RPX Rollup - Episode 37 - Orbital Blues2s

[00:00:24] Hello, welcome to The Roleplaying Exchange Podcast This is Adam and today we are going to do a roll up for SoMuppets Orbital Blues. And joining me today is my co-host. I'm a co-host now. Awesome. Hi, I'm Nick. You might have heard me run some Red Markets games or Delta Green games on here. Adam was looking for some people to take a look at Orbital Blues. So I thought, hey, jump in and jump in.

[00:00:49] See what this game's about. Awesome. Glad to have you here. When I mentioned this to you, was this the first time you'd ever heard of Orbital Blues or did this cross your periphery before? This is the first time I've heard of it. You mentioned it. I mean, I've heard of games that are sort of like a, you know, space western, not the specific game Orbital Blues.

[00:01:11] I think my big moment of finding out about this was, I had a couple of Gen Cons to go. Joe from, you know, RPX here picked up a copy of it and I saw it. I just saw it in his hands and it was, you know, kind of introduced to me as a space western cowboy bebop kind of thing.

[00:01:30] And I like all those words in that order. So, you know, eventually I did end up picking up a copy of it and back, they had a Kickstarter for some supplemental stuff for Orbital Blues, like campaigns and whatnot. And I ended up backing it and it had a really cool, I know I'm getting sidetracked right out the gate on this, but that particular Kickstarter, since it's this whole retro future aesthetic that they're going for.

[00:01:57] They had little Zion-like booklets of scenarios and they put them inside of a VHS cassette case. Did you ever see the black VHS cases that just like snapped around the cassette? Yes, yes. I might be one of the more younger members, but I've been around VHS. Sorry about that. I spent my time with high school kids in my day job. I've had to explain stuff.

[00:02:28] But it even had that like smell to it that you remember from that. It was really cool. So yeah, I'm glad we have an opportunity to go into this here. So as I'm mentioning before, Orbital Blues is, it's a retro futuristic galaxy where you're going to be playing broke, weary, tired outlaws that are just scraping by.

[00:02:51] Yeah. So, you know, as we go through this here, we're going to, I'm taking a lot of inspiration from Cowboy Bebop. I did enjoy that series and I'm sure you can kind of put Firefly, even though it wasn't retro and whatnot. So just know that as we're doing this, I see cigarette smoke floating through our spaceship and there's slow smoky jazz playing.

[00:03:14] Yeah. I think they actually, we're skipping ahead a bit, but they actually recommend assigning like a song to your character itself. So like in tragic or heroic or, you know, just big, big scenes, you could just imagine having that song playing in the background as your character does what they do. Mm-hmm. And it's a, it seems like it is a very pretty like rules-like kind of system.

[00:03:43] There's like really only going to be three core stats that we're going to be messing with today. So, you know, there's art sites and whatnot, but this should be kind of a quick row up for us to piece some things together. And I think we're going to try something new this go around. Nick, would you care to explain what, what we're going to, how we're going to be doing this character creation process? Yes. You suggested it. Well, yeah. So when I opened up the document, there was a nice, you know, the nice cover and everything.

[00:04:11] And then the second page is a giant D100 table. And then I scrolled to the third page where there is two more tables. And that's just for randomly rolling your starting location. This document has a lot of rolling tables in case you want to leave your character creation and other background up to fate. So since it is a little, little rules light and there isn't as much clunky mechanics to get into, I was like, oh, let's create our own characters how we would want.

[00:04:41] And then let's just have a randomly rolled third character that our people would have to deal with as a, as a crew member. Maybe they come out really good or maybe they're just dead weight. We pull on. We'll see. And if, you know, Lord willing, one of these days, I, I've always wanted to run this. Of course, I've always wanted to run all these roll ups that we've done here. Maybe we could actually put these characters to work.

[00:05:01] And for any of the many RPX members that didn't show up for this roll up, we'll pawn them off on our, I'm sure, beautiful little baby boy or girl that we roll up here later on. One of the first things I like to kind of do in these roll ups is before I jump in, we jump into the actual character creation process, which we are the, you know, our roll ups are the session zero for the game that never happened.

[00:05:24] I like to talk about the artwork on it. And since I own the tangible book here, I can tell you all that it's, it's, it's a great quality book. So I'm up at this, this is a second property, separate property of theirs that I own here. They skip no corners on making a very sturdy, beautiful book with great page quality and whatnot. A lot of colors in it, quite a bit of artwork in it.

[00:05:50] And you do have an observation on the artwork here, but to kind of, before we jump into that, I would like to mention that I think it's on page six in the book, not in the PDF. If you're looking, following along and you're handling with us, the era of orbital blues, as I mentioned before, it's kind of a retro futureistic thing. This is straight from the book here, but the, this text says when it comes to describing your world and bringing it to the life,

[00:06:17] it's important to remember that the world of orbital blues is anachronic, conspicuously belongs to an earlier period than you might expect. So despite being a universe with interplanetary travel, data networks, and personal spaceships, the frontier galaxy of orbital blues portrays a personal, portrays partially styles itself of the mid, late 20th century.

[00:06:44] Ascetics from freighted 1950s golden era of capitalism looks to landscapes of the early 90s and the closing of the decade of greed, when the glossy paintwork in the late stage capitalism began to chip away. Though these decades have an exciting look and feel, remember that they were times of great social economic inequality,

[00:07:07] injustice for women, people of color, LGBTQ people, and people living with disabilities among them. Like in the real world, social systems in the world of orbital blues have failed vulnerable people. Safety, money, and power have been taken away from these people and stockpiled by small political and economic minority of capitalist elites.

[00:07:30] Your characters have fallen out with this way of life if they were ever in it at all and have chosen to live their life as interstellar outlaws. So, kind of the feel of what we're going for here. And, kind of going back to the artwork, what did you notice about their artwork selections in this book? Like Adam just read in their description, they really wanted to pin down the mid-1900s kind of feel.

[00:07:58] But, looking at most of the pictures, they have a couple of pictures of the spacecraft and some scenes of the spacecraft being built, or maybe sort of like a more urban setting. But, like, most of the photos are, like, literally from, like, the 1950s, or just scenes of people in, like, ponchos and all that stuff.

[00:08:21] And I was like, I get the feeling that you want it to be 1960s, but I feel like if you've developed not only, like, interplanetary travel, but interstellar travel, I feel like there's got to be some increase in the level of technology, slightly. Completely. Yeah. Like, people are, like, rags and ponchos, and there's, like, the scenes of them in, like, cars and the traditional diner and everything, paper plastered everywhere.

[00:08:47] And it's like, I don't see a single monitor, I don't see a single screen, I don't see a single, like, any piece of electronics at all. I was like, I was like, but it's not a big deal. It was just a funny thing. I was like, hey, this is the future. And I'm looking at the photos, and it's, like, literally, it seems like I'm in the 1950s. You know, maybe in our game that we would run, maybe we could actually juxtapose that against, like, when you start going up against the elites, like, it's a Jetson-style future. You know what I mean?

[00:09:17] So, we're on the outskirts, and then once you get into the inner galaxy and you start encountering stuff, I mean, there's a lot of room here. You could be on the edge of a new colony. Like, there's ways to explain it. I just found it funny that it was like, oh, yeah, interstellar stuff, space cowboys, and it's just, like, empty desert. Diner. I was like, oh, okay. And then once I finally scrolled into the tech and stuff like that, I was like, oh, there we go. There's the technology I was thinking I would see sooner.

[00:09:47] One of the things before we begin this, and I would like to ask you to do the honors, if you can use the Dice Spot or you can roll your own dice here. As soon as you open this book, folks, there's a row table right there. Like, it's actually, I think, on the inside of the book, if I'm not mistaken. There's cover, open up, and then there's the galactic generator. So, it's like we... I think on the next page, it gives a little blurb about how to use these first few tables. Okay.

[00:10:17] Yeah. Let's see. Or something like that. Yeah. Location name. Okay. So, this would be page three of the PDF. It's unnumbered in the actual book here. It looks like we are going to be rowing. For local name, row one of the following. Location name prefix. Location name suffix. Surname. Location name suffix. And then row exports economy and population.

[00:10:43] So, I don't even have this on the character sheet. So, I'm going to go ahead and I'll get us open a Google Doc so we can kind of throw some of this stuff in here. If you look in the top right most corner next to the actual title, Orbital Blues, it's like PCM, KR number, sector, alias. Oh. Maybe it's supposed to go in the sector section? So, let's see. Is that form fillable? Let me check my PDF. It is for me. Oh, you know what?

[00:11:14] I guarantee it is for me. Yeah. Thank you. I am closing out a Google Docs as we speak, sir. So, looks like we are going to be rowing a D100 for location name prefix. So, would you care to do the honors on that? I'll pick up the next one. Good strong 96. We are in Cortez. Okay. Cortez.

[00:11:44] And I am going to go over. I'm going to row 66. And let's see what I end up with. I didn't even notice that it said 66 and 36 on the tops of these tables. I was like, it was a 36-sided die. Yeah. All right. So, 16. So, it looks like location name. We're in Cortez and we're at Prospect. Awesome.

[00:12:14] Okay. And if you care, do you care to take us on home with 5D6 for, what is it 5D6? Yeah. No, 3D6. 3D6 for a suffix name too. I don't know where the surname is from. Like, I don't know if there's a surname table. Surname table. Sorry. Yeah. So, I guess we can just make that up. Yeah. Or maybe it's on another page. But, I mean, I like the idea that we had to create our place before we do anything else. So, I got 5.

[00:12:43] So, rest. So, something's rest. Yeah. I'm going to quietly add all this stuff into the character sheet. Do you want to use the name generator on page 13 of the document for the surname? By all means. Unless you wanted to actually pick something with this one and then do completely random with the other one. I'm fine.

[00:13:09] Well, if we go with the table, it's we are on Cortez Prospect Red's Rest. All right. Maybe Red got killed here. All right. So, now that we've got that beautiful bit of work out of the way here, I think we're going to go ahead and jump over to, I guess, character creation? Sounds good to me. All right. So, in the book, page 7, but it's page 10.

[00:13:38] Otherwise, this is an unparalleled age, a galactic age. This is an age of bounty hunters, vagrants, and bleeding heart outlaws. This is a new rebel era, and the only thing worth a damn is the sweat on your back and the bullet in the chamber and the fuel in your tank. The galaxy is a lawless frontier known as the Frontier Galaxy, and you're an interstellar outlaw.

[00:14:00] Together with your ship and crew, you have to eke out a living on the Frontier Galaxy and chase down the intergalactic dream of freedom and success. So, I probably should have just went straight to the concept. Page 8 is when we jump into the character concept. And again, reading from the book here. Before getting into the mechanisms, think of a kind of character you want to play. What stands out about them? Use this as a base to build a simple, robust character concept.

[00:14:29] After all, if everything goes as planned, you could be around for a while and develop quite a reputation in the Frontier Galaxy. The root concept could be something as simple as a characterful name or something unique about their appearance or actions, like the way they always keep their hair coughed and a jacket neat and how they're always getting into debt collecting vinyl records. Where is that? Aesthetic.

[00:14:59] So, do you have a kind of a root concept you're working with so far? I mean, I was thinking of making like a gunslinger type. That sounds good to me. Was there a particular type of character you were thinking of making? I'm going to do like a down and out dandy. Okay. So, somebody from something who I do have the character concept in the back here, but I'll kind of save that for a moment.

[00:15:25] But yeah, a character who's been in the Frontier for a little while, he's not exactly green. But if he interacts with people too long, they start picking up the errors that he is not from here. So, I think I'm going to go for more of a base character. Okay. Yeah. With my gunslinger, I was thinking of maybe do something like, he's like a bounty hunter, but then he messed up on a job.

[00:15:54] So, now he's like throwing them with the crew to try and, who knows, maybe escape some people, maybe to make some debts, you know. It's a backstory that can be expanded upon a little more once, if it's ever played out. Yeah. But, I mean, it kind of goes with the concept I was working with in my head too. I think I'll just go ahead and tip my hand here. I was really thinking, you know how they have body doubles and stuff like that for political figures and whatnot?

[00:16:23] So a vice president's son or some galactic royalty kind of family, I'm either the son or the clone that they generated. And I don't know which. And that would be a fun tool for the GM to figure out. So all I know is that even if it's retro fantasy, I kind of like the idea of human cloning and stuff like that. I mean, Lord, we cloned a sheep in the 90s, early 2000s.

[00:16:50] Like it's not too far, far of a stretch here. So, yeah. Is it you don't know which or everybody doesn't know which? I don't know which. Okay. And I kind of like the idea that the clone actually usurped me. But there's some holes in my memory. So it looks like it'd be a fun tool for a GM to, you know, if they decide that or I am that person. And then there's a whole slew of people who might be looking for me.

[00:17:20] In fact, maybe that's how we met. Who knows? So just a little something up there. I'm either a clone or I'm the original, but it doesn't matter because someone else is in my spot. Okay. Now we're going to be moving on to still on page. Nope. I take it back. It's on page nine. So there's a deep 100 table of names here.

[00:17:45] A character needs a name like, like others to know them by interseller or be known by like interseller outlaw nicknames or whatnot. Do you want to row on the table or would you like to pick on this one? And then we row on the other. Cause I'm game either way. Okay. I was just going to come up with a name and then just do all the tables for our, our, our fun third character. All right. That sounds good to me.

[00:18:13] I think I'm going to go ahead and pick a name if that's all right with you. Okay. I almost said Tudor is the last name. I was just trying to think of Reginald Bennett. I am Reginald Bennett. That is my name, but I obviously don't go by it there. So I probably in parentheses or hyphenated out for it to what I would actually go as.

[00:18:41] I'll say slick S L I C K. Just like either I was, I'm a smooth talker or someone was being facetious when I got that nickname. Okay. So I would say that my name would be a good last name. My name would be Byron Wolf. All right. And I think for my moniker alias, they would go by would. Damn.

[00:19:10] I kind of like Wolf as the name. Yeah. Maybe I just use my last name. I'm not creative. My guy, my guy's probably not the creative type. He doesn't care too much. He's just like, what? Probably. Okay. What's your name? He's like Wolf. And they're like, oh, that's a good moniker. And he's like, but that's my last name. And then he just, it just stuck and he went with it. I'm going to go. So that's just, I like it. You know, you're, you're a man of action. You ain't got time for this food, food shit. Alrighty. Alrighty.

[00:19:40] So it looks like that took us through. Now there's a quite a collection of random names. We'll see what we pull, pull about here in a bit. So pulling it all together, once you have a concept and a name, think about what led this individual to the life of an interstellar outlaw, though I alluded to mine a bit, or what is it about them that led them down this path? Think of about the problems they might face, that might face your character and how they would go about solving and surviving them.

[00:20:11] Honestly, there's some holes in my character's brain on this stuff here. There was an assassination attempt on three original, whoever it is, Reginald, where I'm kind of thinking how like princess I'm a, I'm a dollar or whatever from a star Wars, how she had like a body double kind of thing like that.

[00:20:34] A ship explodes and the Royal guard that was watching grabbed the Reginald that was alive, that they thought. So, no, we protected him. We grabbed the right one and they whisked him off and my body was found. They pretty much thought he was dead.

[00:20:58] Little fanfare, you know, I think even something so handy is woke up in a morgue and walked out the door with just these scarred clothing, scorched clothing on his back. Is that, is that too out there or does that work? No, I mean, you probably could have grabbed something on the way out of the hospital. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Like the backstory is good.

[00:21:26] It would probably just be like on your way out, you, you, you, you scavenge some supplies from the hospital. So you're not like literally starting with just like half burned to clothes. I guess there would naturally be more to it if we have a spaceship somehow. I would like to strike the nickname of, uh, slick off of mine. My character, it feels like lucky would be a much better name. So I think I recant my slickness and accept lucky in this ordeal here.

[00:21:54] So, you know, and since then he's been kind of living on the DL trying to, and then we'll see how, I don't know how we encountered, but how about Wolf? What's Wolf got for us? Wolf probably grew up on the fringes of city, maybe like in a, a, a town outside one of the big cities of the colony or whatever. So he had to be good with a gun to, you know, ensure safety and everything.

[00:22:24] And sort of learned his way into, to knowing, you know, some of the criminals, cause the criminal, like I would think that the criminals wouldn't stay in the city of the mega corporations. They would probably flee to the outskirts. So probably eventually when times got too rough, they're like, I'm good with a gun. I think I've seen these people on the bounty posters. Like, why not? I'm going to like starve to death anyway. Might as well go out with a bang, see if I can make my money. And that's how we sort of started his bounty, uh, hunting career.

[00:22:55] Maybe actually someone tried to collect your bounty. You're like, that's a damn good idea. Yeah. Maybe, maybe that too. Not, not to write over it. It's like, I like the concept. Yeah. Maybe I think I would probably adjust it slightly to like, maybe like a friend who was like, who sort of like turned to more of the criminal side. Like, he's like, you got to hide me. And then like the bounty hunter shows up and breaks down the door when I'm like housing him. And that's like, oh wait, bounty hunters exist. I can do this.

[00:23:25] I think something that kind of becomes clear as we've done this here. I think I've typed two fields. Like throughout this entire process, I've just only filled out two fields on my character sheet. And I mean, it's not a very big character sheet. I've got a name and I've got the sector stuff. Oh, I also put my player name on there for some reason. Here we are. We've already got our character kind of fleshed out here. I haven't done anything with the stats, which is, as mentioned previously, kind of a rulesite system.

[00:23:54] Here, but I really like how they front load this narrative part into it. And like I said, there's only three stats that we're going to be working with here. And it's kind of easy to go through them. So I think a definite emphasis on the narrative creative side. I don't know if I'm saying that right, Nick. Yeah, definitely. I would agree. Because there's only three stats that you roll.

[00:24:23] And they are muscle, grit, savvy. Muscle is kind of like, you know, your typical strength stat. Yeah. Grit is kind of like your mental fortitude, maybe a bit of just general fortitude. And then savvy is a combination of dexterity and charisma. It combines both.

[00:24:48] It's basically how quick you can react to physical situations or, I guess, verbal situations. And that's it. Yeah. And there's three stats. But as you kind of mentioned, even with like savvy, it's dexterity and charisma kind of thing here. So three stats, but they do a lot of heavy lifting.

[00:25:09] And this is perhaps the first RPG book I've seen that actually, like there's images of the character sheet for each section here. That is just kind of highlighting where you would fill it out on the character sheet. So it says like crew, heart, blues, muscle, grit, savvy. And it's got like a little arrow drawn to it. Have you ever seen anything like that before? Sure.

[00:25:32] I have on like, I think the most recent D&D 2024, they had a picture of their character sheet. And they sort of had different lines pointing to it. Or I could be thinking of something different. But they typically don't highlight which portions of the character sheet get filled in. That's kind of more like a board game kind of thing where they're telling you where stuff goes when you set up the board game.

[00:25:55] So after the stat section here, it says player characters tend to be very good at one thing, pretty good at another, and average at a third. So this represents how we allocate our stats. So allocate plus two to one stat, you're going to give one point to another stat, and then your final stat is going to be zero. So what are you thinking here?

[00:26:20] Well, my whole character concept, I guess time to reveal it, is based around one of the special starting maneuvers or powers you could do all day gambit. Which relies on me shooting pistols really well. So I think I would probably make savvy my main stat, then muscle my secondary stat.

[00:26:47] And I would probably put grit as my last stat, thinking of, you know, I got to shoot the gun good muscle to sort of like wrangle the person in. And I probably don't have like too much fortitude because I would probably, I would just say that I'm more of like a, you know, a tracker and ambusher. So I'm not necessarily, if I'm being hit, there's an issue. Yeah. Yeah. See, that's, I'm going to switch mine up then.

[00:27:16] Because I initially, at the beginning, I was like, well, I said I was going to be a smooth talker, kind of elegant and all that. But that would put me at two on savvy too. So like, with this in mind, I think I'm going to put my two into grit. So grit is a determination. Like, I mean, I got up off a slab and walked out.

[00:27:39] So you've got to be made of some Cerner stuff and then survived on my own with little to nothing or whatever I've managed to pilfer from the room I was in. I'm going to move my savvy down to my plus one skill. And then muscle is going to be my dump stat. So I have a zero on that. And that's fine. You don't have to make your talking person the best at talking. You could have, like I said, I like the one gambit that does well with pistols.

[00:28:09] You could supplement having that as your plus one with a gambit that helps you with talking to people or lying or whatever you would want to do as your play style. My personal play style tends to be I play characters that won't shut the fuck up. So maybe I just talk a lot and I'm not as effective and all that. I may actually play like a naive character with this one too.

[00:28:34] He's just not quite got his spacefaring legs under him, so to speak. So, yeah, I like the possibility of that. And I know it's a little to nothing here. It's for a veteran role player, but I just like actually how my player choices across the table kind of reveal something different about my character that like five minutes ago I thought wasn't going to be there.

[00:29:02] Well, from this point on, it looks like it's in the page 12 here. In normal play, stats can range from zero. However, both player and storyteller's discretion, a character stat may be lowered below zero. For example, negative one. This may be due to an injury, something debilitating, stress, you're drunk, whatever. Don't worry about making your character a bit weak, clumsy, or foolish. Explore the change as it is appropriate.

[00:29:31] An opportunity, excuse me, for character development. So, yeah, it looks like we can go. At least we can go down with our stats. So, time for the ship. I know everybody's been waiting on it and there's a nice little illustration here. Just one last thing for this ship. Oh, wait, no, never mind. Okay, I see what you're reading. Sorry.

[00:29:58] The next page basically goes to what I was going to talk about from what you're reading. Yeah. You cared to lead us, not to put you on the spot, you cared to lead us through the ship just so I don't do it. I see people get tired of hearing my ass. Yeah, that's fine. So, it says here that ships, crews, and characters, and ship's crew and character ensembles are a core pillar of space westerns. With characters' bonds and relationships forming much of the internal momentum of narrative when ships are flying between gigs and deals.

[00:30:27] Or when characters drown their sorrows in the local dive bar after those gigs go south. After outlining a character concept, you should talk with the other players and see what kind of concepts they have in mind. Collectively, you could formulate pre-existing bonds or past jobs those characters have undertaken together or cook up a plot of how they fall together in the first session. So, basically, talk with other players so you don't have three mechanics or, you know. Yeah.

[00:30:56] Or three doctors and they all can't shoot or whatever. And then, yeah. And then if you want to sort of explain why you'd be together on a ship working together, you know. Just you could generate some backstory together. Mm-hmm. So, to continue on, to help with this, take at least one of the titles from the following page. There are two pages with a lot of sort of titles you would typically think of, of like a role. Like the artist, the driver, the spy, the boss, the fixer.

[00:31:25] Like all those kind of titles. So, it recommends taking one of those and thinking how it relates to your character. And then take another one of those titles and figure out how your character associates it with another character on the crew. Whatever you come up with, be sure to do it collaboratively. Ensure everyone's satisfied and comfortable with the roles, stories, and relationships they'll be assuming when play begins. Okay.

[00:31:49] I like how the font looks like either movie titles or band names like the muse, the wolf. I was thinking of like billboards or like neon signs on the side of the road. Sort of like how they have that gas station sign as their front cover. Yeah. So, I assume you're taking the wolf for the wolf? Or like, what do you... I didn't even realize there was a wolf on here.

[00:32:18] I thought it was... I thought this was the name of the ship here in the beginning. I was like, well, you're a wolf and you fly the wolf and you work for a wolf. And, you know... Tell you what, why don't I jump in here first and just throw out the one that kind of jumped to me. I was torn between Twist and the king. And kind of leaning more toward the king. Because apparently, potentially in line for a dynasty. What about yourself? I would probably think of myself as the king shot.

[00:32:48] More than like the wolf. Okay. Because I would think that I would be known for shooting. Then, for you, I would probably... Since you probably tell your story so much, I could see maybe like the survivor. Or, just in general, if you tell me the story the one time, it would probably be like the survivor. Or, I could think of like the recluse. Like, kind of like on the hideout. Kind of like... Or, no, the outcast. That's even better.

[00:33:18] I see that down below. Maybe like the outcast. What about the money? The money. So, what if... Again, there's a whole backstory of how we met and we're working together. Did you recognize, follow this, pick me up? And then, I helped you out. And now, we're kind of working together. And if I reclaim the crown, then you're set.

[00:33:44] Or if you need to cash in your chips with me, you're set. Yeah. Maybe like one drunken time, you're like, if I get my position back, I've got a security job. Perfect for you. Or, maybe something like that. So, I see you as like a... Maybe like a retirement. If it... Yeah. A meal ticket. Yeah. I think... I see you, Ed. Because I didn't address this with yours when I was speaking earlier.

[00:34:13] I think The Rock. Like, you're doing some heavy lifting. And you're more worldly than I am. You were... You handle some big decisions that I wouldn't know how to handle. And I rely on you heavily. So, like, if you have a question about what happens down on the streets, you're like, oh, I can ask Wolf. Yeah. He'll probably give you the answer. Or, and just having you nearby.

[00:34:42] Because I think that I'm wearing my space cowboy hat or space bandana. Neo bandana. I try to obscure my appearance. That's with Paul, you know. So, I've grown a beard. From what parts of my face aren't scarred with burn marks and whatnot. So, I'm kind of hiding. And I feel safer in your company as well. Other than having to run or try to talk my way out of stuff.

[00:35:12] Yeah, I can see that. This is kind of an... I really like this. This is a really interesting little mechanic that just inspiring conversation here. I like it. So, now that we've got our concept and our crew, you need to know how you're going to live. In Orbital Blues, your character has two measures. And I am on page, by the way, 17. Your character has two measures of how well you are getting by. Heart and blues.

[00:35:40] Heart is your ability to get hit and keep on going. It is your physical health and well-being and the stat that keeps you off the floor. Characters begin with a heart equal to eight plus their muscle. So, I guess I'll just get eight. Characters lose heart when they're shot or hit. Should a character's heart ever drop to zero, you are on the brink of death and you better find a suitable dramatic exit before you bite the bullet.

[00:36:08] Blues, on the other hand, are a loose measure of the character's past sins, personal grievances, and guilty hangups. And an indicator of growth and experience. You gain blues from troubles. So, I guess you get a... If we got eight, I guess you got nine. Is that right? As my heart? Yes. Nine. Nine. Hmm.

[00:36:34] So, it doesn't give us a default number to kind of begin here with blues. I think it kind of goes over into troubles. I think in the troubles section on page 34 of the book, not the PDF, I think we'll go into more information about how to get blues. Well, I think so. Maybe I need to double-check that really quick before we go further here.

[00:36:59] Because I think in that section, they say you build up blues and when it reaches a maximum of 12, you basically trigger a scene and then develop a trouble and you reset blues to zero, I believe. Okay. But we could read into that further down. Yeah. It does mention it. And then it goes straight over to gambits and troubles. So, yeah, undoubtedly, there's something. We'll figure this one out a bit later. You're probably right.

[00:37:27] I think I remember something about that when I read it. But you care to discuss gambits because you sound like you already had one kind of figured out anyway. So, do you care to introduce that concept? So, gambits are talents, tricks, reliable assets. It's something that the character can call upon to get jobs done. They reflect the character's past ties or abilities. You get them. One is at the start of your character creation.

[00:37:54] And then you can get them by paying for them with troubles. So, every two troubles, you can get a new gambit. Okay. And, you know, once you start stacking gambits, it looks like with certain things, it can get pretty crazy. And troubles that you mentioned beforehand are summonations of the character's past misgivings, misdeeds, vices, or regrets. They fuel your individual and group narratives and sometimes provide a source of blues.

[00:38:23] Characters begin play with one treble. So, we start with one treble and one gambit. And can gain new trebles at the end of trebles brewing scene or by knocking on heaven's door, which I guess there will be elaborated upon later on in the book. They may also gain trebles at the story carer's discretion. Play from events, actions, or behaviors. You can find a full list of gambits and trebles on page 34.

[00:38:52] So, I think at this point we probably ought to go to 34 since we start with one, don't we? Unless you want to do the starter equipment tables. But it's elaborated more on page 73. So, it's up to you if you want to read the equipment or just skip straight to the gambits and trebles. Oh, let's just go to gambits and trebles and just go back to the equipment. Okay, 34. So, looking through here.

[00:39:22] Hmm. What the fuck am I looking at? Are you looking at 34 of the PDF or 34 of the book? You know what? I was... Mm-hmm. No? Whatever. What are you talking about? Yeah, here we go. Okay. It just looks like it starts at book learning. Page 34. Yeah. Sorry to mean to interrupt. No, it's fine. It just looks like it starts at fighter, not a lover. Yeah. I think this is probably a middle page.

[00:39:50] Like, if you're reading the book, 34 is probably the right side because the page before it, 33, has some gambits listed there, but the description and gambit. No, that's just a particular thing. So, yeah, 33, they start listing gambits. Just to list a few here. We have a fighter, not a lover. And just using this as an example, the first time each session, you would spend heart for exertion during combat role, a blues check.

[00:40:19] Instead, if successful, you do not spend heart. There's ace pilot, which kind of makes sense there. Bandit. Beast. Beauty. Book learning. I mean, several different things here. Several pages. Yeah. If I was to sum up the general feeling of the gambits, a lot of them let you re-roll or ignore negative modifiers to your rolls.

[00:40:45] Or, I guess, in social situations, it lets you do certain things automatically that you can't do. So, it's that type of advantage that you're getting. The thing I was thinking of is page 34. I was thinking of getting the gambit, the devil's right hand. A pistol is as much a weapon as it is an extension of your will.

[00:41:10] You always roll with the upper hand when attacking with pistols, and you never roll against the odds. Upper hand is sort of like you get advantage to the roll, you get a bonus to the roll kind of thing. And then against the odds is sort of disadvantage. So, I would always be attacking with advantage as long as I attack with a pistol, and I could never roll with disadvantage. And the way that the rolls for this game work is you usually roll 2d6. You add your skill to it if applicable.

[00:41:40] And as long as it's 8 or higher, you succeed. If you have upper hand, you add a third die into that mix, and you keep the 2 highest of the 2. And against the odds is sort of like the disadvantage, where you roll 3 dice, and you keep the 2 lowest ones. So, that's why I was focusing on being a gunfighter. So, I always have advantage when attacking with pistols. Yeah. I like that.

[00:42:03] I was kind of going through mine, and I initially was drawn to Lucky because I said that was my nickname. And it is kind of a cool one. You can force yourself or any other character to re-roll a single check against either upper hand or against the odds, and choose either results. Though, I swear, that's just with the survivor thing that I kind of got going on here. I really like there's a gambit called It's All in the Details.

[00:42:33] You notice all manner of things others might not. You roll with the upper hand on observation checks. So, I dig that. I think I'm going to go ahead and cancel that one in. The three other ones that came to mind when you're describing your character is, if you wanted to be one of the upper cross genetically perfected corpos,

[00:42:56] you could say that you have the beauty gambit, where you have the upper hand on checks against those smitten by you. You could do the perfect lie gambit, which is once per session, you perfectly convince someone of a lie. So, I guess you just automatically succeed on the check. And then the last one sort of came to mind when you're describing, like, maybe you're the money. It's thick pockets. Your pockets bulge.

[00:43:26] You always count as having two credits in savings. Tell the other characters where your recent wad of cash came from. So, you could be like, I could fool some people that it's really me and I could get away with it. Like, you walk into the local office of your corpo and be like, hey, I'm here for a routine inspection. Take some money and then run out before they catch on. It's not you. I do like that. That would have been a good one.

[00:43:57] Or maybe the clone you realizes you exist and just always make sure you have two bounty in the bank so you stay away. God damn it, that's better than what I had. Okay? If you like that, then. I do like it. It's almost like I'm getting a bride to stay the fuck away. Maybe it's not to clone me. What was that gambit? I'm going to take it. But it's thick pockets. I think it's towards the end. There we go.

[00:44:26] I'll take it. You can surrender this gambit at any time for D3 payoffs and remove it from your character sheet. So, you know what? At one point in time, I may end up burning my clone or my progenitor, I guess you could say. Hmm. Now, I have not looked at the troubles yet. So, this is, I'm kind of browsing this for the first time. They're a bit more, they're not a bit more.

[00:44:56] They're very elaborate. There's a whole process of things that you could kind of go through to with this here. Just to pick one. There's like 10 pages of them, too. So, they give you a lot of options to sort of define what troubling past you have. Do you have any in mind offhand? So, the three I can think of is the road not taken. Something passed you by. You can't stop thinking about it. Like maybe I gave up on a target.

[00:45:25] And that's what screwed me over. Because I let them go when I could have easily got them and turned them in. The reluctant vagabond. You had a nice life somewhere. Or at least something that was comfortable. It would probably be comfortable. Yeah. You miss it. It eats you up inside. And then the last one could be the in too deep. Where you got involved with the wrong people. And did things you weren't proud of. Like maybe I thought a bounty was a good bounty. And it turned out it was like, you know. Posted by some nefarious people.

[00:45:55] Yeah. Like if we're thinking Cowboy Bebop. They have that sort of bounty system, right? Where they post bounties for all the... They have the TV show, right? Yeah. Yeah. I haven't seen that live action one. Maybe. I've only seen the anime. But maybe like some criminal organization. Or some criminal element. Or someone up in a corporation sort of exploited the system. And got a bounty on there that shouldn't have been on there. And I took it. You know. Maybe something went wrong in that situation.

[00:46:25] So I think those three options could be interesting to play into. Based on how I wanted to go. Yeah. I think Vagabond 1 would be the least likely though. Where I have like a comfortable place to go back to. I also was looking at the road not taken. Kind of going with like. If it had not been. If it had been me that was rushed off in the shuttle. And not whoever. Whoever it was. That was rushed off in the shuttle. What would my life be? Another way you could do it is.

[00:46:55] Like when you first woke up in the hospital. Maybe you could have like spoken out. And got your spot back. But since you waited too long. He sort of cemented his place. As that identity. So it's going to be harder for you to. To prove you are the real one. I think I'm going to take. I know I mentioned this off mic a second ago there. But I think I'm going to take lovesick though. I had a lover. Now they're gone. And it doesn't feel all that good. So the prince. He was courting another royal.

[00:47:24] And now she's with another prince. The same prince. I guess you could say. I don't know. Again I'm kind of. I liked her being no clear idea who is who. With my character. Because of hand injury. So I got to answer two questions here it looks like. So let's see. How did you meet your lost love? Who said I love you first? How did you spend your happiest day together?

[00:47:53] When did you realize it was over? Where did it end? I think. First question. I feel like I need to answer is. How did I meet my lost love? It was an arranged deal. There's a couple amongst the elite. There's several different houses. It was a political move. That was being made. And it was something that my character was reluctant about.

[00:48:21] He had romantic notions of falling in love. And what was the happiest day together? It was. Either it's hallucinatory. Or if I lived it. Or these. These. Memories were implanted into me. It was the day that we went out. And actually. On a date. And actually found. Love within the arranged marriage. It was a good day. Had fun. We laughed. We weren't.

[00:48:51] You know. Prince and princess. Or whatever you want to say there. So. I have all these good memories. And. Because I think the end. Maybe in a way. I don't want it to be. Have ended. Or. You know. There's a lot of doubt. So. He focuses on those positive things. With that gambit. Now. With this being said. I gained. The way these. That gambit. Excuse me. Troubles work. Is. I gain one blues. When something reminds you of them.

[00:49:22] And it stings a bit. Or. Something reminds you of them. And it makes you miss them. So much. Something reminds you of them. And it makes you feel empty. So. Yeah. I guess I'll go ahead. And I'll put that down. For my trouble. And. I think we start with one blues. As well. So. I guess I'll go ahead and. Mark that down. What have you. Ended up on. One comment. Before I get into mine. I like how yours. Is like. The typical horror. Trope.

[00:49:52] Of like. You're walking home. One night. And you see the light on. Through your home window. And there's someone. At your. The dinner table. Like chatting with your wife. With your face. And everything. So. I mean. You threw the monster. Or. Did you ever play. The. That Delta Green scenario. Operation Fominix. The one. I did not. I haven't played it. But I know which one. You're talking about. Yeah. Where. The one's person. The one person's. Memory. And sort of.

[00:50:22] Personality. Get absorbed. By the proto matter. And they constantly. Reform a clone of him. Yeah. And they think. He's the real one. And that the one at the table. Is the proto matter. Yeah. Spoilers. Spoilers. Hey. But in all honesty. It's on. Oh wait. It's not on our podcast. We do have a game of it. Hey. Just listen to it later. It'd be a long time. For our post that one. You'll forget. It's okay. With that being said. Where did you end up? So I'm thinking of the road not taken.

[00:50:51] Something has passed you by. And you can't stop thinking about it. So some of the questions are. What choice do you now regret? Why did you not take that other path? What is stopping you from changing your mind? Whose respect did you lose when you chose this path? How would the other path have improved your life? So I think. That there was a person. Who I had the bounty for. And when I found him. I sort of like probably looked into him.

[00:51:20] To track him down. And then he made his plea. When I captured and everything. And sort of the evidence. That sort of got him his bounty. Was sort of you know. It was iffy. It wasn't substantial. It wasn't solid. Like maybe. I had some like doubt. Like maybe he is innocent. And everything. So I sort of. Let the person go. And then it turns out. Like further down the line. He then goes and like. Murder some people. Or does some heinous crime. And he sort of. Built up and done some more.

[00:51:50] And more heinous. Heinous crimes. It sort of eats at me. Like if I just stopped him there. I would have stopped. All these other crimes. That they committed. And are still committing. So the answer is like. One. What choices do you regret? And why didn't you take it? What's stopping me from changing my mind now? I mean. My mind's changed. I think what's stopping me from solving this. Sort of trouble is. I don't know where the person is. Maybe that's why I'm on this ship with you. Like. I need to pair up with you to get a ship. To maybe like. Get to.

[00:52:19] Where that person is. Or something like that. Yeah. It's. Can I ask you to make up a nickname for him? Like. I mean. He's a. He's a notorious criminal. It's a vest. Stampede. Wait. That's Trigran Jim. But is it. Like. Is it. What kind of moniker is it? Like. I'm intrigued. I don't know. I guess it would kind of depend on what his crime would be. Like. If he's like a crazy. Yeah. Arsonist and bomber. Probably something having to do with that. If he's like a serial killer.

[00:52:49] Yeah. I. I'm. Anyone who's played in a game with me. Knows. I am terrible at coming up with names. And I did not do this intentionally. It's been a while. No. I know. I know. Let's just call him the mangler. The mangler. The mangler. All right. He goes for massive casualties. And. He's not necessarily aiming to. Kill people. He just wants to cause the most damage. I like that. So you've got. It's a GM. That would be a fun one.

[00:53:18] I wouldn't abuse it too much. Like every session. Like. Oh. You see. Oh look. You see a TV playing stuff. You'll. You'll. Eventually get to the point where. You're in a new town. I look down at the ground. I look at my space boots. And I keep walking. I don't look at the newspaper that blows past me. I don't. I don't listen to the radio. Fuck you. Jim. I stay home with the TV. Unplugged from the wall. Man. I'm impressed.

[00:53:48] This ain't going on for a while. For us like. Clicking a couple numbers. It's. I like this. I guess we're almost. I mean. We're just getting to the equipment. And mementos. And the ship thing. And then we pretty much got this licked. Returning back to earlier in the chapter. We got the equipment section. After we picked out our trouble and gambit. On page 19. It states that besides clothes on your back. Your characters in the blue. Start with a basic weapon. Along with. A memento.

[00:54:17] That speaks. Of their past. Deeds. Accomplishments. And relations. Depending on your game. Every character. Also begins play. With a chip. Of documents. Verifying your occupation. Such as. Bounty hunter. Writs. Traders. Documents. Or property deeds. Decide the authenticity. Of these documents. Together. Before the game begins. That's. Now. And then it goes over. Just keeps scrolling down. Mementos.

[00:54:46] But it's just an image. Of a revolver. There's a mementos. Mementos table. Further down. Oh. Okay. A little bit past the starting equipment. So. Since we're picking. Our stuff here. What weapon. Are you. Are you thinking about going with. Well. Given. My. Mid-maxing pistol build. I would probably go with. A pistol. I would probably.

[00:55:17] I would have to double check. The. Chart. On page 75. Because I think they list all the pistols there. Yeah. Because the random roll table. Only has 12 options. Here in the. The creation explanation section. But I would go with a pistol. Of some sort. Probably. In the. The pistol listed there. That has the armor piercing. Ability. Because all. All weapons. In this game. Typically have. Like six modifiers. Attached to them. Like concealable stun.

[00:55:46] Rapid fire. Etc. I mean. My savvy is decent enough. I'm not strength oriented. So. I think melee. And forcing. A blade into somebody. Would be. A bit. Bit. Ify. You know what I mean. So. I. May regret this. Later on. But. I honestly think. I want to go with. I'm either. Give me your opinion. I'm either thinking. Shotgun.

[00:56:16] Because you don't have to. You don't have to be a real good shot. With a 12 gauge shotgun. It's. It's. It's. It's a forgiving weapon. Or. Of. I was thinking. Of a taser. A stun gun. Oh. Well. We get one melee weapon. And one ranged weapon. Oh. Awesome. You know what. That's. That sounds pretty good to me. I think. I will take. The. Shotgun. And. And when I'm running silent. I'll take. The sun gun.

[00:56:46] For my. Melee weapon. I think I'd go with the boot knife. The. Concealable knife. Mm-hmm. You know. Just. Just. Just in case. Something. Oh yeah. Oh. Mine's a military shotgun. So. Maybe. I just. Pick that up off the table. When I walked out the door. Maybe this is just some of my. Accoutrements. From my. Morgue visit. Because. It. It is military. And it does have the intimidating modifier.

[00:57:15] Which goes really well with your. My burns. Your burns and everything. Yeah. Yeah. But I got a heart of goat. The way I didn't. I didn't pick that one. Never mind. There's some stuff on martial weapons as well. But neither of us really. No you did. You picked a martial weapon. So martial weapons could be anything. Playing from a martial arts weapon. Such as. A pair of psi. To futuristic vibro sword. Or mace. So.

[00:57:45] To represent this versatility. When martial weapon. Must be. From the following. So. Deadly. Piercing. Concealable. Deadly. Defense. I said deadly twice. Defensive. Intimidating. I almost said capricious. Conspicious. Or heavy. Well. Okay. Mementos. Now I'm thinking of it. Did. I know you're. Younger. But not as though. I mean. Not that young. Do you remember the Mementos commercials? Because this is what I'm kind of.

[00:58:15] Reminded of. If. If I saw it. I'd probably recognize it. Yeah. What I thought of. Was the movie Memento. Oh. Which has nothing to do with any of this. Well. Kind of actually does. Yeah. Because he's using the stuff to the. Not to spoil something else. But he's using something to. To keep his memory in check. It's a good Christopher Nolan film. Gus. And it had got. Guy Pearce in it. Mementos. Which is also the. A place in one of the Personas games. Are a. Are small trinkets. Artifacts. Or keepsakes that reflect.

[00:58:44] The character's life prior to. Sort of play. They can be used. Simply as narrative prompts. For your character's backstory. Or a critical. Plot device. In an uncertain future. For the frontier galaxy. Players may row on. Or pick from. We're going to pick up. Our mementos. From the following table. Of mementos. Or make up. One of their own. Hmm. Now. Quite a few things here. Looks like there is. 18 of them. So. You'd row in 3d6. On this. Or.

[00:59:15] What not. Any of these. So. Which one of these. Uh. Your interest. Are. I think the one. That screams. To me. Would be. Well I guess. Two options. Now that I actually. Finished. Going down the list. One would be. Bounty on a former lover. But. Given my backstory. I don't think that applies. Too much. Because I'm really focusing on. A serial killer. Instead of a lover. Otherwise that would be. A real. Weird. Yeah. Love hate relationship.

[00:59:44] Yeah. Um. I think the other one. Would be the credit. From your first bounty. I think that's what I would go. I'm going to do a little. A little B of this here. I'm going to pick from the list. But I'm going to specify. A sentimental jewelry. I have a signet ring. And. As far as I know. That is. There's only one person. Who wears that signet ring. And it would be the prince. But. Maybe I'm misremembering. Maybe it's the burns. And whatnot. But. When I took the ring off. After I got out of the morgue.

[01:00:15] I didn't really see. An indention. On my finger. You know how some people. When they wear a wedding band. It's like. That ring. Mark on their flesh. I didn't see. No tan line. Or anything like that. But I mean. Who knows. Maybe I didn't put it on. And not. But I do have. A marker of jewelry. It indicates that I am. Of the royal household. And it's very particular to. The son. Of the king.

[01:00:44] It works with it. That's. That's sort of taken the. Crime syndicate tattoo. Recommendation there. And expanding upon it a bit. To fit your backstory. Yeah. So. I think the only thing left. Would be. Our starting equipment. Which. Is. Basically. A piece of gear. That. We can use. To help us in some way. It could be. A robot. It could be. Some sort of. Information gathering.

[01:01:15] Technology. It could be. Weapons. Of some sort. That's basically the gist of it. Something just aids you. In your adventures. So you're not. Just like. Grambling about. At a disadvantage. At the beginning. And. It seems like. There's certain ones. Is there like an aspect. Expanded equipment. I forgot. Oh. There's more. Evan. So this isn't all the equipment. This is just what we get. Hmm. Yeah. If you.

[01:01:43] If you look in the equipment section. That some of it. Is actually listed as like. Illegal equipment. Or. Banned equipment. Or. Some. Places might have it. And some places might not have it. So. It's actually. I think that's an. That's an interesting thing. To add in. To the. The story. Because. You could be. Focused in on a. On a job. And. Traveling. Between planets. Or systems. Or something. And. It might just be like. A small little. Little.

[01:02:13] Lapse in judgment. You forget. That you have. Say. Like. The highly illegal. Bio scanner. And then. It's like. Yeah. You're at customs. Or whatever. And they're like. Okay. We need to look at your ship. And they like. Walk on. And then they immediately. Turn to the first thing. Go. What's this? And arrest you. And. And the people. That you're pursuing. Get a head start. Don't. Just think of it as an opportunity. To get to trouble. And they. They. They pay off.

[01:02:43] I. Don't know. What I'm going to pick. Crew equipment wise. We. We think. We just get one equipment. For the entire crew. What are you thinking? I'm. I'm pretty open. I think some sort of. Scanning device. Would be good. Bio campus. Bio compass. I think like. Tracks down a person. We can do cargo scanner. If we think. We're going to be doing more. Space. Oriented stuff. We could do space suits. If we think. We're going to be pursuing stuff. I thought. Warrants. A warrant scanner.

[01:03:13] Would probably fit with. Like the backstory. A little bit too. I think it works. That's what I would suggest. It's not my ship. I didn't sell ship. Yeah. However. I ended up on here. You know. It's. It's. I think it fits. That you would have a warrant scanner. Integrated. Yeah. I just don't want to use something. That's expendable. Like grenades. Or something like that. Because this is our first. And only equipment. And if we use it. Like right away. And there's some of these. That you roll on. So.

[01:03:43] D3. So we wrote D3. For high quality fake IDs. That wouldn't be a bad thing. D6. For poor. Ships. D3. For EMPs. As you mentioned beforehand. Remote explosives. Like. All of these. You roll on. So. Yeah. We go ahead. And take the. The warrant one affair. Cool with that. Yeah. Sounds good to me. All right. Now we got. The soundtrack. This is. Bottom of 27. Your player. A player should think of a suitable song. Theme.

[01:04:12] Or piece of music. To serve. As their characters. Leitmotif. So. You know. For those of you. That have not taught a humanities class. Like myself. At one point in time. A leitmotif. Is your. Theme song. So. Think of. The imperial march. Being with. Darth Vader. And really kind of cool thing. That George Lucas did. In the. Star Wars. The. Second set of trilogies. Like the Pottery. Someone. There's Anakin Skywalker.

[01:04:41] They have Anakin's theme. It's. You know. Young Darth Vader. He's a little boy. And he's so. Light. Lighthearted. And all that. And at the very tail end. You hear that. Dun. Dun. Dun. Dun. You know. From the imperial march. So. This is. The little jingle or tune. That's going to be. Working his way throughout. Your soundtrack in this movie. So to speak. So. Do they have any suggestions. Or do we just pick. There. I didn't.

[01:05:12] See any suggestions. I think we just pick. Okay. Hmm. A. We know. Absolutely. Nothing. About. Music. Really. So this is probably. The. This is probably. A terrible choice. But for some reason. The first thing that popped into my head. Is. Is big iron. You know what? I think it fits. We're space cowboys. In this retro future. Big iron on his hip. You're that Texas Ranger. So. Some variation of that. Is going to be playing.

[01:05:42] And. Hmm. What does a disposed. Prince clone. God damn it. So they'll think. Weird Al had a song. Set to Tiffany's. I think I'm alone now. Called. I think I'm a clone now. I don't know. If I was just going to pick. Like a generic. Kind of jingle. Kind of thing like that. I would say. Like a royal. Strings. Kind of. But it's. Rustically played.

[01:06:12] But. Let's just pick a song. So. Weird Al's. I think I'm a clone now. I'm a fucking sick with that. You know. Am I a clone? I don't know now. There's always two of me. Just a hanging. A friend. We. Need to do our ship now. And I think. That is probably. The last thing. I. I think we just. Assigned stats. Like. We did with our. Skills. Where we choose. You know. Which one wants to get plus two. Which one gets plus one. And which one gets plus zero. And.

[01:06:42] The character sheet. In and of itself. Doesn't. Typically have. A place. I see. For a ship. Do you? I don't. So. Hmm. Second sheet. Yeah. I don't know if there's a second. I might look on page 82. Don't see a second sheet. I flipped to page. What page is that? There's a nice. Pump shotgun. On page. Oh fuck. I don't even have page numbers.

[01:07:12] PDF is 83. Hmm. Vehicles. Vehicle stats. You know. In all honesty. I say we just leave the ship. That seems like it would be. A bit something else. We could probably. We could probably figure it out. And play. I mean on page. 33 of the PDF. It lists. Just you have. Mobility. Body. And systems. Mm-hmm. I mean. The way it's laid out right now. Which is plus two to systems. Plus one to mobility.

[01:07:42] Plus zero to body. I think would like. Just fit perfectly. Like. Body. It's going to be the bare minimum. Can it fly? Good. Yeah. Yeah. And then mobility. It's like. You know. I put a little bit into it. And the systems is. Or maybe mobility is two. And systems is one. But I feel like body would be. Be zero. Given you're in exile. And I'm like. A haunted. Bounty hunter. Yeah. What if we answer the question. On page 29. Or 32.

[01:08:12] Of the PDF here. Former purpose. Like. What was our ship. Before we took it. I guess you want to roll on the. The table. Yeah. We can roll on that. That sounds good to me. Since we're all not getting individual ships. This would make. Since we said we were going to roll up. Somebody else here real quick. One D6. I think. Was it D6? Yeah. Do you want to roll for the purpose. Or the origin? I'll do the purpose. You can do the origin. All right. So.

[01:08:41] I wrote a one. So. It's. Records are unknown. Boom. The VIN number's gone. I love this. Because I just got. Restored from a graveyard. But how well. I like that. So. It's. It's got a rebuilt title. To use modern terminology. For our cars. And stuff like that. It's the body of zero. Yeah.

[01:09:10] It's a work in progress. She. She runs like a scouted dog. To use a redneck expression. But at the same time. And. I. Would. Allow me to impose upon you. Please roll. A. D100. For. The ship's name. Okay. 51. 51. Looks like this is the blast tyrant. Awesome. There is. God.

[01:09:39] I know we've said this beforehand. There are so many. Man. These people. You know what these. The authors of this book. Like. So. I mean. I'm looking at. Right now. Some of these. And I see. All kinds of song titles. I take. The Mississippi Queen. Ruby Tuesday. Which is a song. Song. Spirit in the sky. Lady Marmalade. The Trooper. Which is an Iron Maning song. Bitches Brew. Peggy Sue. Like. I don't know.

[01:10:08] I like this weird. Eclectic. Proud Mary. There's a. Asimov. An author. I just. Fuck. Like. It's. It's. It's so. All over the place. That I. I just love it. Wow. Well. We did it. I. I could probably count the characters. That I typed on this. Character sheet. On my fingers and toes. Possibly. It's very minimalistic. I think we. Pretty much. Have got it all. Taken care of.

[01:10:38] Any thoughts. Before we. Do a little bit of randomizing. Yeah. I'll just. The one thing. That's on the character sheet. That we didn't go over. For those of you. Who don't own it. And can't see it. Is they actually have a section. For your characters. Mugshot. So. For those of you. With artistic talent. Can. Try your characters. Mugshot. If you wanted to. Out of the character sheet. I do like that. Oh. Certain credits. Was it one. Or two. I can't remember. I think it was one. Two.

[01:11:07] Two. Okay. Even better. I left that out. For you it would be two. Because you have the. Thick wallet. That's right. I. You know what. I said it's simple. But. It's. Reminds me so much again. Of powered by the apocalypse. Which is how the system works. It's just powered by the apocalypse. With three stats. And. Each of those stats. Taking care of two different things. So. Don't let the character sheet fool you. It. It seems like a lot of fun. And. And. There are tons of. Well. Not tons. But there's.

[01:11:38] Quite a bit. Of. Material that you can get from. So Muppets website. To support this. Or drive through RPG. Or whatnot. I do think that there is a. I think there's a free scenario. Or maybe it's when you have to pay for. Like. All it glitters is in gold. Or something like that. There's several different things. That you can just. You know. Pick up the book. And just run with it. So. But you're not going to get the cool. VHS cassette tape. That I have. That smells. Exactly how I remember it. From the video stores in the 80s. They actually had to outsource that stuff.

[01:12:07] They made a claim. And then. Then they had that. On the Kickstarter. And then when they had to actually find them. I think they had a. They had a hard time. Just going through. People had surplus. Like. Because. Cases for cassettes. So. It was cool. Oh. So they used actual. Cassettes. Yeah. Not just a box that looks like a cassette. Or something. No. It was the. Real deal. And it's got. Uh. I mean. This. Like I said. The smell took me back. To. To. Ye. Odin times.

[01:12:37] I have. Already saved. My. Character sheet. So I'm going to. Give me a second here. With. Do this. Rapid fire. Yeah. And. We'll just show how quick it is to. Row up a character sheet. Yeah. I hope I saved Reggie. Because I have a feeling. I just clicked off of it. And didn't save it. But. Hey. It's easy to. I can rebuild Reggie. In a matter of seconds. On this. Yeah. So. Let's go through this real quick here. And then we'll go through our final thoughts.

[01:13:08] I am. Going to be. Dictating this. I mean. Dictating. I'll be. Recording this. So. Why don't you go ahead. Back up to the top. We've already got our. Our sector. Picked out. You. Do the rows. Tell me what you're doing. And I'll put them down. First one is. Character name. Or the. The code name. The code name. Or alias. Whatever you want to call it. We've got. Fifty eight. Which would be. Chi. C-H-I.

[01:13:38] C-H-I. Okay. All right. And. I think we should wait and see. How. We. Actually. No. Let's just. Do muscle. As one. Grit. As two. Savvy. As three. And we'll see which one gets the plus two. If you want to do that. That sounds good. I like it. I got a six. Which would be a three. So savvy. Gets two. We're going to have all. Talkative characters. Mm-hmm. Odd or even. Odd will be muscle.

[01:14:08] Even. Grit gets one. Mm-hmm. And then muscle. We get zero. So it's my character. All over again. Hey. I got a backup. Yep. This is. She is clone number two. That place. Two clones running around. If you shave that mustache. Maybe. No. I think we. Is it. So. Heart. Let me go ahead and. Heart would be eight.

[01:14:38] Because I think muscle is zero. It's base. Gambit. Is there. There's not a random table for the gambits. But there are. Are. Thirty-two gambits. If you want to. Mm-hmm. Meet. Counting that. Sure. And the great thing about dice rowers. You can just type in slash row. One. D. Thirty-two. Yes. Are you doing that or should I? You go ahead. I'm. Fifteen. Hail of blows.

[01:15:07] You can pummel your enemies into submission. With attack after attack. Spend one heart when making an attack roll. To make a second attack. With disadvantage this same turn. Ooh. Nice. Yes. We've got sort of a berserker on our hands. Yeah. Yeah. Our third compatriot. With zero muscle. He's. He's just flailing. Plap, plap, plap, plap, plap. It does say attack. It doesn't specify a melee attack though. That's good. That's good.

[01:15:37] He could be. He, uh. Savvy makes you shoot pretty good. I mean. It could be. Spray and pray it. Yeah. What if we. Count us up some troubles. I like this approach here. Trouble. I believe there's twenty troubles. Because I said there was ten pages before in the stupid page. I got three. Brick in the wall. You're just normal. Well-functioning person. No angst. No trauma. Nothing. How did you end up here? Perfect in my opinion.

[01:16:07] And I'll add one blues. I think it comes with that. And. Ah. You know what? Hell with it. Why don't you. Let's roll for equipment real quick. Let's do the same format. There. Okay. So ranged weapon. Would be. A d12. A sticks. Would be a. Single action revolver. Okay. And the. Melee weapon. Would. Be.

[01:16:37] A. Tire iron. Okay. And. Momento. That is. An eighteen. So we'll just roll a d20. And ignore it. Nineteen or. Eight. He's got a wallet photograph. Or she. We haven't specified. Or she. Or wallet photograph. I'm sorry. Wallet photograph. Okay. I said he. But then I was like. Or she. We haven't specified. Yeah. Well she. She. She. At this point. We'll just leave it as she. And. Anybody wants to pick it up.

[01:17:07] We did not come up with a crew name. Is there anything in this book. About a crew name. Does that look like. No. I think they leave that. To you guys. To. I think they leave it. To the team. To come up with it. I was hoping to roll for something. And get. Sergeant Pepper's. Lonely Hearts Club band. But. Okay. Well. I think that's it. Nick. What's your feelings about this. So far. No. I think it's an interesting game. Definitely. Rules light. Leaves a lot up to. The.

[01:17:37] Person who's running it. And the players. Imagination. And. What they want to do. Mm-hmm. And. Yeah. I'd be interested to see. How a game of this goes. Yeah. Well. I mean. As I mentioned beforehand. I got a wealth of stuff. So. The odds of this one being played. Is a hell of a lot better. You know. Me running it. As opposed to. You know. If I didn't invest. Over a hundred dollars. On a Kickstarter. To get a cassette tape. A VHS cassette tape. Of scenarios. Tucked away.

[01:18:06] Inside of it there. So. Yeah. This. I mean. It looks like a lot of fun. It's. Again. If you guys are interested in a book. It's. It's a beautiful book. Laid out. Great quality. I love it. And you just saw how. We were able to just. Random roll a character. And what. Like. Five minutes. Yeah. It's a. It's a game. You could like. Quickly. Pick up. Like a one shot. Or something. If you're looking for something. To do. Well. I'd like to. Thank you all for tuning in.
