:06:24] been used in a very very long time and you can tell because of the fact that the cess that would have normally been in the bottom of this has dried up still dry poop that's the bad news but yeah the bad news is it's still dried poop but you know it's old dried poop it doesn't have that you know fresh
[01:06:46] poop smell that that's fine that consistency we all love yeah well it does kind of crumble to ashes or you know crumble to dust and stuff as you're crawling through it which is more than a little unnerving middle note to put hands in mouth don't put hands in mouth um rolling against everybody's
[01:07:11] mental defense what does everybody's mental defense look like a 13 you're good 13 you're good a 12 you're not good uh yeah you're crawling through poop you are going to take 10 psychic damage basically oh fuck oh okay that brings me down brings me down 20 i'm fine i hate this
[01:07:36] well it's it's cold it's damp it's dank it smells the poop is yeah the poop is not cold and damp the stone around you is and you hear something you hear a clicking sound on the other side of the
[01:07:59] walls and that's the unnerving part like you realize as you're crawling through this you know tunnel for lack of a better descriptive for it you're crawling through the tunnel but you know that there are creepy creepy skeletons just on the other side of that stone wall and the only thing that is keeping
[01:08:23] them from noticing you is that they are patrolling in an area and they are looking with their skeleton senses for the living that's why you're taking the psychic damage it's less about the poop and more about the undead that are just right fucking there yeah but at the same time you're avoiding them gary skeletons they send shippers down your spine yep and as you come out the other end of the chute
[01:08:53] uh adam what does your mental defense look like i was 13 oh for this one you're gonna take 14 psychic damage that's great down the 16th okay you've been in this room before oh you've seen this
[01:09:15] room you've walked that floor you've seen that beer but it keeps on giving but that particular beer before was empty and now it's not this time you see chained with her arms and legs spread as far as
[01:09:37] they can possibly be spread with the chains yanked as tight as they will go you see anna and standing over her is a man wearing golden armor scale mail with a gleaming white surcoat that has the emblem of the
[01:09:59] great golden worm on it and a shield sitting right next to the beer he's got a wicked looking dagger in his hand and he says i wouldn't take another step if i were you okay i am a uh a handsome devil i am i just kind of so i'm trying to be i guess what i'm saying is kind of charming
[01:10:26] and disarming oh come on i must like we we just crawled through human or some type of waste like i can't just kind of brushing the dust off looking disgusting so um trying to at least get everybody else in the room okay or so you're going to be sidestepping and just trying to keep his attention on you and allow you just work your way around the side of the room well i mean at least so
[01:10:53] ever i'm assuming it's like a smaller entrance like i was the first one in so i don't want them like choke got choked in the back so just set it out so it's a large chamber okay um you would say maybe a hundred feet across there's a good 40 feet between you and him because great big stone beer okay my apologies i wonder so we're all in there at the same time
[01:11:22] but you can go for a distraction if you'd like yeah i think i i think i will so i am going to try and see what else i got here sneak attack no so i lose my momentum don't i you do okay while i was checking uh yeah someone distract him trying to give it advantage to uh at least the
[01:11:48] rain the archer the ranger yeah to maybe you know stop that so would that be a charisma row we'll give you a charisma yes okay okay am i allowed to go ahead i guess i can't do it just yeah i was like wondering about that refresh row but i didn't say anything one d plus seven
[01:12:10] ten he's not buying it he is not so to be fair um tate comes out first or it comes out next so oh my well that was a shitty way to oh can tate distract him so that i can wait what you got tate
[01:12:39] well you're a bodyguard you know how to protect people take part of that it happens i don't want to distract well be more of a door than a window for me i am good at that i could just stand there you're a giant wall of meat i am a body blocker yeah what's not gonna help her not get stabbed to death
[01:13:04] well yeah this is just like well i'm i'm hoping that uh this might distract him enough for me to actually like set up like do an attack i think i have just the idea for this it's probably gonna fail well are you basically going to do the body block thing i don't know what else to do besides fucking rush him you know what i will give this to you um the words um because you're basically
[01:13:33] trying to make yourself into the biggest meatiest wall of meat that you can um give me body card plus constitution oh plus level plus level uh 18 total 18 will do it you can uh block your sister enough that she can get a shot in the meantime there's a bit of monologuing because he says
[01:14:02] because you know gotta do a little bit of a villain monologue give me a give me a chance here guys that he says you know if we'd waited until the stars were right and the moon was aligned this would have been a lot of power for the lich king but you accelerated the timetable and you forced my hand so that means that the dead that are gonna be rising that are gonna be destroying the city
[01:14:31] are not going to be as great in number but don't worry her life force is still gonna go to the stock and get as much power as he would have liked and you're still gonna get everlasting torment for it can i interrupt him absolutely in the face um god uh surprise solar beam cannon
[01:15:01] at the discord at his at his uh at his dagger hand okay i like that um i'm like i hate doing this because like that is not like a good like but i don't have a lot of modifiers on this one okay so here's the first question i gotta ask uh what stat or does it go against uh it is i think okay uh let me double check that hang on i'm pretty sure it's physical defense yeah pd so do you want
[01:15:31] the good news or do you want the bad news give me the bad news okay uh the bad news is you don't have the best modifiers to use no the good news is his physical defense is not as great as his armor class oh okay so there's a chance so there's a chance okay is there any way i could use i could i can add a
[01:15:58] background to this as well to beef it up or is this it is it is a spell so uh this is a spell okay uh hang on a second hang on first strike what does it do first time you attack an enemy during a battle you your crit range changes uh to uh or expands by two you know what i'll allow it okay i mean i don't know how i guess i guess that
[01:16:27] lowers his pd i guess maybe or or that would i don't know it increases the crit range on a spell so you'll if you hit you're gonna deal double damage okay all right guys wish me luck i guess i'm being a flashy with this one some prayers god rng gods please plus i don't have god i really
[01:16:54] have a plus two to this oh god why'd i do this for scorching ray uh an 18 and a base roll and a 20 you know what you hit him oh my god you did you're a hero now just keep doing good stuff yeah so so here's the first question i need to find out what does a critical hit actually do
[01:17:21] so let's find out shall we is it current if it's modified oh uh so so he uh got first strike yeah on his ranged attack uh the critical hit range is increased by two so that was a natural 18 which would in fact be a critical hit and um if the natural attack roll was even the target also
[01:17:47] takes 1d8 ongoing fire damage on top of the initial damage from the fire damage that i'm about to inflict so i do believe that a critical hit just straight up doubles the damage okay so i guess that would be like do i roll the day like the base damage like the the normal damage and then just multiply that by
[01:18:09] two or would it be like 2d6 plus charisma for fire damage let's see if the 20 sided die comes up on a 20 the attack is a crit and deals double damage okay so it uh deals the double damage uh what is the base damage for the roll uh the base damage um so let me just roll that then yeah we're gonna roll it and we're gonna multiply it by two okay what's my oh my charisma i hope that's my modifier oh no
[01:18:36] your charisma is like 10 or 11 my charisma is my the modifier is that with levels uh i do believe that it is with levels that is the and if it's not it's the way we've been doing it yeah okay so uh then that gives me a plus two on top of what i'm about to roll here so oh fuck i did it wrong damn it
[01:19:00] you roll a dice roll i i just i didn't put in the right um equation thing for it oh you're not rolling nice that's why okay wow i'll take that uh so i got a seven okay so that's gonna be 14 points damage directly to his hand yeah does he have a hand yeah he does fuck your hand it's very burned
[01:19:26] and somewhat skeletal but he now has a he's got a hand does the dagger drop yes cool chris just cast accidental heat metal yes tate now tate tackle tate use tackle it's super effective okay it's like
[01:19:51] what was it uh uh um uh caroline caroline used solar beam it's super effective tate now use tackle so so so to be fair uh i will take a wisdom roll from anybody and then we're gonna roll initiative yeah that's not fair well my wisdom sucks uh probably wait what is my wisdom uh it's 10
[01:20:17] plus three so basically you're making a wisdom based skill roll plus whatever background you feel fits um hard knock oh actually defender of the meek you know i'll give you defender of the meek yeah it's only a plus one but like i feel like i i i want to use like so my i want to vary out my uh my yeah
[01:20:39] okay so uh eight the five he doesn't seem to be feeling a whole hell of a lot of pain uh anybody else sure uh 21 okay so you're gonna see it um the hand that got burned off um the fact that it's a skeletal
[01:21:04] hand underneath doesn't seem to phase him and he's just pulling a he's picking up a rather wicked looking flail with the bone hand so peace coin is just a fleshy disguise over something something bony okay okay now it's time for initiative now it's time for initiative roll that beautiful
[01:21:31] boom footage that's how we roll how to roll initiative uh d20 plus dex plus do too good this time 16 just level yeah unless you have uh nope going last i got a 20 okay so let me just get myself a
[01:21:52] nice clean sheet here so that is a 20 for caroline uh what is it for tate five five five all right and for assy oh uh 16 josh rolled two okay so peace coin is going first uh so i misspoke uh that is not a
[01:22:19] flail he is picking up he's uh he's actually got a lovely lovely sword on his side but with his other hand he's going to grab a javelin and he is going to fling it at let's see do do do do do do assy it is uh what is your ac that was 13 or 15 15 okay so you are going to take 14
[01:22:47] damage wow i know i'm sorry you're going to take 10 damage okay well you won't get to keep it i'm keeping the javelin there's mine now okay to be fair you see that he's got more can i roll recovery at any time or it's that's beyond my turn you know that is a good question i'm gonna have to find that out recoveries i'm not sure if you can spend them in combat i think you have to be out of combat to
[01:23:16] spend unless you've got certain classes with you so we don't recoveries and recovery dice okay most characters start the game with eight recoveries see chapter five for how recoveries work we're learning we're learning we're learning we're learning we're learning we're learning and again thank you guys so much for at least or for helping me with
[01:23:45] this because i know these questions are definitely going to come up oh it's fine oh dude this is a blast i'm not gonna lie i love these characters so each pc normally starts the adventure with eight or nine recoveries a stat that represents their ability to heal or bounce back from damage many healing spells and healing potions require you to use up one of your recoveries so does a standard action to rally during a battle a few powerful true healing spells heal without requiring it
[01:24:13] the basic mechanic when you use recovery is always the same you regain lost hit points by rolling the dice uh equal to your level and adding your constitution modifier so you can uh use a standard action to rally so basically you can give up your action to heal okay and to basically burn one of your recoveries okay sounds fine i'll wait till my turn then appreciate you looking it up oh ain't no
[01:24:39] thing now i have to scroll all the way back and then go all the way back down to my villain stats which to be fair uh note to self print out villain stats on separate sheet yes so that i don't have to keep scrolling back up and scrolling back down and scrolling back up and okay so that was his action
[01:25:01] uh caroline um i guess oh that i had i already had the first yeah so first strike is already done um i guess i'm just gonna start throwing daggers all right um again now yeah the double the uh because i have that double uh range attack you have holy water too
[01:25:25] oh you're you're right yeah okay i'm not throwing a dagger i'm i'm gonna i'm gonna uh because i i did also notice that uh he wasn't didn't seem affected by the like or that is uh he had a skeletal hand that's mobile right mm-hmm okay yeah i'm going to the skeletal hand is it's still attached to his arm yeah like it's it wasn't just oh my hand is separate no it's your your birdie attack burned the flesh off of his hand
[01:25:53] yeah but he's still using that skeletal hand yes yeah um in that case yeah i'm going to um yeah i i grab instead of a dagger i pull out from my bag uh a uh one of the uh the vials of holy water and and just like lob it at him um just like try to smash it against him uh maybe like against his face or something to see if it uh does anything um beautiful give me your attack roll
[01:26:20] okay so this is a range attack this is a ranged attack um and is this do i still use the double range attack thing uh you can if you want to okay but it will take the damage down to a d4 instead of a d6 no i'm not going to do that i'm going to go for a single like shot attack kind of things
[01:26:42] that's better for this uh one d6 1d20 plus uh i'm think i'm just using my normal like just the decks so eight ah come on don't fuck me there we go um 15 15 is not enough your flask goes wide all right we're down to four guys um okay unless unless that unless that vial did not break
[01:27:11] but oh it broke yeah it's out of reach yet uh so we're down to four yeah tate uh tate is last initiative he is yeah oh wait that means or assy did not go i'm sorry i just i healed 19 points so i'm
[01:27:30] 29 i just i rowed beautiful now tight now tate now tate now tate okay yeah smash i was told tackle oh no how wide did that vial of holy water go though um fairly wide yeah damn it you were close to tackle and throw him down onto it yes that was gonna be the idea you know what
[01:27:59] i'll give that to you um make um give me a rassle roll josh josh josh josh josh your background's a bodyguard you know how to take people down get the bus i would use roadhouse okay roadhouse that bitch oh man everybody's like mr president get
[01:28:23] down mr paladin get down be nice you don't have to you know all right so i just assume this is going to be strength roadhouse and level yeah i'll give that to you roll that beautiful bean footage something good something good something good please this is the role to be something good
[01:28:46] fuck you and your seven four pain don't hurt nine sixteen so you are over the physical defense and so you've got him oh you deal zero damage in it but um what's your mental defense 13 no okay you're safe because i rolled a three on this but um if i may describe what you are grabbing for just a moment
[01:29:15] um i want you to imagine for a moment that you were grabbing a a garbage bag that is made out of layered scale mail that is wrapped around rotted meat and a a broomstick skeleton inside you've got your
[01:29:40] arms around him and uh you got him next turn you can move him to wherever you want to like you can power slam him onto that spilled water next turn yark in the immortal words of earnest in the meantime though uh he's got a sword and he does not look very impressed
[01:30:09] so that takes us to top of the round which is beast coin what's your ac 16 yeah you're going to take 10 damage i'm fine yeah no i'm sorry you're going to take 14 damage gotta get the right number josh josh josh josh reiki braising it if you keep talking about it keep talking shit josh well to be fair he's got a certain set of abilities i will tell you after
[01:30:37] recording so that you know what what you actually up against um but that's what he do uh chris what you doing well um let's let's let's just uh double down here and uh to uh have another have a vial of holy water you hit tate fuck hey at least maybe maybe
[01:31:03] it'll help tate yeah it's possible i'll power slam him over my back so we have rolls through it first yeah uh man so roll one d 20 not a natural just normal like just uh like all modifiers added on so again do you want to know the good news or the bad news bad news my 20 is not gonna hit
[01:31:27] damn my 21 on the other hand will we somebody forget the escalation die i forgot the escalation die yeah or is it die or like just escalation point or well right now it is at a one okay because this is i forgot it clear so it was actually 17 well well you did your tackle in the first round yeah that yeah you're yeah you're oh yeah yeah this is second round top of the second round uh so it is at a one
[01:31:55] okay so 21 so 21 will hit uh roll a d6 and add your decks oh okay uh one oh no what no uh one sorry what was it 1d6 plus 1d6 plus your decks with level with level okay is it always with level i guess or i that's the way we've been doing it i am going to double check the rules at the end i'm sure
[01:32:20] that somebody is going to correct me if i am wrong it will show up in the comments on whichever site no table flip he didn't do this right uh uh that's the way we've been doing it yeah that's fair yeah
[01:32:38] i mean yeah uh 11 for that all right so with a splash and a crack the holy water connects with the airsat's paladin's face and the skin slows off to reveal a grinning skull directly beneath it's the
[01:33:02] red skull no more like the bony white skull there's two little pinpoints of light in the empty eye sockets and peace coin is staring with malevolence your skull at caroline yeah uh yeah i see okay i am remember at home i'm allowed to do it well i can do sneak attack anyway
[01:33:28] he's engaged with somebody else oh yeah i'm just trying to see cruel once per battle don't miss i sneak attack take okay i'm just trying to see what i can do here so i guess i am going to can i see the glowing eyes well you can definitely see the skeletal head and hand
[01:33:56] watching you well i'm gonna try i'm gonna i'm gonna try to pop that skeletal head with uh an arrow so i'm going for the face okay are you going for an arrow because you don't get sneak attack on an arrow do you want your sneak attack or do you will not want your sneak attack i want my sneak attack i'll do the sword then sword it is so i'm going for honestly i'm going to hopefully see what i can do here
[01:34:25] row one it's just gonna be the the scene from uh shaven did having a good time having a good time i'm i'm adding my escalation die so it's plus one right correct so 23 that's gonna hit okay that's the sneak attack oh wait that's also enhanced sneak attack so that's d8 and what else is
[01:34:50] that real quick sneak attack once per turn yeah enhances one d8 yes it is an act so basically you get a d8 from the weapon a d8 from the sneak attack plus your dex so 2d8 plus dex plus modifier so it would be escalation die does that affect that too or not uh it will 18 how's that do his face damn well it
[01:35:19] definitely hurts him it doesn't hurt as much as you expected that it would though because there is a factor involved here that you are not aware of boo-woo uh tate what you doing uh i am now gonna body slam him into that puddle from the first time all right so for this one i would like for you to make
[01:35:41] your so we're gonna call this a melee attack roll fair enough fuck is it a good or bad that's a bad fuck uh can i add roadhouse to this i know this is an attack all right so strength level escalation
[01:36:05] 10 total i rolled a fucking two oh oh i can i can attack again yeah you did take that you did take that and but that's i will well you missed and you rolled a natural two your weapons of choice are two-handed weapons and to be fair um let me let me just i'm gonna rule on it here um give me one
[01:36:34] moment to look through my classes there is no monk so fighter doing an unarmed i will give it to you that's the first time that you've rolled a natural two so roll again for the miss yes all right and because i missed no i don't get two weapon pressure because i'm not using two weapons never mind
[01:36:55] so still just straight roll 16 on the die 16 on the die yes plus all right fucking like nine or eight eight 24 total that'll do it um roll a d6 and you get to add your strength plus escalation
[01:37:22] well fuck you die oh no that's a one on the die uh for damage yeah but strike plus escalation brings it up to a six total okay so you pick him up and you just body slam him which is not hard because he's to be fair mostly he's a skin sack stretched over a skeleton so you throw him down
[01:37:47] onto the holy water and as his body hits you hear a splash and there's viscera and goo and ichor and all sorts of nastiness that pours out but now you see that you're fighting against a skeleton in armor uh the holy water that is on the ground is no longer usable but that's the moment where he goes
[01:38:10] that was rude climbs back up to his feet with a nimbleness that you would not expect from a skeleton oh fuck me and basically his body turns around as he stands up so that he's putting shoulders square against you in a herky-jerky harryhausen fashion and you are going to take 22 points of damage
[01:38:36] all right and your initiative is going to drop by two points i'm still in the same spot doesn't matter yeah that has to be mentioned because come on villain's got a cool ability i gotta at least tell you what it is oh absolutely also he has now dropped me below half health oh boy just yeah
[01:38:58] half is 42 i'm at 40 escalation die is now at a two yeah and caroline what you doing well it's been working for us so um they're all loving another uh holy water vial that is uh at the hope maybe it'll affect the skeleton let's get that roll so that's gonna be so we're now in the third round right for escalation we are so escalation is at a two so it would guess first round has no escalation but
[01:39:28] this is two because we are in round three yes so my eight would then be my my eight modifier would then be a 10 correct okay just double checking 27 damn all right lob that shit into so his eyes his eye sockets were still glowing yes can i say that i like lobbed it like directly into one of his eye
[01:39:50] sockets i'll give it that to you uh roll the damage that's going to be d6 plus your dex modifier okay plus escalation d6 uh 10 okay 14 so you hit him directly in this skull this is after he has brought the sword down on tate and as he is raising the sword and preparing or just shaking tate's blood off of it
[01:40:19] and preparing for his next strike you hit him square in the face directly into the eye socket with the vial and his skull explodes and the bones just fall apart falling to pieces across the ground just scattering don't fall to pieces yeah yeah that's actually the screams for annas oh god anna no
[01:40:49] uh yeah i see you're going to take six points of damage as the uh mark on your arm starts burning or the remaining poor holy water on my arm i i do have uh that was i have two more vials of holy water uh i i uh as i see um uh as i see uh assy um uh
[01:41:15] grimacing in pain i like run over like oh shit shit like pop the corks on the vials and just start like by like like uh pouring them onto your onto the wound and like just like come on doesn't seem to be doing a whole hell of a lot but it is at least it feels like it's putting some of the fire out but that the skin is starting to bubble in that spot and it's decidedly unpleasant meanwhile
[01:41:43] you hear and a cheney sound as chate is trying to rattle against stone tate go deal with that okay oh you can get her free himbo himbo to the rescue you know what i will give you that one if you want to roll himbo of course i want to roll himbo it's the funniest thing it's the best thing
[01:42:11] uh so roll himbo plus strength uh plus level yes 18 total all right so important style question here from me um are you yanking the chains out of the stone or are you just picking up the entire stone and dragging her over to the party
[01:42:39] oh god i would i might drag the stone over so just bring her with her so we're going with the stone as opposed to yanking the chains out yep okay all right she's over here yes it's like well that's great really what pull the chains out of the rock don't bring the rock that's oh that's extra weight
[01:43:05] bare hands just pull it out um that's going to be another himbo roll meanwhile uh charoline give me a notice roll um some kind of wisdom based i will take survivor of distant massacre oh good okay uh that's a wisdom roll okay um 20 plus on himbo okay so you can easily get the
[01:43:31] chains free and as soon as you get the first couple of chains loose on my my perception i nothing bad's happening it's fine i'm too preoccupied with um everything is awesome like watching as soon as she's got a hand free she pulls the gag out of her mouth and she says i can help and puts her hand
[01:43:52] over the hand over the hand print and as she does so the pain stops okay um what are you man an angel she says i don't know but peace coin said i had a power okay well um we should probably go uh and get
[01:44:16] you out of here she points to where the beer was the the stone slab that she was chained to and there is this swirling blue vortex of just energy pouring up from the ground she says perhaps we should quickly leave quick through the poop chute i throw everyone on my back and run
[01:44:42] which way are you running josh front door poop chute poop chute okay you're you're gonna have to crawl as fast as you possibly can to get out that way oh god not a problem i take it you want to roll i do i can it be himbo again it's gonna be i'll allow him though because this is like very himbo thing
[01:45:03] you're doing it has to be himbo yeah well that's a 19 on the die nice okay so nine just to just to set the scene for my brain i just went back to the episode of the yes and now today we're reviewing the bodyguard 2 with the three tenors so picturing kevin costar running while carrying three overweight
[01:45:34] uh uh fucking day man no is uh is that for the bodyguard like uh the yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah sorry pardon did it better though don't at me she's national treasure yeah she's national treasure even up here in the in the great white north that she is but
[01:45:58] you are going to escape uh you are going to make it out of the keep just in time to see the entire thing just disappear into the earth in this swirling vortex of blue and dark and evil oh so the uh poltergeist for uh the poltergeist tending indeed but you escaped it okay and that's when assy gets to
[01:46:25] hear inside his head i warned you la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la la and that's where we're gonna end um the epilogue you are able to get back to the temple or you're able able to get back to the city relatively easy um you find out that um weirdly the undead attacks have stopped. We have
[01:46:52] no idea where Fire Goodman ended up. Oh, yeah. That guy. But you're pretty sure you know what happened to PeaceCoin. Yeah. What? Hambo don't know. We'll tell you later, Tate. Oh, he fell to pieces. Wow. That's what that other guy did, too. Wow. Yes.
[01:47:21] And so, once again, the day is saved. Congratulations. That is the adventure. So, questions, comments, suggestions? I really liked it. Oh, my God. This is fucking awesome. I had a blast. I mean, I think for a con game, I think we were the problems. If it drug out a little longer than everything else said, but...
[01:47:50] Well, to be fair, I am checking the time on ZeKreg. And at the moment, we are clocked in at about five hours. So, that is just about right for a con game. I was shooting for six. We managed it in five. So, yay. To be fair, there would have been a few more skeleton encounters on the way in, but you guys found the secret tunnel.
[01:48:20] Went through the poop chute. Secret tunnel! Secret tunnel! Sorry. Yeah, I think like, this is also, like, our experience is also to be, is also kind of similar to a con game, like, in practice as well. Because, like, I think Adam's the only one here, like, outside of a few, David, that, like, has actually played 13th Age. Like, I've never played it. Like, I'm... And Josh has never played it. So, it's like this... You were...
[01:48:49] You were basically going through the ringer of, like, of helping two very new, very fresh players. And to be fair, not only was... This is the first time that I have run 13th Age. So, I had a small cheat sheet of things that I was doing and trying to fly by the seat of my pants. Well, it definitely, like, you had... You definitely gave off a confidence that betrayed...
[01:49:20] That... Maybe not betrayed is the right word, but, like, it hid the fact that you had never run it before. Well, thank you. And... And I tried not to make it too railroady. Tried to make it to where you had different options. To be fair, had you gone to the... Had you gone to the keep to the north, instead of having to fight your way through kobolds, you would have... Or, instead of fighting your way through skeletons and undead, you would have had to fight your way
[01:49:49] through kobolds. And you would have found out that Father Goodman was actually in the thrall of the trio. Oh, yeah, okay. Like, the... Yeah. And you would have found the corpse of Peace Coin up there. Oh, okay, cool. And so, depending on which adventure you guys chose, was who was going to be the villain. To be fair, since...
[01:50:19] Since Adam had the Lich King as one of his influences, if he had rolled a five or a six on his Commune with Lich King role, he got the attention of the Lich King and got to have that lovely dream sequence. Had somebody had either the... To be fair, if somebody had had the Orc Lord or if somebody had had the trio, there would have been a different dream. Yeah. But,
[01:50:49] depending on which way your investigation went, I was planning to yes and. And, yeah, of course that's the villain. Had you somehow decided on the Orc Lord, you would have found out that it was actually Peace Coin's bodyguard who was the bad guy. Ah. Oh, so that... Okay. Yeah. So that lovely half-orc that has been following him around the entire time. You know, the one wearing the white outfit and the turban, the really, really tall one. Yeah, that guy.
[01:51:19] That guy would have been the villain. So, no matter what, there was going to be a villain tied to one of the evil icons. Because, to be fair, Anna is just too good for this world. Yes. She is too pure. Yeah, I like that. Yeah. Yeah, like, behind the scenes, like, in terms of, like, like, GMing, like, I think that's, like, the perfect way to do it, especially for a con game, is, like, you have a set goal and, like, give that illusion
[01:51:49] of, like, I mean, like, the players are destined to find, or to try and, to, to find, reach, reach the area, the point where you have to rescue Anna. It's just, you've also given us the, the option of choosing the form of our destructor, or, of our, or, of our, of her destructor, or of our, like, doom, or, or, the thing that we have to overcome. Yeah. And to be fair, skeletons are relatively weak. They have a low amount of hit points.
[01:52:20] But, skeletons all have the same resistance. Resist weapons, 16 plus. When a weapon attack targets this creature, the attacker must roll a natural 16 or higher on the attack roll, or it only does half damage. So, there was a roll where Adam only hit a 15, even on his sneak attack, and he wasn't able to get through. However, they are all vulnerable to holy. So, stopping to get the holy water, and to be fair, we did have to
[01:52:50] hand wave it to make it work. But, flasks of holy water, I feel like that's a D6. But, it automatically does the damage if it hits, just because, you know what, fuck it, they're vulnerable to it. Yeah. And so, the leader, whichever one you went for, was going to be a level 4 troop. In this case, Peace Coin is actually a Black Amber Skeletal Legionnaire. So,
[01:53:19] his damage is a Short Sword. He gets a plus 10 on that, and deals 14 damage to a target as his natural roll. If he rolls a 16 or higher, the target moves down 1d3 points on initiative to a minimum value of 1. His initiative roll was a plus 10, and on natural even misses, he did 5 damage. The Javelin was plus 8 versus AC and did 10 damage. Wow. And it has the ability
[01:53:49] of press advantage. It deals plus 1d8 damage with its attacks against enemies that have a lower initiative than it. So, there was a reason why when it did hit Tate, it hit like a ton of bricks. Yeah. The upside of it was that I rolled a crit. The downside is the d8 only rolled a 1. So, it could have been a lot worse than that. It would have been a strike where it's like, Jesus, what the fuck just hit me.
[01:54:20] Well, it still very much was. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I went from 62 to 40. I do also like that, because these are going to be the pregens, right? Yes. I think we actually made like basically a really, a well-balanced like in terms of like World of Warcraft MMO kind of thing, like a balanced like party for this kind of thing, because we've got like the tank. Uh-huh. The fucking tank.
[01:54:50] You've got a ranged and you've got a melee DPS. Yeah, exactly. And yeah, and even out of combat, we also have, we also have a character, like each of our characters bring something to the table for like, um, for, uh, for different like, kind of like social and even investigative situations. Yeah. Now I would like to alter Adam just a little bit. Um, I'm going to alter Assy, that is. Um, we're going to bump Hard Knock Life down to two
[01:55:19] and we're going to put in a different background at a two because I would like to see some more versatility. So just one minor little thing that I would throw in there. Also, uh, I am just a little bit disappointed that you guys missed the other thing, which is you realize that Hard Knock Life was a shared background, right? Uh, I mean, we all had it. Yeah. Uh-huh. Yeah.
[01:55:48] So one of the things that I put in as kind of my own Easter egg and I hinted at it a little bit, but I think I might need to hint at it a little bit harder is the fact that you all grew up in an orphanage. You all grew up singing the same songs. So as long as you are working together and doing a thing, it's a Hard Knock Life for us. We could have used fucking Hard Knock Life. Uh-huh. You could have
[01:56:17] chained it together. Oh, like, so like, so like, so you mean like we've got like stacked everything, everybody together? If Adam says I'm going to use Hard Knock Life, that means he gets a bonus of two points for Hard Knock Life. Yeah. Because I'm going to bump it down to a two. And then he gets an additional bonus based on whatever the stat is that he's using and then whatever his level is. So that's going to be a grand total of five plus stat plus an additional one for each
[01:56:46] additional orphan helping. So if you had all three done the same thing together at once using Hard Knock Life, it would have been a nice bonus. Especially near that, like in that last fight where, because we were all kind of working in tandem in that part too. Or even like literally one attack where I was holding it. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. No, I like that. I think you definitely should like hint at that somehow. To be fair, I feel like emphasizing the song
[01:57:16] a little bit more when the kids are cleaning up. Yeah. We'll probably do it. Yeah. But maybe, maybe include like when they're as they're doing it and like if the characters obviously they're observing it in some capacity, like maybe have them like remember like their, their time here, like doing the same kind of thing and how like the song like used to used to help the help the work go faster or something like that. Yeah. Oh, yeah. You did see
[01:57:45] that actually, right? Yeah. Also, you did, you did absolutely like hint at that because like you mentioned like the, a bunch of the kids working and like doing that, like kind of doing a song thing and like many, many hands make the, the work go faster. Yeah. Damn it. Yeah. I'm kind of mad at myself because that was a musical I worked in last year. And I, also,
[01:58:16] I would like to, um, ask a couple of questions. Did, uh, did Mr. Harrigan seem like a solid red herring for villain? Like, um, somewhat antagonistic to you guys because you never made anything out of yourselves. With that regard, yes. But like the, the way you were describing him after of like kind of being like, yeah, he's, he's a bit of a, like a, uh, a strict, a strickler, but,
[01:58:45] and like by the book kind of guy, but like he, you were making him out to also like you show him like be kind of understandable why like he, he does take care of the kids and stuff like that and all that kind of thing. So it kind of like warmed, like my initial reaction was how I reacted was like, oh, great. Like it's, it's this guy. Um, but then like, as you were bringing it up, like the things that he does for the orphans and stuff, I was like, oh, he's not a bad guy, that bad of a guy. He's just really by the book. You are a bad guy, but that doesn't mean you are a bad guy. Well,
[01:59:15] not even like that. Like, it's like, um, he's a hard ass, but he's not, um, yeah, he's not as evil. Yeah. So like, I, I never really kind of, I initially when you brought him up, I, I thought like he might be tied to this, but then like, as you went on, it was like, I, I honestly kind of didn't even like, I, I took him off my, uh, my, my, my, my suspicion list. So. Yeah. He's just the principal of the school that you hate. And it's like, whatever. Yeah. Like I literally like pictured him as Strickland, uh,
[01:59:45] Mr. Strickland from, uh, from back to the future, just with, with pointy ears. Um, he's been here how many years? Well, it wasn't he, he's been there since the start of the orphanage, right? Or more or less like, um, I need to look up elven ages to be fair. He's, he's old enough that he should probably just be in the retirement section. I do. Yeah. Sorry.
[02:00:15] Yeah. Sorry. That is a change that is 100% going in because that was a lovely non sequitur of yep. We're the old folks up. Wait, it's an orphanage. It's like, no, now it's both. I also think that, yeah, like there should definitely be a character who's just like, they're being, they're, they're, they're actually being Benjamin buttoned. That's their unique thing. I, I kind of like that. Reverse. I guess I have them. That's the change to assie. No, no, Wild magic.
[02:00:45] No, assie is staying exactly as assie is because I like the, the, I see dead people is very important for storyline here. Um, so assie is keeping that. Um, I am sad. My, my, my wear squirrel, uh, tree did not kick in, but it's fine. Blame your damn rolls. Yeah. That one, that D8 roll made a difference because if it had, uh, if it had landed on one or if it had landed on eight,
[02:01:16] um, it would have been a full moon. Yeah. And so you would have had to go squirrel and that would have been fun for me. Um, I will say that on the one hand Tate is extremely one dimensional. I feel like at this point I need to bump his intelligence down to an eight because yeah, Tate is not the smartest. I mean, to be fair, my intelligence is an eight. Well, I mean, you at least have the, uh,
[02:01:45] backgrounds for it. Yeah. Really does. Yeah. Like a lot of investigation. I actually had you sit there because of the aspects. I just couldn't do anything with them. Or just as much as I love him. That might just be a fault on my part for not being able to bullshit my way through it. But, well, that is part of it. Um, I feel like that comes with practice. Um, one of the things about being a veteran gamer is that you do eventually learn how to bullshit and this system is built around it. Like, um,
[02:02:15] if I can give some examples from when I played in 13th age, um, one of the things I learned in bard school that came up, um, we had a target that was trying to get away from us by swimming out into the water. And so my weapon of choice is crossbow, light crossbow. I grabbed the rope from the dock and I jammed one of my crossbow bolts through the rope and then loaded up and it's like, how exactly are you going to make man
[02:02:44] harpooning be a thing that you learned in bard school? And it's like, that kind of feels like an extracurricular. And I'd said, you know, I actually feel like this is going to be flinting the skill because it's, we're doing combat in such a way that it is just combat with a flare because nobody would ever expect this to actually work in real life. This is the sort of thing that you see in bad stage plays, right? But because the other party members jumped
[02:03:14] on man harpooning, obviously it was one of those things you learned in bard school. So I'm like, you know what? Fuck it. I'm going to go with it. But that's kind of the way that it is. If you can bullshit well enough to lie your way into the role, if you can make a credible example of it, there you go. So I would have, there's a lot of times when the bodyguard would have come in a little bit
[02:03:44] better. what I recommend as a change for Tate when we're statting him up for the one shot, I'm going to bump his intelligence down by two in order to bump his charisma up by two. Yeah. Yeah. Because I think that we can do that because he is a very charismatic, but very dumb guy. Yeah. But that's why I fucking love him. He's, he definitely fits in. it's like, this is the big dumb elf, but he is also, he's very good at what he does,
[02:04:13] which is muscly things. Between the roadhouse, between bodyguard, and between himbo, there were a bunch of different times when you could have said, hmm, I'm going to use my himbo powers to talk to people. Perhaps I can talk to the gnomish priestess. Hey, maybe I can. Maybe I can help her out if I pick her up so that she can reach the
[02:04:43] candles that she has to use stilts to get to. Anytime that there is a solid feat of strength, you could have stepped in and just kind of gone, hey, why don't I use himbo? Yeah. Well, yeah, yeah, because we did some of that with like, it's like, Tate, I need a lift up onto the tree. Tate, I need this barricade moved way into the forest. Yeet. Yeah. And so, I feel like he's a very
[02:05:13] nice, very well-balanced character. He is going to be fun for somebody. He is. But, I also would like to point out that 40, 43, 37, 24. Not to put too fine a point on it, but the three of us have been gaming in some form or fashion for 20 years apiece, sometimes 30 years apiece. So, we've got our experience in how
[02:05:43] to bullshit down. Yeah. So, just bear that in mind. Don't look at it as a case of, oh, man, that's so many missed opportunities. File those away for next time. And this is not going to be the last time that I run 13th age. I kind of feel like I want to do this again. I would love to play this character again. Fuck it. I'd love to be Tate again. That was fucking awesome. I will compliment you again, David.
[02:06:13] You have made me really interested in 13th age. So, the Kickstarter is still going. Damn it. I can't. I am getting the Dead Tree versions because I want these books. They look so very lovely, but the PDF is still extremely good for first edition. I love
[02:06:42] that this is a PDF that I can just scroll back to the table of contents and just click to go. And it's great. I want to play around with some of the other characters more. And next time I would like to give more of a chance. Basically, what I was going to do, the reason why I made everybody play elves in the first place was I was going to have the elf queen reach out to all of you in a vision
[02:07:14] as a case of well, we don't know where to go. We're absolutely stuck. That was my saving grace. You were going to have a shared vision where you just get dreamt to the elven queen where she's going to say, yes, one of my children is missing. You are her siblings. This is where she is. Like the elven queen was my clue bat of go here. I also really like the orphan connection
[02:07:45] to our characters. It gives us a glue to each other. It's an easier kind of glue than a tighter glue than a has an exclamation point over his head, which means he clearly has a quest. Yeah. This one felt more like that movie, like what four brothers with
[02:08:14] Marky Mark Wahlberg. Yeah. Yeah. And like where they're all like a bunch of like, I guess adopted like brothers, but like and like they work together and they have that connection. So that familial connection and stuff of that like years later. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's all I got to say about that. It's one of my favorite tropes. It's why are the orphans all banding together? Because they don't have parents, you know,
[02:08:45] adventures with, let's be absolutely clear here. If you've got a well-adjusted home life, you're not going to be going into the dungeon and fighting the orcs to get their settee. Yeah. You know, yeah. So I Shazam movie too in that way. Like, no, not the Sinbad one, but I mean the Shazam, like Shazam and like that, the DC movies, because like that's kind of the premise as well with that is like
[02:09:15] they're all a bunch of adopted or orphaned kids in this halfway home kind of thing and they realize that they're family like that in the movies. I feel like I am going to name the barbarian Din Viesel. Yes. Din Viesel. Adam, you were trying to say something and we kept talking over you. I can't remember. It's almost 4 a.m. Yeah. This is fair.
[02:09:45] And thank you guys all so much for staying up so late, man. It's been a blast. Yeah, this was like, yeah, this is all right. So well, thank you for running David. All right. I guess my next up I'm next up. Hi, I'm Crazon or Review Cultist or Chris. I am playing Caroline Ensis, a wood elf ranger with it with a an affinity for squirrels
[02:10:13] and daggers. so yeah, I think you are actually and then I guess we do an outro for the okay. Okay.
