[00:00:17] Hello and welcome to Al Dente Rigamortis. I'm Review Cultist. I'm Mikey, the East and Three of them. And I'm the Gamer in Yellow. And we're here to discuss those internet stories, most creepy and most pasta, and be critically silly doing it. And tonight we have... Hell-O-Ween. So yeah, Hell-O-Ween is by Tawawi, because we've been on a Tawawi trip of late. Haha, alliteration.

[00:00:48] We have it. And yeah, they did some Halloween stuff, so we're gonna cover their Halloween stuff around this time of year. Because it is... This episode will get posted the week of Halloween. So... Happy Halloween everybody! Yeah. But before we get too far ahead, we should probably do our initial recommendations. I'm... Not gonna recommend it. Oof.

[00:01:16] I am also not gonna recommend it. Oof. Big oofs. So much oofs. Um... I'll recommend it? I'm curious why both of you don't, though. Yeah, okay. I can assume... For one reason, for sure. Yeah, for one reason or another. Perhaps. Yeah. Yeah. But, uh... We shall dive in. Guys, I got candy corn in my... Like, mostly. Like, it kinda sucks. Like... You say that.

[00:01:45] Some people love candy corn. You know what? I just found out MomCultist loves candy corn. It's her favorite candy. I found that out last weekend. Yeah, I remember... This is a bit of a tangent already. I remember at some point, like, uh... On Game Grumps. Aaron from Game Grumps says, like... To all those who say that candy corn's disgusting, fuck you. Because, like... This is our time. This is the only time we can get it. So, by the people that like it, this is our time.

[00:02:15] Yeah, I mean, like... I don't... I don't hate it. Like, it's definitely... It's just not my, like... Go-to. My go-to is Reese's. Like... Anything Reese's, basically, is my go-to. So... But, like... It's probably not gonna be gummy bears anymore. Yeah. To try to bring it back to the story. Yeah, thank you. I think I see out my window, um... The Tangent Police... No, no, hang on. Those might be just some costumers. Yes, yes. Some trick-or-treaters dressed up as... As, uh... Tangent Police, but, uh... They did roll up in a SWAT van, though.

[00:02:44] So that's, like, commitment. Hey, man, like... Some people love this time of year more than others. Mm-hmm. For sure. To get into the bit more. Anyway... Knocked down! Trick-or-treat motherfuckers! Before that happens, we should continue on with the story of Hell-o-ween. Um... So, yeah, let's find out why we gave, um... Those recommendations and non-recommendations. Um... Starting with the rundown.

[00:03:13] So, Walt doesn't think like other people. He's psychologically disconnected and apathetic, cold and methodical in his thoughts. But masks it to interact with other people. Uh... An example of this is how he deals with a bird with a broken wing and what he thinks of his so-called friends. Um... If you know, you know. I.E. Read the story. Not quite. I didn't realize he was named. Yeah, I...

[00:03:42] I had to go double-check a couple of times because I remember, like, oh, he's not just Nair! Somebody said his name! Yeah, he said... They said it once. Yeah, they said it once. Yeah, I... Um... So, yeah. Walt's a bit of a psychopath. Um...

[00:04:00] And, uh, on Halloween, Walt, clad as a internet version of a Wendigo, uh, and his friends Dave, costumed as Austin Powers, Brian, Werewolf, and Velma, a succubus, are heading to Jen's house for a Halloween party. Jen is Walt's ex, who felt he was too emotionally unavailable. Can't imagine why.

[00:04:21] On their way, they stop at a strangely gothic home in Jen's neighborhood, uh, the richer part of town, and get gummy candies from a woman who appears differently to each person in the group. They realize this after they have eaten some of the candies and think it's strange, but carry on after dumping the rest of the gummies.

[00:04:42] At the party, it is a menagerie of different costumed folks, though they are all acting very strange, acting very close to their costumed personas. Walt goes to the basement, where he usually hangs out with everybody, where witches are brewing over a lit flame, and then he is assailed by a zombie guy on the stairs, who seems to try and actually want to bite him.

[00:05:09] Walt shoves him into a wall, and the zombie falls down the stairs after hitting his head rather hard. Walt starts feeling a little unwell at this point, and doesn't want to get caught for what he did to the zombie, and goes back upstairs to find Werewolf Brian consuming the flesh of the now-dead Dave. He also spots a large bag of those gummies in the house, and decides he needs to leave.

[00:05:37] Outside, he finds Velma grinding on some guy like a real demoness, and it seems she can't help herself, and even begs for Walt's help. Walt, feeling more pain in his gut, flees, and then realizes that the pain is actually a hunger, and that there are children walking around trick-or-treating that would make a great solution to that problem. He wakes up in his bed the next day to a call on his phone. It's Brian.

[00:06:05] Turns out everything from last night seems to have been all in Walt's head, as everyone last night is still alive and seemingly well, except for the guy Walt pushed down the stairs. He's dead. As are the trick-or-treaters from down the street that Walt chased and fed on. As police head to his house, Walt looks outside to see more kids walking the street, and decides to hunt some more down for food before the authorities arrive.

[00:06:36] Finn. So yeah, that was Hell-O-Ween. Now I suppose we'll move on to... Everyone talk! Do you guys have anything? Wow. You didn't even tolerate saying the title of the section. I really didn't. No. I was just like, I got nothing. I didn't find anything of note for me grammatically. So like, yeah, do you guys got anything?

[00:07:04] I got nothing, but I'm sure Mikey has something. Yes, Mikey. Yes, I have an it story. Everyone tolerates the ground inquisitions! At this point, Mikey. And next stop, Conjunction Junction. It's not unfamiliar to me to be described by others as off-putting, but I've never really put much stock in what other people say.

[00:07:32] It's obvious that the vast majority of people are so deeply troubled by what everyone else thinks of them that they're inhibited from being their true selves. It's really rather pathetic, if you ask me. It was a strangely warm night. It had been cool so far all autumn.

[00:08:01] It must have been Brian. He is obsessed with everything Halloween, despite being a coward. It was also hard to deny that I looked damn good in the Wendigo costume Brian made. It definitely showed off my physique. It had huge gothic windows. Huge tracks of land! Sorry, I could not help it.

[00:08:31] Sorry. It had huge gothic windows and a towering turret jutting archaically out of the top. His Wendigo costume did? That's what the context says right now. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:08:56] It was seldom that we would traverse the suburban cesspool that was her neighborhood. It smelled terrible. It struck me that everyone here was incredibly committed to their costumes and playing the role. It became painfully obvious that something beyond rational explanation was going on here.

[00:09:26] It was only now that I realized how terribly that witch's brew had been stinking up the house. It was kind of gross, honestly. It was a strange feeling of insatiety. A craving for something I've never known. It was Brian the Wolfman.

[00:09:55] It was a craving for Brian the Wolfman? Oh my god. This is a sexual awakening for him. Yeah. Hell yeah. It was a weird thing to say, but you say weird shit all the time. Finn. I mean, yeah. Wow. Actually, a lot of things that were taken out of context in a kind of a silly way.

[00:10:26] That kind of happens when you grab all the sentences through a story that start with words that they probably shouldn't, like its ends or buts, and string them together into a sentence with sometimes hilarious results. Basically to highlight that there's generally better words to use. Indeed. All right. So, yeah, gamer, no grammar in yellow. Nah. All right. Then let us press on to actual thoughts. I'm going to start with the image. Okay. Yeah, it's an image of some gummies in a shot glass.

[00:10:57] Like gummy bears, I think, right? That's what they look like? Yeah, gummy bears. Yeah, little gummy bears. Though, I got to say, if the witch, if a witch on Halloween did give me gummy bears in a shot glass, that would definitely be a red flag. Because that's what they, like, it's a shot glass. It's like, yeah, those are definitely not regular gummy bears. I suppose.

[00:11:21] Also, did you notice that this is also the same picture from M.M. Pratt's Aberration Series S? I did also notice that, yeah. Mm-hmm. I'm unsure which one came first, but I believe this one actually makes more sense than that one. Because on that episode, I seem to recall us being like, why is there gummy bears here? That is true. Also, yeah, it looks like added by Tuawei, posted in Halloween, and the Aberration Series S. So it's actually like a shared image on the wiki.

[00:11:52] Yeah. Yeah. It's actually kind of cool that they actually tell you what other stories the image is associated with or used in. Mm-hmm. Yeah. When you, like, zoom in, like, to look, to preview the image. So, yeah. Oh, also, no, there are gummy bears in that M.M. Pratt one. Never mind. Yeah, yeah. There was, like, yeah. Yeah, there was gummy bears. Yes. I searched gummy and they showed up. So, yes. Okay. It's cool. There.

[00:12:19] I retract my previous statement of saying that I thought that, as I recalled, I thought that that one didn't make sense, but it does. Never mind. Yeah. Stricken from the record. Let's move on. Wasn't that, like, a bag of gummies or something? Well, no, I think it was a bag of, like, pistachios or something he was, the kid was eating in that story. But there was a bag, there was also gummies, like. A small sack filled with gummies is what the witch gives them. Yeah, yeah. In this story, yes. Yeah.

[00:12:49] So, there's no shot glass. I mean, okay, like, clearly the image isn't, like, made specifically for the story. It's just used to, like, the hat, because it has gummies in it. So. It's a bit more closely related image than some of the stories we see where the image is, like, completely unrelated. Exactly. I don't know. I feel like it's a fabricated shot glass. Okay. Nice. Wow. Nice reference.

[00:13:18] That almost no one will understand, probably. Yeah, that's definitely an in-joke for Al Dente. That's like a deep cut. Yeah, that's a long time ago. Man. All right. Let's move on. There was a shotgun in the scene. And they're like, no, there's no shotgun here. You just fabricated that shotgun. Yes. Thank you for highlighting my foibles. Half the people listening to this might not understand. I'm not mad. I'm just doing it for the bit.

[00:13:45] I'm just being passive aggressive is all. I understand. All right. Can we move on from the image? No. Yes. Yes. All right. I'll start with the first quote I have here from the actual story. Um, after a time wasting deliberation of who's going to take it home and rolling excuses as to why no one could. I put it out of its misery with a nearby rock. Jess cried like a pathetic child.

[00:14:15] She even called me a psychopath. Thankfully, she didn't cry when she broke up with me. And it meant I was free just in time for Halloween. You know, I get that this could be looked at as a red flag and his overall viewpoint seems rather psychopathic like the rest of the, for the rest of the story. Um, but the bird thing is sort of justified to me.

[00:14:41] Like, I don't think I could have done that deed, but that might've been the best for the bird, especially since like everyone else is humming and hawing over like who's going to take care of it. And like, depending on like the severity of like the, the, the, the wing injury, like sometimes the best, unfortunately the best, uh, the best thing to do with that kind of situation is to put the animal out of its misery. But they could have taken it to a vet. They could have, but they were all humming and hawing.

[00:15:11] And then like little Mr. Psychopath here. The way that it was described, he said like. The wing was like beyond repair, like grievously wounded. Like it could have been like hanging on by a thread. So like that bird is not going to fly again. Yeah. I mean like there are like animal care places that like do take care of birds that have like lost the ability to fly and like they keep them alive and like keep them happy, like keep them content and stuff like that.

[00:15:37] Like, but it's like, yeah, it's the difference between like, do you want to have this like bird basically like in captivity for the rest of its life or just put it out of its misery? It's, it's again, this, this action, like what he does is definitely a red flag. Um, but it can also be because of the context of the rest of the story, but it can also be like construed as like just putting an animal out of its misery because it's already been injured. So yeah. Yeah.

[00:16:04] Um, that said, um, it is interesting that we are getting a story from the perspective of someone who is usually a villain, um, because of the way he like he's acting. And this is, this is my comment right at the beginning of the story. And then an update. Oh, oh no, he is the villain. I guess I should have realized that from the rest of the stuff from the context. I mean, he becomes the villain when he's a monster. I mean, like transforms. I don't know.

[00:16:32] Like it is like, yeah, you're right. Like he, like he, like, especially by the end, like he definitely is becoming a monster, but he's also not a good person. Um, at least he's not a horrible person though. He just doesn't care. Yeah. He's apathetic. Yeah. He has, he has, um, some kind of behavioral, like, uh, abnormalities that are like basically making like the, has him like think differently and like be more like cold and calculating versus like empathetic. Um, it actually kind of reminded me of one of the bullies from the Stephen King novel,

[00:17:02] the it, um, where, and there's a scene in the, or a chapter in Stephen King's it, where we get a POV of Pennywise, uh, of a Pennywise victim. Um, uh, this bully who is straight up a psychopath in his behavior and thought processes. Um, and Pennywise has difficulty properly scaring the child because he, uh, like right before he eats him, just because like nothing scares this kid. So he, uh, so Pennywise's form keeps fluctuating, like trying to like find something that like will scare the kid and nothing works.

[00:17:32] And then he just gets eaten. But, um, there's a whole like bit of like from where it's the POV from that kid's like perspective and like him thinking back on what he's done. And not caring of things that he's done that like very much like psychopathic activity or psychopathic behavior. And it's like, it's interesting. Again, this story like has that kind of POV for the character. Yeah. So I'll get away from my, my, uh, psychotherapy that I am not, I am in no way a professional at all.

[00:18:00] I'm not even, I'm not even a student of psychotherapy. No, it's just, uh, yeah. I thought it was interesting the way the character was portrayed at an extra layer of depth to the character. Um, but I'll move on. So next thing I have here is, um, Ailswell was prone to dramatic Halloweens, both through the mercurial weather and the people.

[00:18:25] So as is my norm, I had to take a look and see if this town existed, presumably in Ontario, uh, the town of Ailswell, uh, since so far Tawai's work has been set in Ontario. And it turns out it is a fictional town. It is not actually a real place, but it is connected to another Tawai tale. Rapacious. So really? I did not know that. Yeah.

[00:18:52] The only information I found on it, cause I also looked it up is, um, it's in oblivion. Yes. Yes. There is, there's a town. Yeah. I saw that as well. There's a town. Elder Scrolls 4 called the exact same thing. So as far as I'm concerned, this is a video game creepypository. Oh my God. Yes. It's just set in, in the, in the, in the land of, in the land of, uh, Tamriel. Yeah. I mean, like those witches literally like just put a magic spell on them to just transmogrify them into whatever.

[00:19:22] Oh man. Yeah. Isn't, can't you contract lycothropia in Elder Scrolls? You can contract lycothropia. You can contract vampirism. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But I don't think it actually is, but it is funny. I don't know. I'm pretty sure I know. Actually, we confirm that. Aren't there children in those games and they're invincible? Yes, exactly. Okay. Okay. Then it's not. Yeah. But, uh, yeah.

[00:19:50] So I guess we have another story that we, from Tawawi that we'll be covering, uh, at some point, probably next week. Yes, clearly. Yeah. Yeah. Of course. Uh, but I'll, I'll move on. Uh, so the next quote I have here is, uh, Dave, what did you, Dave, what did she look like to you? Brian asked soberly. She was, she was a he, but damn, did he look good in drag?

[00:20:20] Velma, what about you? She was a sweet and kind old lady, kind of like a grandma. Dave raised her, raised his eyebrow and shook his head with disgust and confusion in equal parts. I saw a truly horrific looking witch, long, warty nose, missing teeth, greenish skin. I swear. I even heard a cauldron bubbling in, in there somewhere.

[00:20:44] We all looked at each other suspiciously before looking at the sack of gummies with even more trepidation or trepidation. So I really like this concept of an entity, assuming at this point that it's an entity that's doing that, that's behind this looking different depending on the individual in the group. Just like, uh, I just, I think that's cool. Like they, they realize after the fact is like, wait, she looked like this. No, she looked like this. How, how can you say that?

[00:21:13] Like, she's like, like, wait a minute. It's like a cool, like little, like hint that there's something afoot, like something, something supernatural or, or odd afoot. It is neat, but like in practice, if you are choosing to glamor yourself differently for each individual person, you are giving them all the clues they need to see through your disguise. Well, that's only if they actually like, like all like start realizing it.

[00:21:40] It, it kind of reminds me of the, there's a scene, I think in Mass Effect two or three where there's an Asari on a table, like a sorry stripper on a table or dancer on a table. And there's like a Turian, a human and the Salarian. They're like basically celebrating the Salarians, like bachelor party essentially in quotes. And then there's a conversation you can kind of like listen in on where it's like, where they all start realizing that the Asari looks different, like differently appealing to each member.

[00:22:07] And like, so they start realizing like, wait, are Asari just like making themselves look like the most appealing form to each of us. And they actually look completely different. And then the Turian is just like, don't ruin Asari for me. And then it created this, like this video game dark theory that the Asari don't actually look like sexy blue human like girls with like, with frills. They might actually look like way more different in their true form. And that's just something they project to everybody.

[00:22:38] Like to make themselves look appealing. The blue form is what us humans see because we are seeing through the video game what they look like. Yeah. Oh, that's also true because there's an actual level of meta there. Yeah. But like, yeah, like the Salarians, like see the more like Salarians and like the Turians see the more like Turians. And so it's like an interesting thing that like, that like, it's like, are the, are the Asari actually like subtly, like genetically manipulating the other council races? Hell yeah, they are.

[00:23:06] I mean, yeah, like there is, there is always this kind of like dark theory of mass effect where like, well, the Asari were kind of meant to be the, this, this cycles dominating species for like the Protheans kind of like groomed them or promoted their, their early species or their early iteration to basically like be the ones to step up in the next cycle. So. The Asari are basically like comparing them to, um, Star Wars.

[00:23:33] They're like the, uh, the Twi'lek, but actually interesting. Yeah. The Twi'lek, sorry, but. Like straight up, like they were originally meant like conceptually as the like sexy green aliens or the sexy, sexy different colored alien women from like Star Trek or from other, from other sci-fi. Like they were meant to be like a kind of a play on that trope. Yeah, for sure. So, but yeah, no, just back to the story. Like, yeah, I just, I, I understand like, it's like, oh, like there could be like some,

[00:24:02] it's not exactly the most practical, but it is interesting. Like as for like, um, perhaps like that's like part of like the, um, the downside to it to it is like the, like if people collab together and like start like correlating, then they can realize that something is amiss. Whereas like, it's a subtle manipulation of like, uh, where like she appears the most, um, she appears in a form that is most either appealing or, um, just like most like familial

[00:24:31] for like the situation. Yeah. So, but yeah. Um, I'll move on to the next thing I have. As we kept walking toward Jess's, I looked back toward the witch's house, but there was no sign of it. No eerie glow, no towering turret, no nothing. I shrugged it off and kept walking. What? Why? Don't get me wrong.

[00:24:59] Love the idea of the MC's lair not being there when you look back. Cause like, I love that kind of idea of like, again, for, for creepy encounters, like that's, that's fun to me. Um, I, I almost feel like I've had that encounter driving to like into town. One night, uh, myself, like where I thought there was a house as I was driving by. But then when I, uh, drove back that way during the day, I realized there was no way there could be a house there, but I swear I saw a building silhouette and some lit windows.

[00:25:29] Like on one side of the road in some brush. And like, there was even, there was even some trucks and cars on the opposite side of the road, like parked off onto the side of the road or like down in the ditch area. But when I drove back, the only sign of that, there was something there was that there was like this like dirt road in the ditch, basically that people could like drive down to, into that's super spoopy. But yeah. So like, I, yeah. So for the story, I really liked that, but like at the same time, I'm just like, uh,

[00:25:57] why are you not like, I like that, that, that, that concept. I like that, like that gimmick, but why isn't Walt more concerned? Why would he bring that up? Yeah. He just kind of like, unless it's like, again, maybe like part of his, like kind of his psycho, his psychological, like behavior is like, he just doesn't, he doesn't care. It's like, all right, whatever. Like. I wish he had his thought process then though. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Like, I think that's what it was missing for me.

[00:26:26] He was like, wait, he, uh, Ailes Wells in Durpland. Apparently it's in Durpland, Durpland County. It's possible. Yeah. God, now there's a Durpland County, Ontario. That actually explains a lot. That explains a lot. Durpland is in literally every country. Durpland, Durpland is a state of mind. Yes. A state of the mind. In this state, in this great city, in this great state.

[00:26:55] Oh, it's a police academy now. I see. Yeah. Oh, police academy. Yeah. Oh my God. Police academy takes place in the city, in a city, in the state of Durpland. Yeah. I can see that. We know what the state is now. Yeah. That makes perfect sense. Anyone lost about this, um, in the police academy, uh, movies, they never address what the city name is or what the state is in, in police academy.

[00:27:23] They just say in this fair city and this fair state, but they never, they never bring up what, where it is. Exactly. It's just sort of like a femoral. They do often show landmarks. From Toronto. Yeah. Clearly Toronto. Toronto. Yeah. No, like, like, yeah, they're like, there are like throughout like the four movies. We're going on another tangent. Yeah. Well, I found out actually like, yeah, there's some, some of those banks might actually be

[00:27:51] in the States because I was down in Indianapolis recently and they have a BMO building, like a towering BMO building. So it's like, that's kind of odd, but anyway, like, yeah, they, a lot of the, uh, like there's a lot of, of, uh, noticeable Ontario landmarks or like locations. If you're, if you're from the area. Yeah. In those movies. But apparently it's a state.

[00:28:17] Um, but anyway, again, those, those, uh, those, uh, tangent police are getting a little close to my house. Uh, I don't think they're here for trick or treating. It's kind of funny. Actually, I looked up real quick, the police Academy movies, they were shot at the former, uh, Lakeshore psychiatric hospital. Oh, that's a little ago. That, that makes a lot. Yeah. Dark theory. They were all insane. That's what I was trying to get at. Yeah. Oh my God. That's amazing. Hmm.

[00:28:44] Uh, explains, uh, that one gun nut guy and, uh, and Lassard. Yeah. Lassard. Yeah. Uh, the commandant, uh, and, um, sound effects. Man. Yep. Also, um, literally every other character. Okay. Let's move on. Let's move on. Like, yes, they're fanning. I can see them. They're fanning out. They're heading over to your house now. Oh God. All right.

[00:29:12] Um, where was I? Oh yeah. The concern of this of, uh, the fact that like, there's no, there's no witch house anymore. Um, yeah. So yeah, that's yeah. Red flag a little bit. Like that's a little weird, a little derpy that like no one, like he doesn't question that it's missing, but like, that's fine, I guess. Yeah. Especially because they just talked about how like they all saw her as someone else and like, we don't trust this person. We're throwing the candy away.

[00:29:42] And then like, that would have been another confirmation, you know, that he could have put on top of it. At least they knew to just throw the candy out too. Like they're not super derpy at this point. Cause they, they like, Oh God, this candy might be bad. Let's throw it out. Like they actually did. Didn't just keep it. Yeah. So, but I'll continue on. Uh, people were hobbling around like animals. It was as if there were, it was as if they were all hardcore role-playing as whatever their costumes were. I swear.

[00:30:12] I saw a guy dressed as a zombie eating an arm. Somehow he made it look pretty good. I wonder if this is, so this is me responding, like kind of commenting in the, in the moment as I'm reading the story is like, I wonder if this is a hint of something deeper. Like it'll be revealed. They all got some of those gummies and like, this is straight up like, or, or if this is

[00:30:37] straight up a monster mash and it's not costumes per se, but like, these are all actually real monsters just partying and they've just gone to the wrong party. Or if it's going to be like the gummy thing where like they all, all these people have eaten the gummies and they're now all turning into their costumes. And then I have an update. Yeah. As late, as later we discover that there's a bag of those gummies spotted in the house. They all seem to have some, some kind of influence on the people there.

[00:31:05] But then later further update, this story is gaslighting me. Is he gaslighting? I kind of, cause like, it's like, what are you doing? What are you saying, bro? Like nothing happened. Like we're all fine. Like you just had a freak out. But like he was straight, he was clearly seeing things that were happening. And then like, what I thought was, it was all a dream. Oh, don't get me started on that. Hang on. I'm getting there. I'm gonna get there.

[00:31:35] I'm gonna get there in my notes. But yeah, also, yes, possibly. But yeah, I'll move on to the next thing before I get to that. I suppose that's, so this is when, this is when after he's like, he's leaving the house and like sees Velma as a, like performing succubus actions and such, and her pleading for help and such.

[00:32:02] And, um, and, and, uh, Walt starts feeling actually like sorry for her, but doesn't do anything specifically. But then we get this bit quote here. I suppose that's the closest I've ever felt to empathy. Jess would have been proud. I thought smugly. I really didn't want to, I did, I really did want to help her, but I was too disgusted to touch her. I stumbled back or I stumbled back and ran to the road.

[00:32:27] So at this point in the story, like all the stuff going on aside, where the hell was Jess in all of this? Like this was, I thought supposed to be her house, like her party. Right. Was she, was she? And again, at this point, my notes are like kind of in the now. It's like, was she in on this somehow? Like, was she actually the witch and they gave them the gummies? Is she in cahoots with the witch? Like, that's why, how she got the gummies.

[00:32:55] Like, where's Jess in all of this? And then again, update. I, I'm being gaslit. But what are you though? Yeah, but I might, but also like to my point here. Yeah. Like Jess is only like mentioned at the beginning with like, like from like, I think about like the fact that she's, um, Walt's ex and, um, she, she cried with the bird thing.

[00:33:21] And then they're going to Jess's house for this party, but we never see Jess at the party. Yeah. So she pro, why would she be? She, that's like saying, I'm surprised that the villain isn't at, uh, at ground zero of the nuclear bomb that he set off. Like if she orchestrated this, no, she ain't going to be there because everyone there is being affected by whatever shenanigans are going on to cause people to morph into their costumes.

[00:33:51] Whether it's from the gummy bears or whether it's from the witches in the basement that are, that's making quote unquote, the whole place smell funny, which I'm assuming is what's doing it. Um, unless she's dressed up as like, uh, someone with a gas mask, you know, so she can cover and like not actually inhale at all. But yeah. So I'm assuming basically a lot of assumptions in this one.

[00:34:19] I mean, we have to, I'm assuming that basically because of how much she hates, um, what's his name? Walt. I've been calling him there. Yes. I know. Yeah. That like she somehow figured out some magical who had to do all this to get back at him to like show him the true monster that he actually is by turning him into the monster. Yeah. Yeah. But I, I, I kind of wish the story had a little bit more clarity on that or like a little bit more.

[00:34:47] We actually like got fat somehow in the story. Like maybe she left a message to him the next day, like kind of just like about that or something. Or if that is the case, again, this is a lot of assumptions. We all know what assuming means it makes an asset of you an umption. Yeah. But, um, cause I was like, I was wondering like, is she in on it? Is she like the mastermind? Like, was she the witch or was she, was she one of the witches downstairs? That's like basically a victim of all this as well.

[00:35:14] Cause like, I'm assuming those were also just like people costumed that have then become their costumes. Right. Well, it depends. Again, if she, uh, like contacted some, I don't know, some other universe or whatever to bring actual witches over, those could be literal witches that know like witchcraft. And are doing this to all these people. I, I think that's a bit of a stretch, especially since they bring up. All of this is a stretch. I mean, yes, you're right. You're right.

[00:35:40] But like the story specifically says, like, there's like a bag of, like he sees a bag of gummies in the house. Like that's like mostly eaten. It's like, okay. Like these people have all eaten the gummies that like that other witch did. So like, they're all becoming their costumes. Like that's sort of the, the situation here. It's a Halloween, it's a Halloween town, uh, scenario. If anybody's seen Halloween town, that old like nineties Disney movie, Disney channel movie.

[00:36:06] Um, there's like a plot point where like, uh, there's a spell cast on humans by the monster race to turn the humans into monsters and the monsters into humans. So it's, it's a similar situation. And like they, they, the humans become the mom became monsters based on the, on the Halloween costumes. They were, um, dressed as so, but yeah, um, dressed as like human, like businessmen and stuff like that to become human. They just become human. Yeah. Yeah. Basically.

[00:36:35] Um, but yeah, with the whole witches situation though, it's possible that they're down there making gummy worms in that pot. That's also true. Like that. I, I, if that's the case, I wish there would have been some more like notes about that by there. Or like, like that's, that's my big, I think my biggest pet peeve of the story is like it, it sort of doesn't take its time to establish what's going on.

[00:36:58] Like, I mean, I, I, and I generally, it's, it's, it's odd to me because I generally don't mind out of context horror. Like what's going on. Oh fuck. Like just throwing somebody into media res, throwing somebody into like a scene and not explaining shit and just having the horror build off of that. But the problem is our narrator isn't like necessarily afraid of any of this shit. He's, he's sort of detached because of his, his psychology.

[00:37:25] So it's just like, ah, like I feel like there's almost like a, um, a filter for like the actual horror of, of an out of context situation here. Is it like that situation that I've, I've brought up a few times where like, if the character isn't scared, why should I be scared? Yeah, kind of. Yeah. No, I guess that's, that is it. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah. Like that's a, that point though, he was scared enough that he ran away. Well, he, no, he wasn't scared of, of like the shit that going on.

[00:37:55] He was, he was, he was, uh, worried about getting caught for like throwing that guy down the stairs. Are you sure that's why he left? Yeah. Yeah. That's, that's why he left. Also, he wasn't feeling very well so that he left because he didn't want to bother. He didn't want to deal with that. Hmm. At least that's how I interpreted it. So like, maybe I'm wrong, but that's, that's what I got out of it was that like, he wasn't afraid of what's going on.

[00:38:20] He was, he just didn't want to get caught because that's what he's, his prioritizing getting, getting caught by authorities. But I'll, I'll move on to the next thing I have. So hang on. Okay. Cause I'm just, cause I'm reading through it. After he like knocked the guy out, I said annoyed by the inconvenience of the zombie jackass. I made my way back up to the living room. The situation was even more excessive than before.

[00:38:44] I saw a guy dressed in a cheesy, uh, frilly suit laying on the door on the floor with a guy dressed as a werewolf fighting his limp corpse. So like him seeing Dave being eaten is the reason he left. It wasn't just because he's trying to save his own ass. Yeah. Because he's like actually seeing this happen. He's like, Oh no, this is really happening. That's fair. Yeah. But again, like he's, I mean, there's a little bit of worry there, but like not enough for me.

[00:39:13] Like they had, I, this would have made, if this out of context stuff would have been more interesting or like more, more effective for me if he had been more empathetic. But unfortunately our POV is from this guy who's not very empathetic about the situation he's in. He's in. So. I guess, but still. Yeah. Basically to, to hammer the point home, he didn't leave because he's scared of the cops showing up. He left because he's seeing scary shit and he saw the gummy bears here.

[00:39:40] So he is afraid for his own well-being in life because he's seeing these people turning into the monsters and he doesn't want to do that. So he leaves and he's looking for his friends to leave as well. Fair. Yeah. So he's not as much of an asshole as you keep hammering home. Maybe, I don't know. Like maybe I was reading a little bit more into it, but like he seemed more like he was just like him, him, him, not worrying, not caring about his friends. But I will. Yeah.

[00:40:07] He is selfish and like, doesn't give two shits about most things, but yeah. Yeah. I'm not saying he's a good guy. I'm just saying he's not as much of an asshole as you're making him out to be. That's fair. I'll move on to the next thing then. I have. Oh yeah. Here's the part where I've seen the trend in two hallway stories a little bit.

[00:40:36] So who knows if or when I would get a chance to be this free again. My mind faded into a blur. Nothing was real, but the hunt. I wake up to a dastardly ringing my cell phone as I silence it. I realize I'm in my bed at home. I was alone. Don't do this to me again. Why do you tease? It's number two or number three. I think it's number three. Yeah. Where the character wakes up.

[00:41:05] Now, again, after the fact, we find out like no shit, like shit from last night both did and did not happen the way he thought it did. Like there's so like some of it didn't happen, but he did eat some people or he did. He did kill a guy and he did kill some kids and eat their body or eat some of their flesh. So. It's sort of like a quasi or like a semi dream sequence or like it was a dream moment. And I was like, oh, no, don't do that. Please.

[00:41:35] No, please. Don't do this to me again. You tease. I think it's more of a it's a hallucination that he was having. Yeah. Yeah. He's just like this is another. Yeah. And he's just succumbing to some kind of psychosis and cannibalism with cannibalistic or cannibalistic urges.

[00:41:55] Basically, how how actual Wendigos kind of seem to be portrayed in the lore where like it's not like the the the antlered like the antlered Wendigo thing is very much an Internet pop culture thing, like misconstruing of the actual like indigenous lore. Whereas actual Wendigos are much more like basically just they're just people who have who have consumed human flesh and become corrupted by that.

[00:42:25] So are they the ones from. Until Dawn. Yes. Thank you. Until Dawn is actually one of the more accurate depictions of Wendigo. OK, cool. Well, I think actually that that game's actually gotten some praise for that for it's kind of for kind of sticking closer to the the actual like indigenous lore of it. Yeah. It's quote unquote realism. Yeah. But yeah, I digress.

[00:42:53] I'll move on to my last thing I have for actual thoughts. You're kidding, right? As soon as as soon as that old lady gave us the gummies, we threw them out. Don't eat open candy. That's rule number one of Halloween. Something isn't right here. About the costume or about the costumes. You refuse to wear one. Costumes are for children and quarry. It was a weird thing to say, but you say weird shit all the time.

[00:43:21] Listen, I just got I just gave the cops your address. They're on their way. And so this is like basically when you realize like he never was wearing a costume last night. He was just kind of like so like this, like like I was like, wait, were all the events last night in Walt's head? Like people transforming into costumes. What about the witch who gave them the gummies? Was that a catalyst for all this? Was it not? Is Walt just falling into some kind of psychosis again?

[00:43:48] Like akin to like the actual Wendigo lore and such. Which I feel like I'm being gaslit as Walt here on how events shook up. Maybe that's the point of the story is like the kind of like throw you off and like it was all in his head. But he is also like succumbing to this or spiraling into this like cannibalistic psychosis. But I was still left very confused by the end of the story.

[00:44:16] Like, yeah, like his phone call with his bud explains some stuff, but not enough. Yeah, I do think it was an interesting like it's it's it's cool for me like as a hint that like, oh, he thought he was dressed up as a Wendigo costume like with the antlered thing and all that the night before. But it was he wasn't actually wearing that mask.

[00:44:38] It was in him all along like because he then like later on that night, he takes on like the persona of a Wendigo, but like he never needed the he was never actually having the costume on. He was just like basically demasking whatever he like kind of his his his persona.

[00:44:58] Yeah, so yeah, there was a mention of masks earlier on where he's saying like, at least I don't have to like pretend to put on like a quote unquote mask when around people like I can just like actually be disgusted by people. Yeah, not worry about people do that all the time with like like in social situations like we put on kind of a a mask to blend in with like with other people sometimes. Mm hmm. Like not a not not a physical mask, but like a basically like an emotional mask or a social mask.

[00:45:28] Yeah, I don't know what you're talking about. I say is the character that you frequently draw with a mask all the time. Yeah, but like, yeah, as I look to a character, the cultist who is shrouded in shadow under a cloak as we look over to the star demon. Yeah, it was Mikey. Yes. It's actually very similar to what the the therapist from from the movie The Mask was like, we all wear masks.

[00:45:58] Psychologically speaking, like that's that's kind of what that guy's talking about. It was like basically like we all wear different masks depending on the situation and social scenario we're in. So yeah, and some people are better at hiding them. They're true selves than others. So I'm great at it. Mm hmm. Anyways, we should continue.

[00:46:19] But yeah, so all in all, like kind of this is my big, I guess, harking point is like the story I feel needs more to or needs needs to like cut some stuff or like or add some things to.

[00:46:35] Maybe like have a more focused story or like, like give a more clear, like a clear point of the plot or unless this is just like how it's supposed to be to like kind of throw the show like this sort of revelation or this twist that like it was all in his head and stuff like that. I guess maybe that's like the point of like why it was being so gaslighting, but it still left me kind of confused by the end.

[00:47:01] So I did not entirely care for it with regards to that. But yeah, that's my my actual thoughts. So Mikey, these stands for evil. And let's see here. So I liked the witch that gives out the candy and like how everyone saw a different thing. Or a different witch.

[00:47:32] Yep. Yeah, because it wasn't just a different like thing. It was it was a there was a theme, but it was a different feet, a different version of that theme for everybody. Should she be called the witch witch? Oh, God, that's good. Like W-H-I-C-H-W-I-T-C-H. Yeah. Nice. Are you a good witch or a bad witch? I'm a witch witch. Both. Witch witch? Yes.

[00:48:04] Let's see. I also liked that the candy seemed to turn all the people that ate it into their costumes, which is a very classic Halloween trope. Yep. Yep. But that might have been why. Like, maybe that's why it's like I just did. I didn't want the psychological like twist. I wanted I wanted to actually be supernatural and everybody just turning in the monsters like you want to supernatural say I want. I wanted my supernatural safety blanket yet again. Mm hmm. Mm hmm.

[00:48:35] Yeah. Yeah. And. I didn't like Walt or the ending. Well, yeah, we're not supposed to really necessarily like Walt, but no, but the ending makes it so that nothing that he saw ever really happened. Except for the several deaths that he caused. That's not the night before. Yeah. It wasn't literally a it was all a dream. He actually killed those people. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:49:05] But we lose Brian as the werewolf eating his friend Dave. Yeah. Yeah. And Velma fucking the cowboy. Yeah. No, true. Like we missed it. We missed that supernaturally induced trauma on these on these youths. Mm hmm. I mean, the trauma was still there because he saw that in his mind. Yeah.

[00:49:29] And that could have been part of what, like, pushed him over the edge to, like, actually just go nuts because everyone else everyone else was too. Yeah. Yeah. And then we get the explanation that he never wore a costume. Uh, and went home early. And it turns out that he's the monster and he found out that he likes eating kids. Yeah.

[00:50:00] And I'm like, okay. Yeah. It's it. We thought we were, we thought the protagonist was a victim. Turned out he was actually the antagonist. He was a twist. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Mikey does not approve of the twist. No. The twist isn't his, isn't Mikey's favorite dance move. It's more like, uh, the Charleston. Probably. The sprinkler. Yeah. It's a good one.

[00:50:29] No, the robot. Yeah. Yeah. It takes a lot of skill to do the robot, honestly. Sorry, Mikey. We, yeah. Anyway, that's it. My actual thoughts. All right. Uh, gamer. Yeah. I don't have too much left. Um, just like a couple of the previous stories when there was like a transition from the mundane to the fantastical.

[00:50:56] I like how smooth the transition went between like, uh, the party, you know, like it was actually a pretty smooth transition. And then the transition back to, oh, it's the next morning. Yeah. Like they're the transitions that are done really quickly, but they're not, um, they're not abrupt. You know, if you know what I mean?

[00:51:26] Because like, I don't know. I don't know how, but like it, they're not jarring transitions, even though they probably should be. Okay. Okay. What? Like, no, no, I'm just like, could you explain a little bit more? I don't know why that was the thing. Okay. I would, if I could, but I can't because I don't know for some reason, just the way that Tuareg like writes his like transitions like that.

[00:51:53] They just, they flow nicely and they don't really, it's not jarring to me. It's just, oh, that's neat. Although it's getting to a point where like, I'm going to start expecting these to happen now. Yeah. No, it's always going to be, it's like, like, honestly, I'm surprised when we did auspicious, I'm like that, like thinking back, I think auspicious was like one of the few ones where it wasn't a fucking dream. Yeah. Where we didn't suddenly go like mundane and like, no, that escalated continually. Which I do prefer. Yeah.

[00:52:23] It just happens that we've been, oh, and again, like the other, actually like the last one we did, like, um, uh, the imposters, the Earl's imposter. Um, like it, it was like supernatural, then a dream, then supernatural again. Yeah. So yeah. Oh yeah. Um, yeah. My only other note is basically just like, I wake to a dastardly ringing myself. And then like, at first I was like, it was all, it's all a dream again. Fire. Yeah, no, exactly. Legitimately. Yeah.

[00:52:49] But even if that was the case, which I still don't think it is, I think it's a, um, a hallucination that he went through even regardless though, we get the confirmation of what it is real fast. It's not just like, it doesn't just leave you hanging being like, well, was it a dream? Like it does kind of confirm things, you know? Oh yeah. No, like I, I don't think it was a dream. I don't think he like, Oh, like all that was a dream. Like that. He slept. I think like, I think he did was hallucinating the last, the night before.

[00:53:19] Yeah. Um, and then woke up and then he just woke up the next day and like, at first you think everything's fine, but then it has that fake out that a lot of horror does where like, Oh, like, Oh, I'm fine. Everything's good. Why am I covered in blood? Yes. As a very quick realization that shit is not right. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Um, let's, I guess that's about it until final thoughts, I suppose. All right.

[00:53:48] Well then let's, uh, segue over to final thoughts. Everybody getting your segues. Anyways, um, so I'm not going to recommend it or at least best I could do would be a partial. Um, for me personally, just like, cause while I, I felt it, it feels, it feels very in line with stories you'd see in like a Halloween anthology series.

[00:54:14] Like think, are you afraid of the dark or goosebumps though rated R, um, or trick or treat the movie like, uh, with a, where it's like a kind of like a series of stories on Halloween night. Um, this felt very much like one of those kinds of narratives and one of those kinds of stories. And I liked portions of the story for that. Um, but it also felt very rushed to me. Like it was a little too, too, like there's a little too, there's too little, uh, in terms

[00:54:44] of like descriptions of things and details and stuff that I would have liked for this story. Um, yeah, it kind of feels like it, it's, it's slow through, um, like them just getting to the party and then shit immediately hits the fan. Just like explanation, explanation, creepiness, explanation. You wake up covered in blood. Let's go. Yeah, no, for sure. Like we get like a paragraph about like, about his like social situation. And then like, I think like within like a two or three paragraphs at the very beginning,

[00:55:13] they get the witch thing and, and fine and like see the witch stuff and all that. And then we get like a, most of the story, which is like, again, takes a little bit of its time at the party and stuff, but even that could be like play that could play out a little bit longer for my liking. Like, I feel like that could be go, that could go a little bit longer. And then yeah, it's, and then suddenly he's just like racing to the finish line at the end. Yeah, for sure. Um, yeah, that's, that's basically my biggest issue is like, and, and as a result, I'm just left wondering what's really going on on my end.

[00:55:42] Like I, I get that the ending insinuates that things were all in his head or most of it was in his head, but that he's still turning into something kind of cannibalistic monster. Um, but I feel like there, there was still more to it. Like, again, like what was like, was the witch house and the gummies? Like, were they the catalyst or were they just another hallucination of his?

[00:56:10] Like, I want to know a little bit more about what's going on with that. Why Jess wasn't at the party or wasn't ever like shown or like seen at the party with them. Um, yeah. Cause you figured that would be a big plot point because like they made a big deal about how, like, well, she probably doesn't want me to be here, but I'm going to go anyways. Cause fuck her. And then like, she's not even there. So yeah, like he's even, he's even like flirting with, with Velma to get back at her. Like I was surprised, like, like the, before he goes to the basement, like he's like looking

[00:56:37] around for Jess, doesn't see her, decides to go downstairs where like they usually hang out to see if she's down there. And then that's where she sees like the witch and all the zombie stuff and all that thing happens. Yeah. Like I'm surprised that wasn't like mentioned really in the story. He just goes down because that's where they usually hang out at the house. So, um, yeah. Yeah. Also get another, it was, uh, it was just a dream story almost. And like, I'm starting to see a trend and mind you, like we are kind of cherry picking

[00:57:06] stories from so far from to always story. Like I've just been like, Oh, like it's almost Halloween. Let's do some Halloween stories that this guy's written. So, so yes, but like hope maybe like maybe as we keep going, we'll find like it's more often than not. They aren't always just twists, but I don't mind twists. It's just, it can't be the same twist all the time. Yeah. It can't always be like, Oh, I wake up and like everything's fine, except it isn't, which yeah, it just, it's been happening a little too often.

[00:57:36] Cause yeah, it, like if it keeps happening, then the next to always story we read, if I go in there with that idea in my head, all the creepiness is potentially null and void because it like, it's making it less scary for me because I'm going to assume that some, if not all of it's going to be negated by the end of it, you know? Yeah, exactly. Um, other than that, I did like, again, some, there are things in the story, like the actual,

[00:58:03] like, again, the transformations of the people, the, the witch creature, the witch encounter was kind of interesting. I liked the, yeah, yeah, exactly. Um, I liked the, the Wendigo kind of not like, like he's, he's costumed as a, as a, as a inaccurate Wendigo, but then becomes an, a more accurate Wendigo at the end, like for reals. And so like, I liked that it was almost like, um, foreshadowing of what he was about to, what he's going to become.

[00:58:30] But like, it was also a foreshadowing of like what the whole kind of what, what the, the big plot point of the story was, was him. Like, it wasn't really about like everybody else turning into monsters. It was about him turning into a monster or already being one and just like shedding the mask of normalcy. Yes. Um, so yeah, I, I, I dug it for that. It's just, I don't know. It feels like it was a little too short for its own good and could have used some more

[00:58:59] like clarity and some more, uh, on, and more description of things going on. Like it could have like, it could have stuck around a little bit longer. It happened a little bit more time to cook wouldn't have hurt this pasta. Exactly. Yeah. It's a little too al dente for my taste, which is weird considering our title and everything. Yeah, exactly. Um, but that's, uh, that's my final thoughts and recommendations. I, I, I don't think I'll recommend it.

[00:59:26] I'd be borderline partial recommending it, but I think it needs some work. Mikey, the East stands for evil. Uh, yeah, so I was enjoying it with the, uh, like I said, the, uh, witch that was the witch, which, which, which, which, which, which, sorry, we're just going to keep doing this. Um, which bitch.

[00:59:58] Um, and then I liked. Like I said, that the, at the party, the people at the party were turning into their costumes, which is a very classic trope and it's enjoyable. Yeah. Um, but then when he wakes up and gets the phone call. That he wasn't wearing a costume.

[01:00:27] He left early. Like, and none of the supernatural things happened. Yeah. Um, in my mind, that was the, when the story just shat all over the supernatural. Well, yeah. Uh, cause again, like those kinds of stories, I, cause he does kill people in the story. Yeah. Yeah. But like, it isn't, it isn't wholly mundane and everything's fine.

[01:00:55] Like at least four people are dead. It's, it's still potentially wholly mundane, but everything is not fine. Yeah, exactly. It's as mundane as like, again, a psychosis can be. Yes. Hmm. Yeah. So with that said, I'm still not going to recommend it. Cause to me, the endings ruined the enjoyment I had earlier in the story.

[01:01:24] Oh, I mean, oh, you're all, you also don't recommend it. So you're also like, I'm, I'm, I'm being empathetic to Mikey's plight of like, he was enjoying it until he didn't like it because of the thing. I'm showing empathy. God damn it. I don't understand what that is. I connect with, uh, with Nair too much on this one. I wasn't picking up on that. No. Your mask is starting to fade there. Oh, damn.

[01:01:53] But no, uh, gamer, uh, you're up. Uh, yeah. Okay. So for me, um, like I said, when I first got to the, it was all a dream. I kind of, I rolled a little bit. Um, but through like us talking about it and thinking about it more, it's to me, at least a lot more of a. A hallucination, whether the hallucination is, um, tied to supernatural means or not. I don't know, uh, whether or not Jess was in on it.

[01:02:22] I don't know whether or not the, the witch, which was actually a witch. I don't know. I don't know. Uh, that's the biggest problem with this is I don't know a lot of things. Honestly, I'm with you so far. Like, it's like that. Cause that's my biggest, my biggest hangup is like, I don't know. Yeah. Yeah. Um, that being said, like the read itself, like went okay. It's just, and like, I, I dug the twist at the end where it's like, no, like you still

[01:02:50] became a monster of your own right. Whether he physically turned into a beast or whether he just, you know, quote unquote, mundanely did those things to children and such. Um, he's still a monster one way or another. And I kind of liked that, especially cause like it was said early on that he like just called him a monster for what he did. And then he just became one by the end. And I kind of liked that part.

[01:03:18] Um, that being said, the biggest problem with this is I want to know more. And cause like a not a lot of the said, because we don't know, but we had to make a lot of like, at least I had to try to make a lot of connections to make things make sense. There were a lot of asses. And umptions. Yes, indeed. Um, so because of that, I rethinking my recommendation, it's not a full recommendation. Um, I'll give it a partial though, because I did still enjoy it. It's just, I just think it needs more.

[01:03:47] It needs more words to like, better. Yeah, no, like honestly, I'm, I think I might bump mine to a partial and similarly just because like, yeah, that's my, honestly, you're, you're, I'm looking at a mirror and it's you for some reason. That never happened. Now I'm terrified. Now I'm terrified. Why are you my reflection? Uh, but yeah, no, like you're, you're basically just saying the same stuff. Like this, you have the same. Like thoughts that I do for the story.

[01:04:17] It's just like it, there were good parts. I just wish I knew more. Yeah. So I guess that's it. Okay. So, uh, yeah, I guess, um, one non-recommendation, one almost non-recommendation, but pretty much an, a partial and then a partial recommendation. So me partial. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Uh, so yeah, I guess that'll do it for tonight.

We're there alongside our sister podcast, One Less Die, and our cousin podcast, The Role Playing Exchange for things that go crit in the night. Until next time, I have been your host, Review Cultist.
