00:00:21 --> 00:00:27 Hello, welcome to Real Plane Exchange. Today we're going to be doing a row up for the Exorcist Codex.
00:00:27 --> 00:00:32 And this is Adam, obviously, and joining me today is my good buddy, Crazon.
00:00:32 --> 00:00:34 Crazon, how you doing, bud? I'm doing pretty good.
00:00:36 --> 00:00:41 Getting ready for the Halloween season, or is that going to date us? Yeah, well, yeah.
00:00:43 --> 00:00:46 Halloween's in like a couple days. For those of you who just listened to this
00:00:46 --> 00:00:50 on Patreon, I'll go ahead and say this right now. Thank you for being a Patreon subscriber.
00:00:51 --> 00:00:55 You will actually get it probably around Halloween day is when I'll get this uploaded.
00:00:55 --> 00:00:59 For those of you in the general feed, thanks for tuning in all the same.
00:00:59 --> 00:01:03 You're going to get this three months from October, so November,
00:01:03 --> 00:01:06 December, January. There we go. I got it down pat, Chris.
00:01:07 --> 00:01:11 So the Exorcist Codec, I want to go ahead and take a moment real quick.
00:01:11 --> 00:01:16 I would like to thank the publishers, Two Starving Noel, for providing me with
00:01:16 --> 00:01:20 a review copy of both this and the GM's guide.
00:01:20 --> 00:01:22 It was super nice of them to do so.
00:01:23 --> 00:01:29 And offhand, it's got the title of Exorcist on it, so pretty clear on what we're
00:01:29 --> 00:01:30 going to be doing here today, Chris?
00:01:30 --> 00:01:33 I think we're gonna be playing a
00:01:33 --> 00:01:37 gym rat rpg because you
00:01:37 --> 00:01:43 know exorcists right yeah they're exercising yeah in fact just exactly it and
00:01:43 --> 00:01:52 we're gonna be doing victorian era early the oh my god i is it sad that i want
00:01:52 --> 00:01:57 to play like a silly like elizabethian era gym rat game.
00:01:58 --> 00:02:02 You know i think we should do that only if you would draw characters with everybody
00:02:02 --> 00:02:09 we've had oh i mean it is yeah we're just pugilists we just punch demons out of people,
00:02:11 --> 00:02:17 well i got my character concept well i mean historically a lot of exorcisms
00:02:17 --> 00:02:23 did just involve beating people to death or or to near death to get them to
00:02:23 --> 00:02:29 beat them the demon out of them so yeah not entirely out of character for exorcists,
00:02:30 --> 00:02:34 As far as the game goes, it's built on the BRP system.
00:02:34 --> 00:02:40 So the previous month here, we actually did a roll-up for Chaosium Rivers of London.
00:02:40 --> 00:02:44 Thank you, Chaosium, again, for providing us with a review copy.
00:02:44 --> 00:02:46 This is going to be pretty much the same system.
00:02:46 --> 00:02:52 So if you guys are familiar with Call of Cthulhu or Delta Green or any of those
00:02:52 --> 00:02:55 types of games, it's the same system.
00:02:55 --> 00:02:59 So we're fairly comfortable with this. We've played several Call of Cthulhu,
00:02:59 --> 00:03:02 Delta Green games. So we're kind of good at this, but you know,
00:03:02 --> 00:03:05 there's still some differences going on here.
00:03:06 --> 00:03:09 Want to jump into the lore behind this.
00:03:10 --> 00:03:15 Yes, please, please regale the audience. Cause I mean, I totally know the lore
00:03:15 --> 00:03:18 of this place, but for the audience, let them know about the,
00:03:18 --> 00:03:24 uh, sort of the background of this, this, this series or this, this, uh, the setting.
00:03:25 --> 00:03:31 Well, guys, it, the setting is 1890 and it's, We're in a period in this world
00:03:31 --> 00:03:33 that's known as the Unseen War.
00:03:33 --> 00:03:39 It's just a secret supernatural conflict between humanity and demonic forces
00:03:39 --> 00:03:45 that have been tearing up stuff for, you know, since 2500 B.C.
00:03:45 --> 00:03:51 It's pretty much our world, our historical 1890s, but there's a hidden level
00:03:51 --> 00:03:55 of the supernatural. It's a secret world?
00:03:56 --> 00:03:59 I was wondering if you were going to make a connection to that.
00:04:02 --> 00:04:05 Cue the opening theme from the MMO, the secret world.
00:04:07 --> 00:04:13 I think it's got, I feel a lot of, what was John Constantine kind of energy on this.
00:04:13 --> 00:04:17 Stuff well there's even there's like a sort of uh inspirational or
00:04:17 --> 00:04:20 like things to like recommended like media to to
00:04:20 --> 00:04:23 to get in the in the vibe of this show or
00:04:23 --> 00:04:25 this uh of this setting like it like
00:04:25 --> 00:04:29 inspirational movies so this is on page nine i just
00:04:29 --> 00:04:32 noticed this earlier inspirational movies the exorcist obviously
00:04:32 --> 00:04:35 rosemary's baby the omen the pope's
00:04:35 --> 00:04:39 exorcist indiana jones and the ninth gate and
00:04:39 --> 00:04:42 then such tv shows and video games.
00:04:42 --> 00:04:46 Are like penny dreadful warrior nun silent
00:04:46 --> 00:04:49 hill alan wake so yeah like
00:04:49 --> 00:04:53 they they it's definitely a it's
00:04:53 --> 00:04:56 a vibe it's an atmospherical sort of
00:04:56 --> 00:04:59 like it's got a it's got a themed atmosphere to it of
00:04:59 --> 00:05:02 like it seems like kind of like turn of
00:05:02 --> 00:05:05 the century or like 18th night is it 18 i guess it'd be 19th
00:05:05 --> 00:05:08 century 19th century like pulp sort of
00:05:08 --> 00:05:11 uh aspect to it yeah with horror
00:05:11 --> 00:05:14 and it's built in on this cosmic history that
00:05:14 --> 00:05:17 kind of goes back to well i guess the book listens at
00:05:17 --> 00:05:20 prehistory there where the world was religionally dominated by
00:05:20 --> 00:05:23 demons that were led by an entity called the eternal
00:05:23 --> 00:05:27 and it just made life rough for all living beings
00:05:27 --> 00:05:33 there was a great demonic war where the divines fought against the demons and
00:05:33 --> 00:05:38 they eventually banished the eternal and forced the earth's demons to retreat.
00:05:38 --> 00:05:45 Then you have something called the age of light which is between 4 000 to 2 500.
00:05:46 --> 00:05:50 Well, I think, yeah, B.C., which is a golden era where the celestial beings
00:05:50 --> 00:05:55 shared their knowledge of humanity, advanced civilizations with technology,
00:05:55 --> 00:05:59 and is comparable basically to the late medieval period.
00:05:59 --> 00:06:02 There's the unseen war which takes
00:06:02 --> 00:06:06 place since 2500 bc to
00:06:06 --> 00:06:09 1890 or the current date
00:06:09 --> 00:06:14 of our game where the arch demons in particular bale began a subtle campaign
00:06:14 --> 00:06:19 to regain influence on earth through human cultists while erasing humanity's
00:06:19 --> 00:06:24 mystery at memory of the demonic threat you know the devil's greatest trick
00:06:24 --> 00:06:28 was showing people that making people believe they didn't exist kind of thing.
00:06:28 --> 00:06:34 And as of 1890, or sitting here, the demonic possession and supernatural phenomenon
00:06:34 --> 00:06:36 has increased at like an unprecedented rate.
00:06:37 --> 00:06:41 Cultures have infiltrated governments, businesses, and other institutions.
00:06:41 --> 00:06:47 The rise of science and industrialization has weakened traditional spiritual defenses.
00:06:47 --> 00:06:51 So kind of like a Boston Free League thing going on there.
00:06:51 --> 00:06:54 Yeah. It just seems like every, like at the turn of that, like basically during
00:06:54 --> 00:06:59 the Industrial revolution is sort of the end of the age of miracles.
00:06:59 --> 00:07:05 And because we're putting more stock into science than simple faith or than
00:07:05 --> 00:07:07 the power of faith. Yeah.
00:07:07 --> 00:07:12 And I think the most public remains unaware of the supernatural threat with
00:07:12 --> 00:07:17 incidences explained away as mental illness, hoaxes, and natural phenomenon.
00:07:18 --> 00:07:20 So our players that we're going to create today,
00:07:21 --> 00:07:25 likely but not necessary, belong to an order of some sort,
00:07:25 --> 00:07:29 which are secretive groups that are dedicated to fighting these demonic threats
00:07:29 --> 00:07:34 using fragments of ancient knowledge called, and we got a title here,
00:07:34 --> 00:07:36 guys, the Exorcist Codex.
00:07:37 --> 00:07:44 And in 1879, Pope Leo, the X-I-I-I, or I think that's 13th, if I'm not mistaken.
00:07:44 --> 00:07:48 I think so, yeah, because X is a 10. So, yeah, that would be 13.
00:07:48 --> 00:07:54 So the Pope began a campaign to recover and secure the lost knowledge,
00:07:54 --> 00:07:57 giving limited access to the Vatican's secret archives.
00:07:58 --> 00:08:03 And as far as organizations go, we got a couple of movers and shakers here.
00:08:03 --> 00:08:09 I know I'm doing a lot of talk here, but I'm just kind of finishing up the introduction summary in a way.
00:08:10 --> 00:08:13 There's the orders. They're the last line of defense against demonic forces
00:08:13 --> 00:08:16 working in secret across different religions.
00:08:17 --> 00:08:19 There's the fellowship of Baal.
00:08:19 --> 00:08:26 Which has cultists dedicated to the archdemon bell who may have infiltrated
00:08:26 --> 00:08:28 society. And then there's the Catholic church.
00:08:28 --> 00:08:35 So under the Pope, everything is in, he has intensified efforts to combat the
00:08:35 --> 00:08:38 demonic forces, including licensing more exorcists.
00:08:40 --> 00:08:45 So, I mean, I like it to where it's close enough to our own history. Yeah.
00:08:45 --> 00:08:48 It's an alternative history or alternative time period.
00:08:49 --> 00:08:53 Where again the supernatural exists or
00:08:53 --> 00:08:56 like or it's like a secret a secret society or
00:08:56 --> 00:08:59 secret secret world of the supernatural or like of
00:08:59 --> 00:09:02 of a secret war of light of
00:09:02 --> 00:09:05 light and darkness just sort of vying for
00:09:05 --> 00:09:08 human souls yeah and i i
00:09:08 --> 00:09:12 think one of the things that i really like that's mentioned
00:09:12 --> 00:09:15 in this introduction as well is i think
00:09:15 --> 00:09:18 just by looking at surface level glance
00:09:18 --> 00:09:21 of the content and the characters that you're playing and stuff
00:09:21 --> 00:09:24 like that you're i was kind of giving the
00:09:24 --> 00:09:27 impression of it was going to be an exorcism of the week kind
00:09:27 --> 00:09:29 of thing where we got to go to a certain
00:09:29 --> 00:09:34 household or a village or a hamlet or whatever you want to call and go in there
00:09:34 --> 00:09:40 and exercise the demons and upon digging into this i mean we can work on like
00:09:40 --> 00:09:46 recovering lost knowledge from the exorcist codex i would really love to do
00:09:46 --> 00:09:48 a crossover where you have to go over the.
00:09:49 --> 00:09:54 Virginia, and where, because, you know, I'm fascinated with like Roanoke and Croatoan.
00:09:54 --> 00:09:59 I would like to tie something in with that, but, you know, you have to go retrieve
00:09:59 --> 00:10:04 some of this exorcist codec that made it to the new world or the colonies.
00:10:05 --> 00:10:09 You're going to be either combating culture schemes and demonic possession.
00:10:09 --> 00:10:12 So, I mean, we can even have sessions where there's no demon at all,
00:10:12 --> 00:10:17 but there's, we're trying to root out this insidious infection.
00:10:18 --> 00:10:23 Protecting sacred sites and artifacts operating in secrecy while most of society
00:10:23 --> 00:10:30 remains skeptical of the supernatural threats so work on your 1890s opsec and
00:10:30 --> 00:10:35 you know another theme is just that there's a race against time as our demons
00:10:35 --> 00:10:37 gain more and more power over the mortal realm so,
00:10:38 --> 00:10:42 You realize you're just giving me, Lee, when you said like 1890 OPSEC,
00:10:42 --> 00:10:45 we're gaslighting by gaslight.
00:10:48 --> 00:10:51 I think we have a campaign name. I think we do.
00:10:52 --> 00:10:56 Damn it, we need to quit doing these episodes. Oh my God. If only we had enough
00:10:56 --> 00:10:58 time to run all the games that we look at. Yeah, I know.
00:10:59 --> 00:11:02 Yeah. I really want to do this one though. Gaslighting by, okay,
00:11:02 --> 00:11:03 I'm just going to, I'm going to type that.
00:11:03 --> 00:11:07 I'm going to make, if you're not going to, I'm going to make a Google doc.
00:11:07 --> 00:11:12 It's just so it's there it's it's there so it
00:11:12 --> 00:11:15 as a do you have it do you have any
00:11:15 --> 00:11:21 anything to add to this little rambling introduction i i like i'm glad you did
00:11:21 --> 00:11:24 bring it like you did kind of like give us flesh out like they were kind of
00:11:24 --> 00:11:30 like a a rough rundown of of what the what the settings like because i i went
00:11:30 --> 00:11:33 in blind i lied earlier like it wasn't for the audience it was for me.
00:11:35 --> 00:11:38 But yeah it definitely it definitely feels like it's
00:11:38 --> 00:11:41 sort of a cross between diablo and like
00:11:41 --> 00:11:44 again like demonically like some demonic thing
00:11:44 --> 00:11:49 that's trying to like the demonic legions of hell are trying to come back and
00:11:49 --> 00:11:55 they're using humanity and like like various cults and various individuals in
00:11:55 --> 00:11:59 throughout society to basically try and do that and then like the the the church
00:11:59 --> 00:12:03 or like the holy orders are basically trying to like stop them from,
00:12:03 --> 00:12:05 from making this happen. Yeah.
00:12:06 --> 00:12:08 So like, yeah, it's very, I've,
00:12:08 --> 00:12:14 I've, there's a, there's a half dozen franchise or like, or like, uh,
00:12:15 --> 00:12:19 IPs that are popping in my head that I've, I've watched or read in,
00:12:19 --> 00:12:23 in my life that like are, are swimming in my head right now based on that I
00:12:23 --> 00:12:26 could like, that I could like leech off of for like context for this.
00:12:26 --> 00:12:33 So yeah i i really do like the the setup already so i'm not gonna lie i'm probably
00:12:33 --> 00:12:38 gonna make my holy pugilist i think that's gonna happen.
00:12:40 --> 00:12:43 So, why don't we go ahead and do what we do on Row Ups.
00:12:43 --> 00:12:49 Chris, will you turn with me on the PDF to page 23, where it talks about our character?
00:12:49 --> 00:12:54 Sure, that's, sorry, what page is that? 23 in the PDF and 23 in the book.
00:12:55 --> 00:12:58 It's labeled the same as the PDF there. Yep.
00:12:58 --> 00:13:03 Okay, so part one characters. Your character is your alter ego in the game,
00:13:03 --> 00:13:06 consisting of physical and mental abilities and characteristics.
00:13:06 --> 00:13:10 Through your character, you engage in challenges, you know, kind of the rundown
00:13:10 --> 00:13:12 of what a player character is.
00:13:13 --> 00:13:18 Within the game, The Exorcist Codex, all player characters are referred to as
00:13:18 --> 00:13:24 agents due to their affiliation, whether hired, employed, or otherwise engaged in one of the orders.
00:13:25 --> 00:13:32 And, yeah, we're going to, and I like this because we've done other books, by the way,
00:13:32 --> 00:13:37 RPG books that you'll roll up a character and then you'll read some kind of
00:13:37 --> 00:13:41 text that, oh, yeah, on this page you need to do this.
00:13:41 --> 00:13:44 And then you have to reset everything because that changes everything.
00:13:45 --> 00:13:50 On midway through, on page 23, it says, before beginning the process of creating
00:13:50 --> 00:13:53 your player character, familiarize yourself with the following section.
00:13:54 --> 00:14:00 So there's professions, there's holy faith, rituals, and divine powers.
00:14:01 --> 00:14:05 Now, those are, I hadn't even prepared really that much for that.
00:14:05 --> 00:14:09 I'm actually kind of wanting to look at that, Chris. I'm looking at the page,
00:14:09 --> 00:14:15 page 51 is the, uh, it's all basically like holy or like religious professions
00:14:15 --> 00:14:18 like church licensed exorcist, demonologist, a futumashi.
00:14:19 --> 00:14:25 Order guardian, occult detective, priest, private exorcist, relic custodian,
00:14:26 --> 00:14:29 relic hunter, shaman, spirit medium, and vanguard.
00:14:30 --> 00:14:36 Okay. And then it gives you like kind of a, a single page write up and example.
00:14:37 --> 00:14:42 Of the, of each profession. And the section over the Holy Faith,
00:14:42 --> 00:14:45 Holy Faith is a measure of your character's divine and spiritual connection,
00:14:45 --> 00:14:50 influencing their capacity to perform rituals, access divine powers.
00:14:51 --> 00:14:53 Interact with divine energy, et cetera, et cetera.
00:14:53 --> 00:14:57 So it goes over this particular section, since we are going to probably have
00:14:57 --> 00:15:02 to return to this during character creation. It's not only calculating your
00:15:02 --> 00:15:06 faith, but what your faith does, right, bonus-wise.
00:15:07 --> 00:15:08 And how you can use it,
00:15:09 --> 00:15:14 So it's kind of, kind of cool there. So you can use it for, you know,
00:15:15 --> 00:15:20 obviously divination kind of things or rituals or praying or there's,
00:15:20 --> 00:15:24 there's a lot here that if, if we read through every single one of these here,
00:15:24 --> 00:15:28 it would be, we'll probably touch on two or three of these as we roll up our
00:15:28 --> 00:15:30 characters, but there's quite a bit there.
00:15:31 --> 00:15:35 And let's see, what is page 20? Let me see back on 23.
00:15:36 --> 00:15:40 Let's look at divine powers real quick. 281. I know we're just kind of glossing
00:15:40 --> 00:15:47 over these, but I'd like to have like a little bit of a kind of a feel for what
00:15:47 --> 00:15:48 I'm creating here. Yeah.
00:15:49 --> 00:15:54 So list of divine powers. All right. So, yeah.
00:15:54 --> 00:15:58 Arma, the Venya, or divine weapon, holy faith plus 10.
00:15:59 --> 00:16:04 You have a charged talisman. So, I mean, there's just tons of different abilities
00:16:04 --> 00:16:10 that you can kind of pick up here. Not tons, but there's several pages here.
00:16:10 --> 00:16:14 So we'll probably pick out, we'll probably incorporate some of these.
00:16:14 --> 00:16:15 Ooh, they're dark powers, Chris.
00:16:16 --> 00:16:19 Saw that. Oh, did you now?
00:16:20 --> 00:16:25 Also, I was looking at the different orders and there's a sisterhood from France
00:16:25 --> 00:16:28 and then there is the Templars in London.
00:16:28 --> 00:16:35 So this is getting awfully familiar from my time in the secret world. so,
00:16:36 --> 00:16:39 I like this. I don't know. I'm
00:16:39 --> 00:16:44 interested in that. It's got a lot to work with. So I might go back to 23.
00:16:45 --> 00:16:48 We know that kind of. 23 and me.
00:16:50 --> 00:16:55 I'm going to find my genealogy. So moving over to 24, character creation.
00:16:55 --> 00:16:59 So step one, we're going to establish our character's identity,
00:17:00 --> 00:17:04 details, and core attributes to build a foundation of the role.
00:17:05 --> 00:17:10 So name and gender characteristics and
00:17:10 --> 00:17:13 honestly do you want to do do you
00:17:13 --> 00:17:16 actually want to row dice or would you like there's an alternative like
00:17:16 --> 00:17:20 where you select one of the following sets of values to distribute i
00:17:20 --> 00:17:24 i am all
00:17:24 --> 00:17:28 i'm i am a fan of rolling dice i as
00:17:28 --> 00:17:30 as simple as like the alternative just like here's a here's one
00:17:30 --> 00:17:34 like three like like optional like
00:17:34 --> 00:17:38 rows of dice or of numbers i do
00:17:38 --> 00:17:45 like the idea of like rolling rolling dice so we can do that that's not a problem
00:17:45 --> 00:17:52 so alternative one again is the sets alternative two is we roll 3d6 five times
00:17:52 --> 00:17:55 and assign these scores to StrengthsCon,
00:17:56 --> 00:17:57 Dex, Pal, and Charisma.
00:17:57 --> 00:18:01 So very familiar to Call Cthulhu people there.
00:18:01 --> 00:18:09 Yep. And we row 2D6 plus 6 two times and assign that to size and int.
00:18:10 --> 00:18:13 Mm-hmm. And, yeah. So tell you what.
00:18:14 --> 00:18:18 So they don't hear us rattling off here. We're going to take a brief little break.
00:18:18 --> 00:18:23 We'll probably take a few of these with this here, And we're going to go in
00:18:23 --> 00:18:29 here and do our roles, jump back in here, and we'll give a basic rundown of
00:18:29 --> 00:18:32 our character and how they sat out.
00:18:48 --> 00:18:53 All right, and we're back, and, well, boy, did we roll, Chris. Yeah.
00:18:54 --> 00:19:00 I was doing pretty good there. I want to admit to you all, we mentioned beforehand
00:19:00 --> 00:19:05 the creation of this, mentioned you wrote 3D6 five times, so I started multiplying all my 3D6 by five.
00:19:06 --> 00:19:09 And I was like, man, I'm burning this up. I'm like, oh, man,
00:19:09 --> 00:19:13 I got like 11s and 10s is my highest, or 17 is my highest.
00:19:13 --> 00:19:16 And then you got 70. I was like, Adam, I think you're doing this wrong.
00:19:19 --> 00:19:22 So it's before i go any further into
00:19:22 --> 00:19:25 this character i just want to say that there was
00:19:25 --> 00:19:28 one particular row where i did row a five and
00:19:28 --> 00:19:32 i was like man we should just re-row like give one free re-row and all that
00:19:32 --> 00:19:35 and then you're like nope i'm keeping mine like you know what i will too but
00:19:35 --> 00:19:40 having like low stats like this actually seems to give you a lot of decent fodder
00:19:40 --> 00:19:44 for you know what your character is and what they've been through and stuff
00:19:44 --> 00:19:46 like that It could be a plus.
00:19:47 --> 00:19:50 So, hmm, I have created...
00:19:52 --> 00:19:57 Sixten Olsen, so it's S-I-X-T-E-N Olsen. I'm saying he is of Swedish descent.
00:19:58 --> 00:20:04 And my stats. Well, here's my dump right now.
00:20:05 --> 00:20:11 So I wrote, my dump stats are, my strength is six, so not so strong.
00:20:11 --> 00:20:16 His con is eight, so low side of average, I guess you could say.
00:20:16 --> 00:20:22 And his dex is five, so definitely something's happened that's interfered with their mobility.
00:20:22 --> 00:20:25 So I don't necessarily think I'm going to be a Tomb Raider or anything like that.
00:20:26 --> 00:20:30 But on the plus size, my charisma is 17.
00:20:30 --> 00:20:33 So very charismatic person.
00:20:34 --> 00:20:37 And my pal is 13.
00:20:37 --> 00:20:43 So I assumed that, you know, that seemed like a good kind of trade-off for me. What did you create?
00:20:44 --> 00:20:49 I created Hayward Ashworth III.
00:20:51 --> 00:20:54 And he's i've gone with the profession the guardian
00:20:54 --> 00:20:57 because i again well earlier you
00:20:57 --> 00:21:00 probably heard that i wanted to try and go for like a pugilist like
00:21:00 --> 00:21:04 character so i got a strength
00:21:04 --> 00:21:07 of 11 a con of 10 a dex
00:21:07 --> 00:21:11 of 11 a pow of 7 a
00:21:11 --> 00:21:14 charisma of 4 a size of
00:21:14 --> 00:21:18 17 and intelligence of nine yeah so
00:21:18 --> 00:21:23 i have already put in my appearance bald horrible
00:21:23 --> 00:21:30 hatchet scarring across face with some burns yeah but yeah still has still has
00:21:30 --> 00:21:37 a handlebar mustache but it doesn't it does nothing to compensate for the the
00:21:37 --> 00:21:43 horrible scarring my characters have been inflicted with from his 27 years of life.
00:21:45 --> 00:21:48 I've already decided like the age and such. At this point, I'm kind of going
00:21:48 --> 00:21:52 for the price from England somewhere, but.
00:21:53 --> 00:21:56 Yeah so yeah the character is quite
00:21:56 --> 00:22:05 strong quite big maybe not so not so not as not as smart but also well not not
00:22:05 --> 00:22:11 terribly not terribly dumb like nine's not bad but definitely hideous if i had
00:22:11 --> 00:22:16 to guess what four is on that richter scale of uh of uh attributes,
00:22:18 --> 00:22:23 my charm times five for example is in fact 20 percent so.
00:22:25 --> 00:22:28 Well, I, you know, I was kind of thinking that you needed somebody to gaslight
00:22:28 --> 00:22:31 somebody and I think charisma would be the one to do that.
00:22:31 --> 00:22:34 So that's why I made mine like a near perfect score.
00:22:34 --> 00:22:36 We got a gaslight by gaslight.
00:22:37 --> 00:22:40 Indeed. We got to always be gaslighting by gaslight.
00:22:42 --> 00:22:46 I don't think I mentioned this and we're going to get into the background a
00:22:46 --> 00:22:50 little bit later on here, but I didn't mention this profession,
00:22:50 --> 00:22:55 but currently working with like a priest. that I'm thinking that an exorcism went wrong.
00:22:56 --> 00:23:00 And so, you know, like in the end of the exorcist movie, you know,
00:23:00 --> 00:23:04 you need a young one and an old one. And an old priest and a young priest, yes.
00:23:05 --> 00:23:10 I tell you what I want to briefly mention that I do enjoy the fact that Two
00:23:10 --> 00:23:14 Server Knows also had a form-fillable character on our sheet on our website.
00:23:14 --> 00:23:21 We are using it, and it did a nice job of just adding over all of our scores.
00:23:21 --> 00:23:26 It did all the multiplication by five. So we didn't have to fill out and do any math.
00:23:27 --> 00:23:30 We kind of mentioned this. We jumped ahead just a tad bit.
00:23:30 --> 00:23:35 This is going to take us to page 26 in the book where we're looking at the professions.
00:23:35 --> 00:23:38 We briefly, we picked them out, but I want to kind of refer to this and we're
00:23:38 --> 00:23:41 going to move forward as we follow the rules as listed here.
00:23:42 --> 00:23:49 So refer to professionless, which we did for a desired profession, priest and protector.
00:23:49 --> 00:23:53 Each profession includes a description, a professional special.
00:23:54 --> 00:23:58 I fucked up earlier. Sorry, my bad. It was Vanguard, not Guardian.
00:23:59 --> 00:24:00 Oh, Vanguard. My apologies.
00:24:01 --> 00:24:06 No, you saying that woke me up from what I had said earlier. So, yeah.
00:24:07 --> 00:24:12 So, I think we should probably take a moment here to go over our professions.
00:24:12 --> 00:24:13 Just a tad bit more in detail.
00:24:14 --> 00:24:18 Because with this, we get skills that we can go ahead and add in there.
00:24:18 --> 00:24:24 A holy faith factor, and a purchase role modifier or sorting equipment.
00:24:25 --> 00:24:31 And, you know, that's also, you know, we'll get into that. So let's go to 51
00:24:31 --> 00:24:33 real quick around. I think mine was like 58.
00:24:33 --> 00:24:38 I have something to say that only people who have listened to our previous Urban
00:24:38 --> 00:24:40 Shadows roll up will get.
00:24:40 --> 00:24:46 If we didn't go, if Gaslighting by Gaslight wasn't so goddamn good as a title.
00:24:47 --> 00:24:50 And if it was just our characters, because I assume like we'll probably have
00:24:50 --> 00:24:52 some other players in this game at some point.
00:24:52 --> 00:24:56 But if it had just been us, because you're going with a priest,
00:24:56 --> 00:24:58 right? And I'm going with the Vanguard.
00:24:58 --> 00:25:00 We could have been faith and faithless.
00:25:02 --> 00:25:07 Because I have no, I have zero, uh, zero holy faith in my, uh,
00:25:07 --> 00:25:11 as the Vanguard or like zero holy faith factor. So.
00:25:12 --> 00:25:15 Well, you like naming your rep, each session, a different title.
00:25:15 --> 00:25:18 So it can be a session title. Yeah, exactly. That's definitely.
00:25:19 --> 00:25:20 Yep. Where we meet up.
00:25:22 --> 00:25:25 I'm going to go ahead and grab the bull by the horns here. I think priest is
00:25:25 --> 00:25:29 pretty much self-explanatory, but I would like to kind of mention a couple of the big perks here.
00:25:30 --> 00:25:33 So your primary duty is to guide, protect, and strengthen those around you,
00:25:33 --> 00:25:38 bring in comfort and wisdom to your community and allies with a foundation in
00:25:38 --> 00:25:40 academic knowledge and religious ceremonies.
00:25:40 --> 00:25:47 You provide a spiritual insight and support, serving a saithian presence in all times of crisis.
00:25:48 --> 00:25:51 Beyond the walls of the church, you venture into the world where your role extends
00:25:51 --> 00:25:55 to offering counsel and clarity to those facing challenges.
00:25:55 --> 00:25:59 Orders seek out priests for their ability to enhance the team's effectiveness
00:25:59 --> 00:26:01 through grounded perspective and resilience.
00:26:02 --> 00:26:06 Your presence provides teams with a unique combination of scholarly knowledge
00:26:06 --> 00:26:09 and spiritual assurance, allowing them to tackle complex situations.
00:26:09 --> 00:26:13 So with this background, I'm going to get a couple of modifiers.
00:26:13 --> 00:26:16 I get Holy Faith Factor at one.
00:26:16 --> 00:26:20 My background row will be
00:26:20 --> 00:26:22 3d6 plus 2 so when we get to that
00:26:22 --> 00:26:26 particular portion of it and my purchase
00:26:26 --> 00:26:29 row modifier so i guess i do have a little bit of extra
00:26:29 --> 00:26:33 funds i get a five percent increase on that my
00:26:33 --> 00:26:40 starting gear is going to be a basic exorcism kit basic charge talisman and
00:26:40 --> 00:26:46 cleric robes there are some special abilities i get the ability of divine grace
00:26:46 --> 00:26:53 Holy face and prerequisites of all divine powers are reduced by your codex or value.
00:26:53 --> 00:26:58 Additionally, both knowledge, theology, and etiquette, religious and other hierarchies
00:26:58 --> 00:27:06 are considered codex skills for a priest that are marked with a little cross emblem on the name.
00:27:06 --> 00:27:11 My profession skills, again, etiquette, otherworldly beings, etiquette, religion.
00:27:12 --> 00:27:14 Orders and hierarchies, knowledge
00:27:14 --> 00:27:19 of divine and celestial, knowledge of theology, language, any codex.
00:27:19 --> 00:27:25 It says mystic sense, research, sacred rites, spiritual support, and teach.
00:27:25 --> 00:27:29 I do get some restrictions and benefits as well.
00:27:29 --> 00:27:33 I must devote a substantial part of each day to prayer and meditation.
00:27:33 --> 00:27:39 As you're packing me around on your back like a Mad Max character, I can be praying.
00:27:39 --> 00:27:45 And my benefits are usually granted access to private homes in restricted areas
00:27:45 --> 00:27:50 like crime scenes, prisons, morgues without question, trusted for their discretion,
00:27:51 --> 00:27:52 and Rowan providing counsel and comfort.
00:27:53 --> 00:27:57 So that is Sixten Olsen's career.
00:27:58 --> 00:28:03 How about Punchy Mitt Burnt Face? Yeah, Ashworth, which is, I guess,
00:28:03 --> 00:28:06 Ashworth has definitely got his name because he's, again, burnt up.
00:28:06 --> 00:28:10 Um, yeah, Hayward is going to go with the Vanguard.
00:28:10 --> 00:28:15 So as a Vanguard, uh, you are the essential muscle hired to provide steadfast
00:28:15 --> 00:28:17 protection in high-risk situations.
00:28:18 --> 00:28:21 Known for your strength, reliability, and combat skills, you safeguard agents
00:28:21 --> 00:28:25 who confront hidden dangers, serving as both bodyguard and frontline defender.
00:28:26 --> 00:28:31 Orders frequently hire you to accompany teams on missions, trusting your tactical
00:28:31 --> 00:28:36 awareness and combat expertise to shield others from harm.
00:28:36 --> 00:28:42 Though you may not share their beliefs, your presence ensures that those investigating
00:28:42 --> 00:28:46 the unknown can do so with a crucial layer of security,
00:28:46 --> 00:28:50 allowing them to focus on their tasks without fear of their safety,
00:28:51 --> 00:28:52 or without fear for their safety.
00:28:53 --> 00:28:57 And as I said earlier, for modifiers, my holy faith factor is a zero.
00:28:58 --> 00:29:04 So I may, I'm not much of a believer or not much of a, I don't put much stock
00:29:04 --> 00:29:06 apparently in the spirituals more than the physical.
00:29:08 --> 00:29:11 But, and then, yeah, there's a background roll, but we'll get to that soon.
00:29:11 --> 00:29:15 A purchase roll modifier of plus 10%.
00:29:16 --> 00:29:19 My starting gear and equipment. I have urban expedition gear,
00:29:19 --> 00:29:23 a first aid kit, probably for all the fights I get into.
00:29:25 --> 00:29:29 Binoculars, handgun of my choice, which I went with a large handgun or a large revolver.
00:29:30 --> 00:29:34 And then a melee weapon of my choice. And I went with brass knucks because adopting
00:29:34 --> 00:29:36 that, I'm going with that whole pugilist thing.
00:29:36 --> 00:29:43 So yeah restrictions and benefits so for my restrictions must always prioritize
00:29:43 --> 00:29:45 the safety of those under my protection
00:29:45 --> 00:29:49 even at great personal risk this character is going to live long,
00:29:51 --> 00:29:54 benefits can easily obtain weapons and
00:29:54 --> 00:29:57 permits virtually anywhere ensuring they
00:29:57 --> 00:30:03 are well equipped for any situation oh that's good special ability is guardian
00:30:03 --> 00:30:07 angel so kind of similar to the whole restriction thing of like prioritizing
00:30:07 --> 00:30:13 my those under my protection on a successful destiny role you may take damage
00:30:13 --> 00:30:15 intended for another character i.e.
00:30:15 --> 00:30:22 Jumping in front of the bullet or taking a hit from a knife you know and all i could think of is.
00:30:25 --> 00:30:28 Uh what was the character's name mr olson get down,
00:30:29 --> 00:30:33 they're trying to kill you get down get down again,
00:30:34 --> 00:30:38 wow but yeah I gotta
00:30:38 --> 00:30:42 say you probably need to do this too on your character sheet because I do like
00:30:42 --> 00:30:47 this so on the form fillable if you actually do like ctrl f and type in like
00:30:47 --> 00:30:53 holy if there's any modifiers there or your purchase modifier is clearly marked
00:30:53 --> 00:30:57 on the character sheet which is about three pages by the way guys but so So, well,
00:30:58 --> 00:31:02 to be fair, the, to be fair, the third page is just like an equipment sheet.
00:31:02 --> 00:31:07 So yeah, it's not, it's not super superfluous. So.
00:31:08 --> 00:31:13 What were you going with? Sorry. Oh, I was just saying, I like that.
00:31:13 --> 00:31:16 It's easy to add these things in there. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
00:31:17 --> 00:31:22 Oh, yeah. So back to the guardian angel aspect. So, yeah, this role must be
00:31:22 --> 00:31:24 made before the damage is determined.
00:31:25 --> 00:31:29 Such an action is rewarded with two experience marks, see page 144,
00:31:29 --> 00:31:32 on any physical or combat skills.
00:31:32 --> 00:31:37 So I guess it, it, it comes in handy for like, basically I'm taking damage,
00:31:38 --> 00:31:41 but I, uh, I'll get some experience for like when it comes to like physical
00:31:41 --> 00:31:42 and combat prowess and such.
00:31:42 --> 00:31:47 And then professional skills of the, of the Vanguard is brawl,
00:31:47 --> 00:31:50 command, drive, horse drawn.
00:31:51 --> 00:31:55 Firearm, a handgun or rifle, melee weapon, a knife or club, well,
00:31:56 --> 00:32:02 or brass knucks, spot, stealth, strategy, toughness, and track.
00:32:02 --> 00:32:06 So at least there's going to be a toughness skill that I can like bump beef
00:32:06 --> 00:32:08 up to make myself a bit durable.
00:32:09 --> 00:32:13 Yeah, that's, that's the Vanguard. And that is, that is what Hayward Ashworth,
00:32:13 --> 00:32:15 the third is, is going to be about.
00:32:15 --> 00:32:21 I'm sure we'll get a Hayward Ashworth, the fourth, but point down the road.
00:32:22 --> 00:32:24 You're going to be in a party with other people, man. It'd be fine.
00:32:26 --> 00:32:30 You know, as I talk about the character sheet, which I am falling in love with, by the way,
00:32:30 --> 00:32:35 On page 26, it also, as you're going through the step three for professions,
00:32:35 --> 00:32:38 it mentions like what the purchase role modifier does.
00:32:38 --> 00:32:43 Oh, good. It also mentions where you actually are going to put your profession special.
00:32:43 --> 00:32:47 It refers to the character sheet page number two, and then certain equipment,
00:32:47 --> 00:32:49 pages two and three. So that's kind of nice.
00:32:50 --> 00:32:54 I really like how it's laid out. I usually, when it gets beyond two pages or
00:32:54 --> 00:32:58 really one page, because I'm more of a PBTA Of course, if you think about those
00:32:58 --> 00:33:01 pages are kind of loaded too,
00:33:01 --> 00:33:04 you know, they, they, it kind of turns me off, but as this goes right here,
00:33:05 --> 00:33:08 like everything's laid out super nice. Yeah.
00:33:09 --> 00:33:13 We're going to be doing step four now that is skills. Now, skills are,
00:33:13 --> 00:33:18 we're going to set and allocate skills to define your character's abilities and expertise.
00:33:18 --> 00:33:21 You'll divide skill points between professional and personal skills,
00:33:22 --> 00:33:25 giving your character's unique balance of strengths.
00:33:25 --> 00:33:31 So as far as professional skills points, as I am reading this from the book, by the way,
00:33:32 --> 00:33:38 page 26 toward the bottom, you'll find a list of professional skills in the
00:33:38 --> 00:33:40 Selected Professionist description, which it did mention those.
00:33:41 --> 00:33:48 Allocate 250 points to these skills, ensuring no single skill stat starts above 75%.
00:33:48 --> 00:33:54 The codex skills listed in the Selected Profession are the only codex skills
00:33:54 --> 00:33:56 available to your character.
00:33:56 --> 00:34:03 The number of codex skills you select determines your codex lore value, which is step 10.
00:34:03 --> 00:34:07 It is strongly recommended you invest in multiple codex skills.
00:34:07 --> 00:34:10 Each one contributes to a higher codex lore.
00:34:11 --> 00:34:17 Now, personal skill points, you multiply your int by 10 to find your personal skill point pool.
00:34:18 --> 00:34:25 For additional skills, and you spend these skills on points that are all non-codec skills you like.
00:34:25 --> 00:34:29 With your Game Master's approval, add points spent to the skill,
00:34:30 --> 00:34:36 excuse me, add points spent on a skill to its base chance and professional skill
00:34:36 --> 00:34:38 point allocations. No skill, again, is above 75.
00:34:39 --> 00:34:47 There is a cap of 50% per personal skills that range too far outside the character's profession.
00:34:47 --> 00:34:54 So I can't be a forger sniper. And there are special rules for applying learning
00:34:54 --> 00:34:58 codec skills outside those provided by your selected profession.
00:34:58 --> 00:35:03 To gain additional codec skills, you may need to seek training and other expertise
00:35:03 --> 00:35:09 in those skills or acquire them through significant game experiences.
00:35:10 --> 00:35:14 So yeah, you get to further your skills up. So it looks like we're going to
00:35:14 --> 00:35:16 be doing a little bit of math game.
00:35:17 --> 00:35:20 And that looks like it's time for another break.
00:35:20 --> 00:35:26 Does that sound about right for you, Chris? After these messages, we'll be right back.
00:35:58 --> 00:36:06 We're back. Back again. Well, I mean, this was a whole lot easier than I thought it would be.
00:36:07 --> 00:36:11 We divvied up our points. So again, we did our professional points,
00:36:11 --> 00:36:14 which, I mean, we threw some numbers in here.
00:36:14 --> 00:36:20 I'm trying to think if anything kind of went a little off as I thought,
00:36:20 --> 00:36:25 but it seemed like the skills, dividing the 250 up between everything that I get as a priest.
00:36:25 --> 00:36:31 It seems like I had to spread that 250 kind of thin, but I managed to get a
00:36:31 --> 00:36:33 little bit of something in everything.
00:36:33 --> 00:36:36 And then, you know, I was able to tweak it and then, you know,
00:36:36 --> 00:36:41 I may end up tweaking a bit further later on, but I did make sure that I bumped
00:36:41 --> 00:36:45 up some of my priestly stuff like etiquette, religious, like, you know,
00:36:46 --> 00:36:51 kind of stuck with my other worldly beings at 10 and just kind of bounced around
00:36:51 --> 00:36:54 with, with this stuff here, physical stuff.
00:36:54 --> 00:36:57 I did put like 15 in it, so it was a times 10.
00:36:57 --> 00:37:02 Anyway, my aunt, my aunt times 10, and I had 150 points.
00:37:02 --> 00:37:07 And honestly, I just kind of spread everything out between personal skills,
00:37:07 --> 00:37:11 talking, and then perception and a few mental things.
00:37:12 --> 00:37:15 You know, to be honest with you, I thought I may be doing this kind of long,
00:37:15 --> 00:37:19 but on to starving those website, they have character sheets that have been
00:37:19 --> 00:37:22 pre-generated and they've been putting out one every week or so.
00:37:22 --> 00:37:25 They haven't got to the priest yet, but I looked at a couple of the other character
00:37:25 --> 00:37:28 sheets that the creators had and they were pretty nice.
00:37:28 --> 00:37:32 And I mean, none of these are, I didn't have anything above 50 anywhere.
00:37:33 --> 00:37:36 Mainly my highest ones are typically 40 and, you know, we're kind of starting
00:37:36 --> 00:37:37 out and you level up anyway.
00:37:38 --> 00:37:41 Yeah. Do you have any, uh, any thoughts on it? Uh, yeah.
00:37:41 --> 00:37:47 So i mean well i really only had like a hand like the i chose what the i went
00:37:47 --> 00:37:51 with the professional or the profession skills that they gave me so like command
00:37:51 --> 00:37:55 of 40 and i'm using like the bait i'm kind of like added on to the base stuff
00:37:55 --> 00:37:59 so like i did give myself a pretty high first aid.
00:38:00 --> 00:38:03 Because i figure my character's probably used to patching himself
00:38:03 --> 00:38:07 up given how many scars and how fugly he looks i
00:38:07 --> 00:38:10 restrained from giving my care so the character has spot
00:38:10 --> 00:38:13 and sense like basically sensing his surroundings and
00:38:13 --> 00:38:16 like and and like a good visual like sensory
00:38:16 --> 00:38:19 but like i refuse to give my character like any additional
00:38:19 --> 00:38:22 things from base for listen because of like
00:38:22 --> 00:38:24 again i'm wanting to have this character be like kind of like a fighter so like
00:38:24 --> 00:38:31 he's got some kind of like maybe some ear damage as a result of that yeah otherwise
00:38:31 --> 00:38:36 i gave the character some climb dodge drive horse ridden just at like kind of
00:38:36 --> 00:38:42 like pretty decent values about like about uh anywhere between like 45 and 30 to 50.
00:38:42 --> 00:38:48 I had to give my character Heavy Machinery, specifically Crane.
00:38:48 --> 00:38:53 Who knows if that'll ever come up, but Heavy Machinery, it's a BRPG system like
00:38:53 --> 00:38:56 Call of Cthulhu and Delta Green.
00:38:57 --> 00:39:06 And as we know, as fans of RPPR and Caleb Stokes, Heavy Machinery is vital for every scenario.
00:39:07 --> 00:39:12 Indeed. So I gave my character specifically a little boost. Not,
00:39:12 --> 00:39:17 not, not a lot, like 21% in, in heavy machinery use of cranes.
00:39:17 --> 00:39:22 Like, so we'll, I, I expect there to be a, a, a large like industrial crane in every scenario.
00:39:23 --> 00:39:25 I mean, they got to work on that. I will riot.
00:39:26 --> 00:39:29 Exactly. I will riot if I don't get an opportunity to use crane.
00:39:31 --> 00:39:35 And then also I gave myself grapple and like maxed out my, my brawl.
00:39:35 --> 00:39:39 Cause I'm going with like a fighter kind of type character. So. Yeah.
00:39:39 --> 00:39:43 But other than that, yeah, it was basically the, uh, characters pretty like
00:39:43 --> 00:39:49 with, with the skills I was given as like what this, this profession archetype is supposed to have.
00:39:49 --> 00:39:53 And like, then with some like extra personal skills, like I,
00:39:53 --> 00:39:56 I went pretty just well-rounded, I think.
00:39:57 --> 00:39:59 Yeah. For the, for the allocation. So.
00:40:00 --> 00:40:03 I mean, honestly with myself, I, and I think you've kind of did the same,
00:40:04 --> 00:40:08 you recommended that I do it of the 10 professional skills I had,
00:40:08 --> 00:40:13 I just threw 25 into everything. and as I kind of whittled them around, you know.
00:40:13 --> 00:40:17 Yeah, just fudged the numbers. And then if our characters do end up in a session
00:40:17 --> 00:40:20 together, like it'll be kind of a nice like twist because like you'll be the
00:40:20 --> 00:40:25 talkie, like you'll be the charismatic preacher and I'll be the big strong man behind you.
00:40:26 --> 00:40:33 My wheelchair, you push me around and you have a... No, you'll be on my back, like on my shoulders.
00:40:33 --> 00:40:36 You'll be, again, you're master, I'm blastered.
00:40:37 --> 00:40:40 Welcome to a barter town a barter
00:40:40 --> 00:40:43 town all right man looks like we're at step five
00:40:43 --> 00:40:46 so this is where we're getting to the background so we're going to do this one
00:40:46 --> 00:40:53 live on the air here well live live fucking we'll do it live so step five on
00:40:53 --> 00:40:57 page 26 still says select the background add depth to your character's history
00:40:57 --> 00:41:02 and abilities your background provides bonuses and modifiers that shape your character.
00:41:02 --> 00:41:08 Refer to the background row table on page 64 and row dice indicated for your
00:41:08 --> 00:41:11 profession to determine your background.
00:41:11 --> 00:41:17 Each background includes description, bonus skills, purchase role modifier, and holy faith factor.
00:41:18 --> 00:41:23 And a few little addendums here, you know, add the background bonus skills to
00:41:23 --> 00:41:25 your character sheet. Max is 75.
00:41:26 --> 00:41:31 Add background purchase role modifier to the purchase role modifier on the character
00:41:31 --> 00:41:36 sheet and add the holy faith factor to the section on the character sheet.
00:41:36 --> 00:41:38 So let's go ahead and look at page 64.
00:41:39 --> 00:41:43 I'm really curious how this is going to pan out with my character on a roll.
00:41:44 --> 00:41:52 So yeah, the backgrounds that we are given, and they each have a page allocation to them.
00:41:52 --> 00:41:58 But in terms of the background names or the names for these backgrounds, We have urban atheist,
00:41:59 --> 00:42:09 skeptical academic, raised by nobles, skeptical analyst, rural resident, philosopher.
00:42:10 --> 00:42:15 Artistic upbringing, naturalist, cultural guardian, humanitarian.
00:42:17 --> 00:42:20 Astrological enthusiast, unyielding visionary,
00:42:21 --> 00:42:28 reformed cultist, restless seeker, faithful artisan, altruistic upbringing,
00:42:29 --> 00:42:32 devout convert, religious apprentice,
00:42:33 --> 00:42:37 raised by religious fanatics, and clerical orphan.
00:42:37 --> 00:42:44 So those are the 20 backgrounds that are provided that we get to roll a die 20 off for. Yeah.
00:42:46 --> 00:42:50 And it says there's also a bonus on your character sheet. So if you look at
00:42:50 --> 00:42:52 it. Yes. For a profession.
00:42:53 --> 00:42:57 I'm just trying to figure this out too. Oh, so are you talking about the profession purchase?
00:42:58 --> 00:43:02 No, I thought there was something else here. Hold on. Scrolling down.
00:43:03 --> 00:43:10 Okay. So it also mentions. Oh, yeah. background row 3d6 plus 2 is what mine
00:43:10 --> 00:43:11 says. Oh, so that's for you.
00:43:11 --> 00:43:13 That's what yours says. Okay, because I just have a flat D20.
00:43:14 --> 00:43:18 What does yours say? Mine just has a flat D20. Under the modifier?
00:43:18 --> 00:43:21 No, no. So for the background roll D20.
00:43:22 --> 00:43:25 That's what I'm trying to figure out here. So yeah,
00:43:25 --> 00:43:31 I think, I believe the background roll, like that's like what you're supposed to roll.
00:43:32 --> 00:43:36 That is interesting. Yeah, yours is D20 and mine's 3D6 plus two.
00:43:36 --> 00:43:41 Okay, we're going back. Let's go back up to 53 or 50, sorry,
00:43:41 --> 00:43:42 52, which I think is where the.
00:43:43 --> 00:43:46 Your page, Vanguard's on 63. Let's go to.
00:43:47 --> 00:43:50 Hang on. Where is this thing? That's weird. It doesn't show.
00:43:50 --> 00:43:53 Because like on page 51 there's a bunch of information about
00:43:53 --> 00:43:56 like what you're what it means when it says like starting gear and
00:43:56 --> 00:43:59 like profession specials and all that stuff but it doesn't say anything for the
00:43:59 --> 00:44:04 profession for the background role so
00:44:04 --> 00:44:08 weird that's just
00:44:08 --> 00:44:13 because like a d12 like a max on a d12 plus four or like for you it's a priest
00:44:13 --> 00:44:21 a three die six plus two that's going to be 12 20 well that's a 20 and then
00:44:21 --> 00:44:25 oh maybe okay maybe oh d12 you know so they all.
00:44:26 --> 00:44:31 That's so dumb why are they all like they're all are they all just different
00:44:31 --> 00:44:38 ways of rolling a 20 like rolling from an option of 20 yeah one's a d10 plus
00:44:38 --> 00:44:41 10 for one and relic study i thought Oh.
00:44:42 --> 00:44:45 One's a D12 for the Occult Detective. Yeah.
00:44:46 --> 00:44:48 So for that one, you can only get...
00:44:49 --> 00:44:54 Like just about, just over half of the options. If you roll that one.
00:44:54 --> 00:44:57 Let's take a look at this here, because I mean, it's a little atypical,
00:44:58 --> 00:45:00 but I'm up for trying it. It's peculiar.
00:45:00 --> 00:45:05 You say the least. 64 is the age. So I'm going to get this, go to the 64 again,
00:45:05 --> 00:45:09 and I'm going to roll my 3d6 plus two and see what I get.
00:45:09 --> 00:45:12 Oh, I guess, I guess it makes sense. Like, because what was it? D12.
00:45:13 --> 00:45:17 So like they can't get reformed cultist, restless seeker, faithful artisan,
00:45:17 --> 00:45:23 altruistic upbringing, devote, convert, religious apprentice, raised by.
00:45:23 --> 00:45:28 So maybe, maybe those ones are like the more like religious versus like the
00:45:28 --> 00:45:30 more academic side of things. Yeah.
00:45:31 --> 00:45:34 Yeah. It's just interesting that the, they don't, they won't let the occult
00:45:34 --> 00:45:37 detective have a religious upbringing.
00:45:37 --> 00:45:44 Yeah. It's, it's clever. I like it. In the beginning I was kind of thrown off, but so.
00:45:44 --> 00:45:46 All right, Chris, it's time to roll.
00:45:46 --> 00:45:53 Also i love i do look in in faithful like 19th century noir the detective is
00:45:53 --> 00:45:58 not allowed an altruistic upbringing it's got to be a dirty world for the for
00:45:58 --> 00:46:05 the detective always and forever all right so you got a 16 yeah it's just funny you mentioned.
00:46:06 --> 00:46:14 I have an altruistic upbringing yep and see see page 65 for details on the on
00:46:14 --> 00:46:19 that on that background so what is yours sir uh let's find out let's give me
00:46:19 --> 00:46:21 self-enrolling i've got the one,
00:46:21 --> 00:46:30 next to yours uh 17 so devout convert wait yeah you found god in a pool of your
00:46:30 --> 00:46:36 own blood in a box of man i don't have any faith unless unless this this background gives me faith but.
00:46:37 --> 00:46:41 Okay, so this gives me a 0.5 holy faith factor.
00:46:42 --> 00:46:46 And it decreases my purchase roll modifier by minus five.
00:46:47 --> 00:46:52 So regarding that, like, purchase roll modifier that we see in the profession
00:46:52 --> 00:46:55 stats or, like, the profession options and such,
00:46:55 --> 00:47:01 that basically dictates, like, what you can afford or what you can purchase
00:47:01 --> 00:47:03 in terms of, like, gear and stuff.
00:47:03 --> 00:47:08 So, and then, so yeah. So, yeah, I guess, do you want to go with yours or describe
00:47:08 --> 00:47:10 your altruistic upbringing?
00:47:10 --> 00:47:14 I was raised in an environment that emphasized compassion, empathy,
00:47:14 --> 00:47:15 and the importance of helping others.
00:47:16 --> 00:47:21 Whether it was a family dedicated to charitable work, religious community focused on service,
00:47:21 --> 00:47:25 or a close-knit group of friends always ready to lend a hand,
00:47:25 --> 00:47:30 your formative years instilled in you a deep sense of responsibility towards
00:47:30 --> 00:47:32 those in need, which works good for the priests.
00:47:32 --> 00:47:36 This upbringing fostered strong social skills
00:47:36 --> 00:47:39 and a genuine desire to connect with people from
00:47:39 --> 00:47:42 all walks of life so the details is
00:47:42 --> 00:47:45 it's going to increase it i get a 0.5 for my holy
00:47:45 --> 00:47:49 faith factor which is still a little bit of a mystery to me my personal girl
00:47:49 --> 00:47:56 modifier i get another additional plus five and my motivation row is 3d4 plus
00:47:56 --> 00:48:04 two and i do dig the skill bonuses so my insight i I get a plus 20 into that, which, God.
00:48:05 --> 00:48:11 I can add that in there and then I also get etiquette cultural norms at plus 20. Nice. So, yeah.
00:48:12 --> 00:48:18 Well, for the devout convert, your journey to faith was not a simple one,
00:48:18 --> 00:48:19 despite being a simple man.
00:48:21 --> 00:48:25 Mongo just bought in Game of Life.
00:48:25 --> 00:48:30 No, I'm not going to be like super dumb in this character because I don't think
00:48:30 --> 00:48:31 a nine is actually that bad.
00:48:32 --> 00:48:38 No. regardless your journey to faith has not been a simple one once a skeptic
00:48:38 --> 00:48:43 or perhaps even an outright non-believer you underwent a profound transformation
00:48:43 --> 00:48:49 that led to your embrace of the spiritual path so i don't think maybe that was
00:48:49 --> 00:48:51 either like i almost died in the ring and saw and
00:48:52 --> 00:48:55 think i saw the angels or something like that like i was like dead
00:48:55 --> 00:48:57 i was almost i was like maybe technically dead for
00:48:57 --> 00:49:00 like a set for a few moments or and then came back
00:49:00 --> 00:49:03 or like maybe when the hatchet went through my
00:49:03 --> 00:49:06 almost like went through my face i saw
00:49:06 --> 00:49:09 god i saw my life flash before my
00:49:09 --> 00:49:13 eyes and i had a spiritual awakening yeah whether
00:49:13 --> 00:49:18 the yeah whether through a sudden epiphany or a gradual awakening or a life-altering
00:49:18 --> 00:49:24 experience just gonna check that off your newfound faith ignited a passion within
00:49:24 --> 00:49:30 you driving you to delve into religious studies and share your beliefs with others.
00:49:30 --> 00:49:39 So this pugilist turned, so I'm a pugilist turned religious heavy.
00:49:41 --> 00:49:46 Which I guess makes sense. I guess this is sort of like how I came into the
00:49:46 --> 00:49:53 attention of the orders is that I was like I basically found God.
00:49:54 --> 00:49:57 Maybe I found the halo in the ring.
00:49:59 --> 00:50:02 And then started actually attending, like going to church and started,
00:50:02 --> 00:50:05 started seeking out religious studies.
00:50:06 --> 00:50:11 Was it Paul that was shirk blind while riding a city by God?
00:50:11 --> 00:50:16 Maybe. It could have been, it's, it's, it's been a while. Been a while.
00:50:22 --> 00:50:26 Had to get that out of your system. Yeah. No, I need. Great.
00:50:27 --> 00:50:31 My purchase. Sorry. my purchase so for my profession my purchase roll modifier
00:50:31 --> 00:50:39 was a plus 10 and and now it's a five no i just added it says plus no mine's
00:50:39 --> 00:50:41 mine's minus five yours is plus five sir,
00:50:42 --> 00:50:46 okay i'm just glad i didn't get clerical sorry i'm just glad i didn't get clerical
00:50:46 --> 00:50:51 orphan because that's a minus 10 i'd have nothing for purchase it would be starting
00:50:51 --> 00:50:55 from finish sorry i just can't see on the character sheet where,
00:50:56 --> 00:50:58 motivational role is. It says I got three.
00:50:58 --> 00:51:01 That is, it's going to come up. I think we actually have to,
00:51:01 --> 00:51:02 we have to go find that one.
00:51:02 --> 00:51:06 Cause that is, I think like our, oh, that's at the top of your character sheet,
00:51:06 --> 00:51:07 actually your motivations.
00:51:08 --> 00:51:10 So that's also where you, and right above that is where you put your background,
00:51:10 --> 00:51:14 uh, Seth. So. Oh, snake, it would have bit me.
00:51:15 --> 00:51:20 Yeah, I'll just kind of fill that in there. And I'm pleased with mine.
00:51:20 --> 00:51:22 And I think yours makes a very unique character.
00:51:23 --> 00:51:26 Yeah, it's kind of built the character. It's kind of like establishing the character
00:51:26 --> 00:51:28 background. What a concept.
00:51:30 --> 00:51:33 Helping elaborate on like, basically, it's sort of like character building or
00:51:33 --> 00:51:35 like world building or like lore building the character.
00:51:36 --> 00:51:40 And I do like, looking back, I do like how the roles are slightly,
00:51:40 --> 00:51:43 you know, modified by like 3D 6 plus 2 and etc.
00:51:43 --> 00:51:50 Like that that i do like how they kind of finagled where certain things were just not an option for,
00:51:51 --> 00:51:54 other you know backgrounds or yeah
00:51:54 --> 00:51:58 for your professions so it's pretty cool well
00:51:58 --> 00:52:02 i think this is going to take us on to move
00:52:02 --> 00:52:05 around here to step the next
00:52:05 --> 00:52:10 step is motivate step six motivations yeah oddly enough you determine your character's
00:52:10 --> 00:52:17 driving purpose row for motivation based on your background so that was 3d for
00:52:17 --> 00:52:23 72 and look at page 72 yeah it's a similarly another.
00:52:24 --> 00:52:30 20 20 uh spot table so i won't give there's a lot of them and they're like they're
00:52:30 --> 00:52:33 actually like like whole things but we'll just go with like whatever ones we
00:52:33 --> 00:52:38 come on like i'll just bring up whichever ones we we come across as ours so,
00:52:39 --> 00:52:43 Sounds good. I've got my number. Do you got yours? I've got a,
00:52:43 --> 00:52:44 I got to grab mine again. Hang on.
00:52:46 --> 00:52:50 Mine is going to be three die four plus six.
00:52:50 --> 00:52:54 So going with this, I've got a 16. What did you get?
00:52:55 --> 00:52:59 Quite a few. I have got a nine.
00:53:00 --> 00:53:06 I am going to have to explore ancient myths and their relevance today.
00:53:06 --> 00:53:10 So it would tie in with the whole Codex thing. You're going to love mine.
00:53:11 --> 00:53:15 Sorry. No, you continue. Sorry. No, no, no. I want to hear yours, sir.
00:53:16 --> 00:53:21 To fight and eradicate demonic presences in the world with my fists.
00:53:22 --> 00:53:24 I'm going to punch the shit out of Satan.
00:53:27 --> 00:53:32 That's awesome. My God. And that does give us bonuses to our,
00:53:32 --> 00:53:37 our Holy faith and a starting experience check marks. And I assume that we just
00:53:37 --> 00:53:42 were just going to go ahead and row those for like my Holy Faith. Yeah.
00:53:42 --> 00:53:46 I think it started at, it said one and then I got a one elsewhere.
00:53:46 --> 00:53:51 So I thought I had it at, now I could totally be screwing this up and I may
00:53:51 --> 00:53:52 need to double check this stuff.
00:53:53 --> 00:53:58 Yeah. Cause I've got a, I grabbed a six, I think.
00:53:58 --> 00:54:03 So I have a, yeah, so I have a six on my, for my Holy Faith bonus.
00:54:04 --> 00:54:07 So. Oh, that's a bonus. That's not your factor. Okay.
00:54:08 --> 00:54:12 So. Bonus is, well. I feel like, I think, so I think Holy Faith,
00:54:13 --> 00:54:18 I think this is essentially the Exorcist Codex's like sanity system.
00:54:19 --> 00:54:22 Like your, your spiritual scent, your spiritual stuff. Yeah.
00:54:23 --> 00:54:26 Cause like I'm seeing under, like below, like underneath the holy faith factors
00:54:26 --> 00:54:29 and stuff, there's also demonic corruption and demon marks.
00:54:30 --> 00:54:33 So that that's gotta be like, you're kind of like the, you're slipping into
00:54:33 --> 00:54:34 like insanity or like you're slipping
00:54:34 --> 00:54:38 into the, into, you're falling to corruption of the, of the demons.
00:54:39 --> 00:54:44 You also get to mark holy faith experience.
00:54:45 --> 00:54:47 Check marks. I'm not sure where that is.
00:54:47 --> 00:54:53 Oh no. So my current holy faith, this character sheet you provided,
00:54:53 --> 00:54:57 it actually gives you your current holy faith and such.
00:54:58 --> 00:55:04 So for example, I have a factor of 0.5, my faith bonus is 6.
00:55:05 --> 00:55:12 So my current holy faith is 3 as a result of that. Mine started out as 1.
00:55:13 --> 00:55:18 And I've got, and I thought I had another, holy faith, I'll have to double check
00:55:18 --> 00:55:20 that in my rows and all that.
00:55:20 --> 00:55:25 But I think I got around a four, maybe. No, not a four, 2.5.
00:55:26 --> 00:55:30 I had to double check it. It's not worth marking now. And I'm just looking to
00:55:30 --> 00:55:34 see, do you see where you mark starting experience checkmarks?
00:55:35 --> 00:55:39 Experience checkmarks. Oh, yeah, there was something I saw. Experience,
00:55:39 --> 00:55:43 no, that's not it. I thought I saw something that was like experience check marks.
00:55:44 --> 00:55:47 Oh, there it is. It's, oh no, it's expense boxes. That's what I saw.
00:55:48 --> 00:55:52 No, the only thing I saw for experience, I think was up at the top of the first
00:55:52 --> 00:55:53 page, which was experience bonus.
00:55:54 --> 00:55:59 It is for experience bonus. That's right. It affects that right there.
00:55:59 --> 00:56:02 So that looks like it'd already be modified. Yeah.
00:56:03 --> 00:56:07 Looks like we got this here. If we've messed this up, I do apologize.
00:56:08 --> 00:56:14 It's also 10 p.m. So. Oh, shit. Yeah. Just want to make sure I got this right. Oh, go ahead.
00:56:15 --> 00:56:17 Max HP con plus size.
00:56:19 --> 00:56:23 Con 27 plus your toughness modifier.
00:56:24 --> 00:56:28 It's interesting. I'm not sure how HP applies in this game. Sorry.
00:56:29 --> 00:56:33 Oh, my max HP is that. Okay, that makes sense. Sorry.
00:56:34 --> 00:56:39 I think we are next to move on to step seven, aren't we? I believe so.
00:56:40 --> 00:56:46 All right. All right. So it looks like step seven, as I scroll down the PDF
00:56:46 --> 00:56:49 here, go on time, quirks and habits.
00:56:49 --> 00:56:53 There's a quirks and habits table on page 74.
00:56:53 --> 00:56:56 These traits add depth and individuality to your character.
00:56:57 --> 00:56:59 Note the selected quirks and habits on your character sheet.
00:57:00 --> 00:57:01 You can also create your own quirk.
00:57:02 --> 00:57:07 So, row or choose. So, I've been rowing the whole damn time.
00:57:07 --> 00:57:08 Might as well row now, man.
00:57:09 --> 00:57:11 Yeah, let's go ahead and look at 74.
00:57:12 --> 00:57:16 Okay. All right. I got 44. So. 1D100.
00:57:18 --> 00:57:22 All right. That's interesting. Apparently, my character's into feng shui,
00:57:22 --> 00:57:24 like compulsive feng shui.
00:57:25 --> 00:57:28 Obsessively rearrange furniture wherever they go.
00:57:31 --> 00:57:34 My odd little quirk is 77 i
00:57:34 --> 00:57:38 refuse to drink from glasses with chips or cracks i've
00:57:38 --> 00:57:42 been i don't want glass in my beverage that glass
00:57:42 --> 00:57:46 has a crack in it what about that one a hair little girl
00:57:46 --> 00:57:49 from uh signs yeah you know that like
00:57:49 --> 00:57:52 the uh the there's a theory going on like the uh
00:57:52 --> 00:57:55 the twist of that movie like the that
00:57:55 --> 00:57:58 we all kind of missed was the fact that they weren't actually aliens and
00:57:58 --> 00:58:01 that they were in fact demons yeah and that's why
00:58:01 --> 00:58:04 the water in the in the in the former preacher man's
00:58:04 --> 00:58:08 house was actually affecting him or affecting
00:58:08 --> 00:58:13 them that's cool I like that yeah like I really love that I honestly like totally
00:58:13 --> 00:58:17 dig that theory of like and like that it'd be also really interesting because
00:58:17 --> 00:58:20 like yeah like that's what like we think that like it's they're aliens but they
00:58:20 --> 00:58:26 and they might also be like in the in the broadest spectrum of that term like yeah they are aliens,
00:58:26 --> 00:58:28 but they are, in fact, also demons of, like,
00:58:29 --> 00:58:31 that have been worn through faiths. So, yeah.
00:58:32 --> 00:58:37 I think for added depth, you can roll twice and combine two quirks and habits
00:58:37 --> 00:58:40 to create a more complex invasion character personality.
00:58:40 --> 00:58:42 Let's roll one more, man. All right, I'll roll another one.
00:58:43 --> 00:58:45 Let's see where we go. Oh, that's gonna be...
00:58:47 --> 00:58:55 I think whispers affirmations to themselves in stressful moments. I like that.
00:58:55 --> 00:58:57 I dig that. Yeah.
00:58:58 --> 00:59:02 35 has a habit of chewing on the end of pens or pencils.
00:59:03 --> 00:59:06 So it's almost like a risk taking thing.
00:59:06 --> 00:59:13 So I don't want to cut myself or hurt myself, but there's a little bit of a
00:59:13 --> 00:59:17 thing about getting up to the edge to where you've mangled the tip of an ink
00:59:17 --> 00:59:19 pen or something like that,
00:59:19 --> 00:59:21 and it's just to the point that it's starting to get rough that you could cut
00:59:21 --> 00:59:23 your lips or your tongue or something like that.
00:59:24 --> 00:59:27 You know, just some kind of odd thing. But I do do these quirks.
00:59:27 --> 00:59:33 And thank you, creators, for creating many roll tables. I dig this.
00:59:34 --> 00:59:37 I'll have to give that some thought to how to tie those in a little bit more.
00:59:37 --> 00:59:39 But there's definitely some mouth thing going on here.
00:59:40 --> 00:59:43 So step eight, hip points and wounds.
00:59:43 --> 00:59:46 So our hit points were already calculated I
00:59:46 --> 00:59:49 think by the character sheet unless it just
00:59:49 --> 00:59:52 defaults as 10 hang on let's take a look here
00:59:52 --> 00:59:55 determine your character sheet determine your character's durability
00:59:55 --> 00:59:58 by calculating hit points and setting threshold
00:59:58 --> 01:00:01 setting thresholds for minor major wounds
01:00:01 --> 01:00:04 these values help track the effects
01:00:04 --> 01:00:08 of damage taken in combat so for max hit points calculate
01:00:08 --> 01:00:12 your total hit points by adding con in size
01:00:12 --> 01:00:15 dividing by 2 and rounding
01:00:15 --> 01:00:18 up if your toughness skill is 10
01:00:18 --> 01:00:21 or higher add the appropriate HP
01:00:21 --> 01:00:28 modifier mine it's actually I thought it defaulted as 10 for max HP but it looks
01:00:28 --> 01:00:34 like mine would be 18 so that divided I'm curious yeah so mine is con plus size
01:00:34 --> 01:00:39 so 10 plus 17 so 27 divided by 2.
01:00:41 --> 01:00:44 Two so it'd be 13 and rounded up so
01:00:44 --> 01:00:52 14 and then if your toughness skill is 10 or higher add the appropriate hp modifier
01:00:52 --> 01:00:57 what does that mean what's your toughness because my my toughness modifier is
01:00:57 --> 01:01:02 55 that's not so what is well i'm just like what is that in,
01:01:03 --> 01:01:08 because then my my my hp is actually not supposed to be 10 so like it says on
01:01:08 --> 01:01:10 the character sheet But what's a toughness modifier?
01:01:11 --> 01:01:15 All right. So I'm looking through it right now. Okay.
01:01:15 --> 01:01:20 Look at page 124 for your toughness description. Sorry. Page 24?
01:01:21 --> 01:01:24 124. 124. Okay. There we go.
01:01:24 --> 01:01:30 So toughness modifier bonus to your character's hit points based on proficiency with toughness skills.
01:01:31 --> 01:01:35 It represents your character's ability to endure physical punishment and remain functional.
01:01:36 --> 01:01:42 Okay. So my character has a 19 as their max HP and the, the character sheet
01:01:42 --> 01:01:49 does improve, does, does, does already do the math for the 25% and 50%.
01:01:51 --> 01:01:56 So good to know. If you're, you know, if you're toughness, that's, that's cool.
01:01:56 --> 01:02:00 Again, I like that. Is this a little bit of work? Yeah. To get that,
01:02:00 --> 01:02:04 but that's cool. So I'm, I'm, I'm basically nine hit points.
01:02:04 --> 01:02:07 Cause it said round up, but I mean, do I round up nine to 10?
01:02:08 --> 01:02:10 Well, no, it's, it's like, see, I got a 13.5.
01:02:11 --> 01:02:17 So I would round that up to 14. Yeah. I got nine and it was size and con. Yeah.
01:02:17 --> 01:02:23 Okay. All right. And then I guess next up is step nine, which is age.
01:02:24 --> 01:02:28 Now I did already give my character the age of 27, but I am willing to roll
01:02:28 --> 01:02:29 the dice just to see what I get.
01:02:29 --> 01:02:32 And I will just decide which one I want to keep.
01:02:33 --> 01:02:39 For characters is 20 plus three, two, six. All right. So let's go ahead and
01:02:39 --> 01:02:41 roll and see how old my guy is.
01:02:41 --> 01:02:46 If yes, if you want to roll your age, 20. And then, so three dice six.
01:02:46 --> 01:02:48 Let's go with that. Taste roller.
01:02:50 --> 01:02:53 Wow. Did I, wait, hang on.
01:02:53 --> 01:03:00 Did I actually, so the default age for your character is 20 plus three die six years old, right?
01:03:01 --> 01:03:05 Default age of characters is 20 plus three die six. Yes. Just gonna,
01:03:05 --> 01:03:09 I'm just gonna go ahead and screenshot something for you and send. So I have confirmation.
01:03:09 --> 01:03:12 All right, guys, I'll tell you if he's lying to me. Yeah.
01:03:13 --> 01:03:18 Seven. So seven. And that's added to 20 as a default.
01:03:18 --> 01:03:22 And what age did I go with? Like at the start of this whole thing?
01:03:22 --> 01:03:25 You said like 27, didn't you? I said 27.
01:03:26 --> 01:03:29 Ah, well. So it was meant to be.
01:03:30 --> 01:03:37 I rode, I basically rode 11. So it took me up to, I'm age 31. All right.
01:03:38 --> 01:03:41 So if you wish to buy order, okay, approval.
01:03:42 --> 01:03:47 Got another character sheet. Now we're going to, we're kind of rounding up here, guys.
01:03:47 --> 01:03:51 We're getting to the tail end of this stuff. It's going to be pretty quick.
01:03:52 --> 01:03:55 So step 10 is on page 30. It's the Codex lore.
01:03:55 --> 01:03:58 Your codex lore is determined by the number of codex
01:03:58 --> 01:04:01 skills you selected during character creation county
01:04:01 --> 01:04:04 codex skill marks which you probably don't
01:04:04 --> 01:04:12 have any i have nothing nothing i am i i'm willing to learn but i'm not there
01:04:12 --> 01:04:15 yet for codex lore i'm just starting
01:04:15 --> 01:04:21 to read the bible now i'm on i'm on genetics i got stuck at numbers.
01:04:24 --> 01:04:29 It got really boring in numbers and then this guy begot this guy who we got
01:04:29 --> 01:04:31 this guy it's just oh my god,
01:04:32 --> 01:04:38 where's that corinthian i can't anyway all right i do some math real quick chris
01:04:38 --> 01:04:42 i wonder if the etiquette,
01:04:43 --> 01:04:49 knowledge and all that kind of affected that. I need to go look at the priest. It does, I think. Yeah.
01:04:49 --> 01:04:53 Depending on what kind, because you have etiquette like other worldly beings,
01:04:53 --> 01:04:58 and I think I saw that one had a cross next to it.
01:04:58 --> 01:05:02 So, like when I was looking at your priest character sheet, or your priest sheet.
01:05:04 --> 01:05:07 All right, yeah, I can use your character sheet, really. So it's,
01:05:08 --> 01:05:11 there's like a cross, and then there's like a cross and a circle.
01:05:11 --> 01:05:15 Is it the one with the... No, looking at the, I think at the codex is the,
01:05:15 --> 01:05:17 is the cross with the, with the circle.
01:05:17 --> 01:05:20 Cause at the bottom of the, of the first page of your character sheet,
01:05:20 --> 01:05:24 you, you can see the cross with the circle and it right next to it says codex skills.
01:05:25 --> 01:05:28 So I have, I have six codex skills.
01:05:29 --> 01:05:33 So what's that mean? Let's figure it out. I look at page 37.
01:05:34 --> 01:05:35 Yeah. Go to page 37.
01:05:38 --> 01:05:41 So, oh God. uh
01:05:41 --> 01:05:44 codec lower value represents the
01:05:44 --> 01:05:47 depth of your connection you begin
01:05:47 --> 01:05:50 with the base value determined by the number of codec skills selected
01:05:50 --> 01:05:53 during character creation so those marked with the
01:05:53 --> 01:05:56 cross in a circle improvement comes
01:05:56 --> 01:06:00 through experience with demonic entities and all that such so
01:06:00 --> 01:06:04 your basic value your
01:06:04 --> 01:06:08 base value is that number what was that number again six six
01:06:08 --> 01:06:12 so if it's under if it's on the on the table for
01:06:12 --> 01:06:15 like lore benefits and stuff like that if it's under nine for your
01:06:15 --> 01:06:18 value you have 40 a 40
01:06:18 --> 01:06:25 chance codec lore checks are used to gain clues insight and hints during a scenario
01:06:25 --> 01:06:34 to perform a check a roll one die a 1d hundred against your codec lower percentage
01:06:34 --> 01:06:36 before making this role,
01:06:36 --> 01:06:41 you must clearly specify that what you, what you are seeking insight about and
01:06:41 --> 01:06:44 must have already gathered relevant items,
01:06:44 --> 01:06:46 texts, and knowledge. Yeah.
01:06:47 --> 01:06:52 So, yeah. So, I guess I even probably have, like, mine's probably just,
01:06:52 --> 01:06:56 like, a 40% chance because I'm zero on that.
01:06:57 --> 01:07:02 And when you click it, it actually modifies on the character sheet your current holy faith. Okay.
01:07:03 --> 01:07:08 So, when I clicked six, it moved me up to, like, 25.
01:07:09 --> 01:07:12 Gotcha. Pretty cool. I'm still trying to figure this out.
01:07:12 --> 01:07:15 Again, if we get anything wrong, we apologize. Guys, we're kind of,
01:07:15 --> 01:07:17 this is our first time looking at this stuff.
01:07:18 --> 01:07:20 This is, in fact, our first rodeo. Yeah.
01:07:21 --> 01:07:24 I do love, I mean, I read the beginning stuff about the world,
01:07:24 --> 01:07:26 but I didn't go into the system.
01:07:26 --> 01:07:29 Because, you know, God knows I ain't going to do a podcast about creating characters
01:07:29 --> 01:07:32 or anything crazy like that. What? I don't. Crazy.
01:07:33 --> 01:07:37 Let's see. I am trying to get to the next. Okay, so we're Codex lore.
01:07:38 --> 01:07:42 Now we're on to basically the system sanity, I think, is what the next one is.
01:07:42 --> 01:07:44 The holy faith and human corruption.
01:07:45 --> 01:07:48 Yeah. So if you let me, I'll... I'll go, please.
01:07:49 --> 01:07:53 Your holy faith measures your character's spiritual connection and devotion.
01:07:53 --> 01:07:56 Holy faith factor. Initially, your character... So as we've been kind of.
01:07:57 --> 01:08:00 Dipping our toes in on this through the other steps.
01:08:01 --> 01:08:06 Initially, your character's holy faith factor is the sum of your professions
01:08:06 --> 01:08:08 and backgrounds holy faith factor.
01:08:08 --> 01:08:11 It cannot be less than zero.
01:08:11 --> 01:08:14 This factor may also change after adventures.
01:08:15 --> 01:08:19 It defines your character's level of devotion to their belief and indicates
01:08:19 --> 01:08:22 whether they are a believer or a non-believer.
01:08:22 --> 01:08:26 Holy faith bonus initially this value
01:08:26 --> 01:08:29 is determined by your motivation but may change
01:08:29 --> 01:08:32 after each game session see page 40
01:08:32 --> 01:08:36 it reflects your faith related experiences and
01:08:36 --> 01:08:39 represents events or moments that influence
01:08:39 --> 01:08:42 your character's personal belief and level of devotion
01:08:42 --> 01:08:46 so holy faith equals your codex lore
01:08:46 --> 01:08:49 plus your holy faith bonus times your
01:08:49 --> 01:08:52 holy faith factor and on our
01:08:52 --> 01:08:55 character sheet that's already kind of calculated in once we punched in our
01:08:55 --> 01:09:01 holy faith factor or holy faith bonus and we've added uh whatever our codex
01:09:01 --> 01:09:05 lore what we've put in whatever number our codex lore is it looks like with
01:09:05 --> 01:09:11 mine i would do six plus 25 so it'd be 31 times two and a half.
01:09:12 --> 01:09:16 And then we have demonic corruption in this step as well.
01:09:17 --> 01:09:19 Demonic corruption tracks the extent
01:09:19 --> 01:09:25 of your character's exposure and susceptibility to demonic influence.
01:09:26 --> 01:09:29 The value is initially set to zero, so you don't have to worry about it until
01:09:29 --> 01:09:34 you meet the ugly demonic elephant in the room. And then you have to roll against it, I guess.
01:09:34 --> 01:09:40 Next up, we have step 12, which is spirit and power points.
01:09:40 --> 01:09:43 Oh yeah by the way my my spirit points oh
01:09:43 --> 01:09:48 yeah this currently looks like it is 77
01:09:48 --> 01:09:51 oh gee for for
01:09:51 --> 01:09:54 wait what if i'm doing my spirit points
01:09:54 --> 01:09:57 oh i haven't done that yet i haven't got there yet oh my
01:09:57 --> 01:10:01 bad yeah yeah yeah so step 12 yeah so determine your character's resilience
01:10:01 --> 01:10:06 and spiritual strength in with spirit points and power points spirit points
01:10:06 --> 01:10:12 determine with spirit points help withstand mental and emotional strain while
01:10:12 --> 01:10:15 power points fuel abilities to require.
01:10:16 --> 01:10:22 Divine spiritual energy okay so yeah holy faith is basically like so i guess
01:10:22 --> 01:10:27 the holy faith aspect of it is like your resilience against like or you're sort
01:10:27 --> 01:10:29 of like a bonus against your again when you're dealing with like demonic corruption
01:10:29 --> 01:10:33 and then spirit and power points are your,
01:10:33 --> 01:10:35 resilience is basically like
01:10:35 --> 01:10:39 the role for your rolling against like fear checks or like the stress of,
01:10:39 --> 01:10:41 horrible shit so yeah,
01:10:42 --> 01:10:48 So, and I've misread that with the Holy Faith bonus is what I screwed that up with. So, oops.
01:10:48 --> 01:10:51 I thought I determined the maximum. Okay. So yeah, like for,
01:10:51 --> 01:10:56 yeah, because spirit points are calculated by multiplying your POW by five to
01:10:56 --> 01:10:58 determine your max spirit points.
01:10:58 --> 01:11:03 These points are used to endure psychological stress and mental strain.
01:11:03 --> 01:11:09 So for me, since my POW is seven, it would be 35.
01:11:10 --> 01:11:20 So where is 35? on this put that in and then power the the power points or the pp hey i am a child.
01:11:22 --> 01:11:28 Calculate your power points by adding your pow and codex lore then multiplying
01:11:28 --> 01:11:35 by your holy faith factor these points reflect your spiritual and divine potency
01:11:35 --> 01:11:38 and are used to perform actions requiring spiritual strength.
01:11:39 --> 01:11:42 So basically you're spellcasting or your faith-based spellcasting.
01:11:42 --> 01:11:43 So this is going to be great for me.
01:11:44 --> 01:11:46 It'll be good for you. It'll be, it'll suck for me.
01:11:47 --> 01:11:52 Well, my spell, my spirit points were 65. So I wasn't too far off, to be honest with you.
01:11:53 --> 01:11:58 I mean, I've got like, I've got a 0.5 factor for holy and then my codex lore
01:11:58 --> 01:12:01 is zero. So I'm really just relying on my pow.
01:12:03 --> 01:12:06 So, and my pow being seven, what did I say, 17?
01:12:06 --> 01:12:11 Yeah. No, I said my... Seven. So, a POW of seven.
01:12:11 --> 01:12:14 Mine then times... I guess seven times 0.5?
01:12:15 --> 01:12:20 So three point... Round it up, so four. So I have four POW.
01:12:20 --> 01:12:25 Oh, interesting thing. This... Okay, so I've got to punch 35 there. And then...
01:12:26 --> 01:12:30 So I had to add something there. Pow, 13 times Codex Lore, I had 6.
01:12:31 --> 01:12:35 So 13 times 6 would be 78?
01:12:36 --> 01:12:40 Is that right? Wait, hang on. What? That's plus. I multiplied.
01:12:41 --> 01:12:48 Yeah, so Pow plus your Codex Lore. It's 19. Factor, okay. So 19? Okay.
01:12:49 --> 01:12:55 19 plus HF, so 18. It'd be 20. 19 times HF.
01:12:56 --> 01:12:58 Oh, 19 times HF? Yeah.
01:12:59 --> 01:13:02 If I did this right, which we may have figured out it wrong,
01:13:02 --> 01:13:06 I think my holy faith factor is like two. I need to double check all that.
01:13:07 --> 01:13:10 Yeah, you may want to quickly check that. All right, no, it's 19.
01:13:11 --> 01:13:13 19 times two would be 38.
01:13:14 --> 01:13:17 Does that sound right? Okay, what's your POW?
01:13:18 --> 01:13:21 13. 13? Okay, and what's your codex lore?
01:13:22 --> 01:13:31 Six. That's 19. So 19 times whatever your, your holy factor or holy faith factor is. I think two.
01:13:31 --> 01:13:38 19 times two is 38. So yeah, you have a 38 on your, for your power, for your PowerPoints.
01:13:39 --> 01:13:45 Which makes sense because you're a priest. So you should have a decent pool of power.
01:13:46 --> 01:13:49 You should have a decent pool of PP.
01:13:50 --> 01:13:54 If my numbers are right, I think they may be, it may actually be as high as
01:13:54 --> 01:13:56 47. But I'll double check that later.
01:13:57 --> 01:14:02 So I'll leave as is right now. I'm not here to power gain. We're almost done.
01:14:02 --> 01:14:04 We are literally two steps away.
01:14:04 --> 01:14:08 Step 13, I think, is just going to breeze by because it's appearance. so
01:14:08 --> 01:14:11 using size strength con and charisma
01:14:11 --> 01:14:13 characteristics determine your character's physical stature i
01:14:13 --> 01:14:16 think i've already figured that out optionally you
01:14:16 --> 01:14:20 can add unique traits to help bring your character to life visually and narrative
01:14:20 --> 01:14:25 yeah so that's just like that that's again my appearance for this character
01:14:25 --> 01:14:30 horribly hatchet scarred and burned bald with a fit with the handlebar mustache
01:14:30 --> 01:14:35 and just a big like pugilist style kind of, kind of man.
01:14:36 --> 01:14:42 So. I think honestly, I am going to, I've originally said that it was exorcism
01:14:42 --> 01:14:45 went wrong, but I didn't take the exorcist playbook.
01:14:45 --> 01:14:47 I just took the brief. So I think I want to recant that.
01:14:48 --> 01:14:54 And, you know, I, I think that it was a, I think I was caught up in a,
01:14:54 --> 01:14:57 like a train accident of sorts. Yeah.
01:14:58 --> 01:15:03 And I would like to kind of make it a little bit more like call to action and
01:15:03 --> 01:15:06 stuff like that. But I got onto the train.
01:15:06 --> 01:15:14 I went to, I was riding on a train and I felt myself drawn for some reason to
01:15:14 --> 01:15:16 one of the back carts of it.
01:15:16 --> 01:15:20 And as I wandered in back there, I found something that I didn't,
01:15:20 --> 01:15:22 I had never experienced before.
01:15:22 --> 01:15:28 And in the ensuing chaos that took place, I would even say it could be cultists.
01:15:28 --> 01:15:33 It could have been some kind of manifestation, but, uh, Can I add something to this? Please.
01:15:34 --> 01:15:36 Cause your, your last name's Olsen, correct?
01:15:38 --> 01:15:43 So the caboose of the train was not the original caboose for this train.
01:15:44 --> 01:15:47 It was actually for a different train called the Seer 1313.
01:15:47 --> 01:15:51 It's a tiny for D and D game. Yeah. I'm tying it with the Vossen,
01:15:51 --> 01:15:55 tying it to the Vossen game because we're that the seer 1313 or the mistborn
01:15:55 --> 01:16:01 1313 is a train that travels through like a dimensional fog. So.
01:16:03 --> 01:16:08 And there, did you ever play a red dead redemption too? Which I know. Yeah.
01:16:08 --> 01:16:13 Yep. One of the things that they did to play like an old, and this would be
01:16:13 --> 01:16:16 about the time of the Cowboys or the dying ages. 1890.
01:16:16 --> 01:16:20 It's the, but it's getting, it's getting there. Like, I think,
01:16:20 --> 01:16:23 I think the true death of the, of the West is like what? 1910.
01:16:23 --> 01:16:29 Or 19, like 19, yeah, about 1910 or 1911, I think is the, the true end of the West. So.
01:16:29 --> 01:16:33 There's a song that you can catch them singing when you go to camp sometimes.
01:16:33 --> 01:16:36 And it's those four bastards that do the song for,
01:16:37 --> 01:16:41 Oh, Gods of Appalachia. Oh, yeah. If you're familiar with that band,
01:16:41 --> 01:16:44 but they had a song, they did a rendition of this song that you can hear on
01:16:44 --> 01:16:48 Red Dead Redemption called The Hellbound Train.
01:16:48 --> 01:16:55 Nice. Maybe the train that I boarded, actually, you know, it's the Seer 1313,
01:16:55 --> 01:16:59 maybe it actually, for a brief moment, it went through hell.
01:16:59 --> 01:17:03 Yeah, it certainly could have, yeah. Or like, just like the,
01:17:03 --> 01:17:07 yeah, that caboose, or like, yeah, just like shifted, and during that shift,
01:17:07 --> 01:17:12 Like you saw hell through the windows or through the ports?
01:17:13 --> 01:17:16 Have you seen the deleted scenes for Event Horizon? Like the ones that they
01:17:16 --> 01:17:21 hint to, like what happens on the ship that they cut out and the footage has been lost.
01:17:21 --> 01:17:23 Maybe I went through something kind of like that.
01:17:24 --> 01:17:27 Yeah, I like that. The world went to Dad's face for me for a little bit.
01:17:27 --> 01:17:33 And when I came to, I wasn't, I think we blacked it out, but I was damaged in
01:17:33 --> 01:17:38 the process and these wounds have never quite healed. So I'm kind of lame.
01:17:38 --> 01:17:41 I don't want to, I don't mean this to be derogative. I mean, I'm in real life.
01:17:41 --> 01:17:46 I'm a bit crippled myself, but yeah, physically it broke him.
01:17:46 --> 01:17:51 But my charisma is still there. So I kept a, I Pollyanna that shit. Yeah.
01:17:52 --> 01:17:56 The mind will do a lot of things to shield itself. So, yeah.
01:17:56 --> 01:18:00 Maybe there was actually an exorcist that was on the ship or on the train.
01:18:00 --> 01:18:04 And that's what actually kind of, that was my origin story. Oh God.
01:18:05 --> 01:18:10 You're you switched places that it would be horrible that poor guy.
01:18:12 --> 01:18:15 He's trapped on the train he's yeah the weird thing is that when you when you
01:18:15 --> 01:18:19 like the train the the caboose looked different when you entered it and then
01:18:19 --> 01:18:21 when like all the weird and then suddenly you blacked out and when you came
01:18:21 --> 01:18:26 back to like you could have sworn it said something like the seer 13 something something,
01:18:27 --> 01:18:31 on the on the side of it but now it's it but then but now it's the same it's
01:18:31 --> 01:18:34 the regular like caboose for this train yeah.
01:18:34 --> 01:18:37 I think we're ready for step 14. We're at the end, boys.
01:18:38 --> 01:18:42 Yep. Order affiliation and group connections. Step is designed to deepen your
01:18:42 --> 01:18:46 character's integration into a group by exploring the affiliation with the order
01:18:46 --> 01:18:48 and how it shapes or roles in agent.
01:18:49 --> 01:18:53 Each player character must choose their affiliation with the order.
01:18:53 --> 01:18:59 As this defines a role as an agent, only order guardians are full members of the order.
01:18:59 --> 01:19:04 All other player characters work for the order in some capacity.
01:19:04 --> 01:19:07 Such as being hired, recruited, engaged in specific tasks.
01:19:07 --> 01:19:11 Its affiliation is a reason player characters were referred to as agents.
01:19:11 --> 01:19:16 And the character's title becomes agent of, insert name.
01:19:16 --> 01:19:18 See orders on page 218.
01:19:19 --> 01:19:25 And that's where we get the such orders, such as, we have the Order de la Lumria Sacre,
01:19:26 --> 01:19:30 otherwise known as the Order of the Sacred Light, which is a venerable sisterhood
01:19:30 --> 01:19:35 of guardian sisters, steadfast in their divine mission to combat demonic threats.
01:19:35 --> 01:19:40 The Order's origins trace back to a group of women who fled persecution and
01:19:40 --> 01:19:45 sought shelter in a remote valley near the Alps during the early stages of the Unseen War.
01:19:46 --> 01:19:53 Over the centuries, the Order of the Sacred Light became one of the most influential
01:19:53 --> 01:19:59 orders in Europe by maintaining a focus, preserving and applying the teachings
01:19:59 --> 01:20:00 of the Protector of the Holy Light.
01:20:01 --> 01:20:05 The Order's Foundations is in the remote valley near the Alps,
01:20:06 --> 01:20:07 allowing or allowed to be
01:20:07 --> 01:20:11 allowed it to train generations of guardian sisters without external interference.
01:20:12 --> 01:20:18 As the unseen war unfolded, the order played a critical role in preserving the
01:20:18 --> 01:20:22 teachings and practices passed down from the celestials, recovering forgotten
01:20:22 --> 01:20:24 rituals, safeguarding holy items.
01:20:25 --> 01:20:29 And ensuring continuity of teachings necessary to confront demonic forces.
01:20:30 --> 01:20:36 Yeah. I mean, I'm pretty open to whatever. It just seems like the orders are kind of, uh,
01:20:37 --> 01:20:40 one quick thing the order has established a wide
01:20:40 --> 01:20:43 network of monasteries and sanctuaries in smaller cities remote
01:20:43 --> 01:20:46 and remote locations across europe notable sites
01:20:46 --> 01:20:49 include the forested valleys of the black forest in germany
01:20:49 --> 01:20:54 the highlands of scotland and the isolated hilltops of tuscany in italy so you
01:20:54 --> 01:20:57 have your basically like you if you want to go with the order of the sacred
01:20:57 --> 01:21:01 light per se as like your as the order that you're affiliated with you could
01:21:01 --> 01:21:06 basically just choose like a a location somewhere in Europe and maybe somewhere
01:21:06 --> 01:21:08 in Scandinavia and then just,
01:21:08 --> 01:21:13 or say Sweden, and then put it like, put your, your, whatever monastery of the
01:21:13 --> 01:21:16 sacred light is there, uh, like somewhere remote. Yeah.
01:21:16 --> 01:21:21 If, if you so feel like going that route. Yeah. And then the other order that
01:21:21 --> 01:21:23 we have is the Templars of Dawn.
01:21:23 --> 01:21:27 Templars of Dawn were founded shortly after the departure of the last celestial
01:21:27 --> 01:21:32 guardian known to have fought alongside humanity during the great demonic war.
01:21:32 --> 01:21:37 Formed by warriors, priests, and scholars who have witnessed the celestial's
01:21:37 --> 01:21:43 power, the order sought to organize humanity's defense and preserve the practice
01:21:43 --> 01:21:46 of the practices and teachings learned by the divine.
01:21:46 --> 01:21:51 Their founding ensured that the knowledge granted during the Great Demonic War would endure.
01:21:51 --> 01:21:55 And then it goes on with a couple of other things, but leadership of the Templars
01:21:55 --> 01:22:01 is vested by the Grand Master, a position granted through a combination of lineage,
01:22:01 --> 01:22:04 merit, and what many believe to be divine intervention.
01:22:04 --> 01:22:09 The Templars' headquarters is located in London, England, hidden in a nondescript
01:22:09 --> 01:22:11 office building in the Financial District.
01:22:12 --> 01:22:15 Strangely enough, it's somewhere in Eastwick, probably.
01:22:17 --> 01:22:20 Again it's i'm seeing parallels again with with
01:22:20 --> 01:22:24 secret world with this whole thing yeah but i
01:22:24 --> 01:22:27 think i know which i think i'm gonna go with templars honestly because it fits my
01:22:27 --> 01:22:30 character being from like the the mean streets of
01:22:30 --> 01:22:32 london well mine was interested in the
01:22:32 --> 01:22:36 religious artifacts and stuff like that so so
01:22:36 --> 01:22:38 the background was yeah no i mean i think
01:22:38 --> 01:22:41 they both ought to be templars oh yeah they could yeah we could
01:22:41 --> 01:22:45 both go templar yeah any strong connection with the british society and religious
01:22:45 --> 01:22:50 organizations templars are also present in other major so one i so it sounds
01:22:50 --> 01:22:55 like one order is all about like like basically standing hanging out in like
01:22:55 --> 01:23:01 the one's all about like the small isolated rural areas and one's about the big cities,
01:23:01 --> 01:23:06 like big urban centers is where they have establishments i think we could definitely do that.
01:23:08 --> 01:23:11 And then I guess for that, where's that go on the character sheet?
01:23:11 --> 01:23:16 Does that have a spot? I see order does not appear.
01:23:16 --> 01:23:19 Okay. So it might just be like, that might be more of like a campaign or like,
01:23:19 --> 01:23:23 just like something to keep in mind on your character. Like, yeah.
01:23:24 --> 01:23:28 Yeah. I think that makes sense. Cause if we go to the, the step again,
01:23:28 --> 01:23:33 like we go back to the step there, each player can, each player character must
01:23:33 --> 01:23:35 choose their affiliation with an order.
01:23:35 --> 01:23:40 As this defines their role as an agent. Like you said, yeah.
01:23:41 --> 01:23:47 And then, so yeah, I guess we go with that. So we're working for the order of the Templar.
01:23:48 --> 01:23:54 Yeah. And then it just doesn't say like, that just defines like what group we're working with.
01:23:54 --> 01:24:00 And then group connection, establish how your agent's affiliation with the order
01:24:00 --> 01:24:05 brings them together with the other agents, whether through shared missions,
01:24:05 --> 01:24:09 common goals, or the Order's directives. These,
01:24:10 --> 01:24:15 connections should reflect the trust and cooperation needed to fulfill the order's
01:24:15 --> 01:24:19 objectives, discuss the motivations of the groups for it.
01:24:19 --> 01:24:22 So this is basically like, that's more of a camp like session zero kind of thing.
01:24:23 --> 01:24:27 Uh, actually I want to go back to two 18 to the orders and see,
01:24:28 --> 01:24:31 I'm just curious if this actually, okay.
01:24:31 --> 01:24:36 Yeah. It doesn't really like lay out a full, Oh no, it does. Okay. Here we go.
01:24:36 --> 01:24:41 Orders and agents. Agents are hired on temporary task-based missions.
01:24:42 --> 01:24:46 Independent complete assignments, so the experience is necessary for roles.
01:24:46 --> 01:24:51 However, orders may assist with immediate needs arising during a mission,
01:24:51 --> 01:24:57 such as such support may include providing temporary use of holy artifacts and
01:24:57 --> 01:24:59 relics essential to a mission,
01:24:59 --> 01:25:04 offering critical intelligence or context regarding an assignment,
01:25:04 --> 01:25:11 handling logistical issues such as disposing of bodies or concealing evidence,
01:25:12 --> 01:25:17 safeguarding or transporting holy items discovered during the mission.
01:25:17 --> 01:25:22 Agents are compensated for their services based on the nature and complexity of their assignments.
01:25:23 --> 01:25:26 Compensation includes money, equipment, access to training and knowledge,
01:25:26 --> 01:25:31 or even charged talismans and holy artifacts. I swear to God,
01:25:31 --> 01:25:37 Adam, we could, we could probably use this system as like, if we wanted to play
01:25:37 --> 01:25:41 in the secret world, but like in this time period.
01:25:42 --> 01:25:47 Yeah. Like I, I, this is, this is giving me, this is giving me such strong,
01:25:47 --> 01:25:53 like vibes from like the lore of like the Templar, the Illuminati and the dragon
01:25:53 --> 01:25:55 in the secret world. It's ridiculous.
01:25:55 --> 01:25:59 And what we're referring to here, and this has came up once or twice.
01:26:00 --> 01:26:03 Yeah. recording as well the secret world was based on
01:26:03 --> 01:26:06 it's a tabletop rpg they have it for
01:26:06 --> 01:26:09 uh five and five and uh
01:26:09 --> 01:26:11 and seven worlds sorry and it's it's
01:26:11 --> 01:26:14 well you know more about than i do but it's it's based on an
01:26:14 --> 01:26:17 mmorpg that was on big for
01:26:17 --> 01:26:20 a while there it's got it and we're we did a roll up
01:26:20 --> 01:26:23 on it several episodes back and uh
01:26:23 --> 01:26:26 we're still kicking around playing that game
01:26:26 --> 01:26:30 and all so it's uh basically yeah
01:26:30 --> 01:26:33 like yeah the the mmo the secret world
01:26:33 --> 01:26:36 back it came out in 2011 or 2012 and then
01:26:36 --> 01:26:42 it later became a free-to-play game called secret world legends honestly this
01:26:42 --> 01:26:47 game the the exorcist codex if you if you're a fan or like an old player of
01:26:47 --> 01:26:53 the of the secret world and like you played as a templar specifically this is your jam yeah,
01:26:54 --> 01:27:00 Because this feels like a, like, like you're playing in the history of the secret world.
01:27:00 --> 01:27:04 Like they even have like, like similar terminology, like the unseen war.
01:27:05 --> 01:27:08 And like in, in the secret world specifically, there's, there's,
01:27:08 --> 01:27:12 there is various storylines and narratives of fighting the legions of,
01:27:13 --> 01:27:14 of, of the, of the hell dimensions.
01:27:15 --> 01:27:19 So yeah, again, big fan of this.
01:27:19 --> 01:27:24 I'm already like a growing fan of this, of this, this game and system and setting.
01:27:24 --> 01:27:29 So it's very, it feels like also, sorry, no, you're good.
01:27:29 --> 01:27:35 You know, this also reminds me of Helsing, the movie, like, you know,
01:27:35 --> 01:27:36 like where like they're in, like, they have like that, that,
01:27:36 --> 01:27:37 that holy organization.
01:27:37 --> 01:27:42 Like that's like, uh, it's like various different holy, uh, like orders or like
01:27:42 --> 01:27:48 holy, like faiths working together to fight evil or to combat evil by sending their agents out.
01:27:48 --> 01:27:55 Yeah. It definitely feels like that kind of organization. Yeah. And I'm here for it, so.
01:27:56 --> 01:27:59 Well, I think we've actually finished a character creation.
01:28:00 --> 01:28:03 So, you know, what I like to kind of talk about here on all these episodes is
01:28:03 --> 01:28:08 just impressions so far of the, you know, not just character creation,
01:28:08 --> 01:28:11 but the game itself is presented through this lens.
01:28:12 --> 01:28:14 So, I think you've already alluded
01:28:14 --> 01:28:19 to it. So, can you give me your final opinions on the Exorcist Codex?
01:28:19 --> 01:28:21 What do you like about it? What do you not...
01:28:22 --> 01:28:26 What do you not like about it, if anything? And there's not a whole lot.
01:28:26 --> 01:28:29 I can't really name off anything right now that I hate.
01:28:29 --> 01:28:34 It's a system that I'm, I'm, I don't, I don't play a lot of BPR system.
01:28:35 --> 01:28:41 I play a lot of other systems, D20 and, and like Power by the Apocalypse and Gumshoe.
01:28:41 --> 01:28:46 I don't actually have a lot of, of experience with like Call of Cthulhu and
01:28:46 --> 01:28:49 Delta Green outside of like a handful of games.
01:28:50 --> 01:28:53 But that said like i do like the system i like
01:28:53 --> 01:28:56 the percentile system it it works it's very
01:28:56 --> 01:28:59 simple and like character creation i mean we've been we've been
01:28:59 --> 01:29:02 at this for probably an hour or two yeah but
01:29:02 --> 01:29:05 like that's also because like we're it's a brand new system
01:29:05 --> 01:29:08 that we had to like figure out the vernacular and and
01:29:08 --> 01:29:11 context to but like otherwise like
01:29:11 --> 01:29:14 it's very simple like character creation for like
01:29:14 --> 01:29:17 laying out like your like percentiles and stuff that for your
01:29:17 --> 01:29:20 stats and such setting wise like
01:29:20 --> 01:29:23 this the actual game of of the exorcist codex
01:29:23 --> 01:29:26 from what we've talked here about
01:29:26 --> 01:29:29 and what we've gleaned or what i've gleaned about the about the setting in the
01:29:29 --> 01:29:40 book it jams so hard to a vibe that i already love like 19th century like fighting
01:29:40 --> 01:29:45 demon investigating and fighting demons and cults and, and,
01:29:45 --> 01:29:50 and, and the, the terrors of the, of the, of a demonic legion or of, of darkness,
01:29:50 --> 01:29:53 like playing agents of light of that.
01:29:53 --> 01:29:58 It's very much a, a vibe that I, I'm, I, I click with.
01:29:59 --> 01:30:04 I'm, I, I can't wait to play this game. I look forward to seeing how,
01:30:04 --> 01:30:09 how it plays out, how it, like, if we do get gaslighting by gaslight off the
01:30:09 --> 01:30:11 ground, that will be really fun.
01:30:12 --> 01:30:17 I, I like my character. I like your character, uh, in conjecture with mine.
01:30:17 --> 01:30:22 I, I, again, like this, it's this, it's, it's a genre, like a pulp genre of
01:30:22 --> 01:30:27 like monster hunters or demon or demon investigators and cult investigators
01:30:27 --> 01:30:28 in the, in the 19th century.
01:30:29 --> 01:30:34 So like it's, it's just, it's a genre that clicks a lot of positive buttons for me.
01:30:34 --> 01:30:39 So yeah, I, I really, I'm, I'm very excited for this, the system and the system
01:30:39 --> 01:30:42 and the, uh, and the setting. I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I.
01:30:42 --> 01:30:45 I think it's pretty clear that I enjoyed this as well. I mean,
01:30:45 --> 01:30:47 I think it's a beautifully laid out book.
01:30:48 --> 01:30:54 I feel like there was an elegance to the character creation that I did not appreciate
01:30:54 --> 01:30:58 at first, just by just simply glancing at it and figuring out that, yeah.
01:30:58 --> 01:31:02 I mean, I went to it as like, this is called Cthulhu. And while there are some
01:31:02 --> 01:31:07 similarities to it, it definitely is kind of making this, it's got some distinct kind of flavor.
01:31:07 --> 01:31:10 I am curious how because it
01:31:10 --> 01:31:13 doesn't have sanity like like like cthulhu does but it
01:31:13 --> 01:31:17 does have this like it seems like the the holy
01:31:17 --> 01:31:21 faith and spiritual points system
01:31:21 --> 01:31:24 and like even the powerpoint system to a degree it seems
01:31:24 --> 01:31:29 like it's a little bit more like it'll be it's a little bit more i
01:31:29 --> 01:31:32 was gonna say involved but like it is kind of a little bit more involved or
01:31:32 --> 01:31:35 a little bit a little bit more complex than just like simple sanity checks
01:31:35 --> 01:31:38 so i'm curious to see how that plays out because i wonder if it's going to be
01:31:38 --> 01:31:41 like how sanity and stress are
01:31:41 --> 01:31:44 two separate things in the gumshoe system
01:31:44 --> 01:31:47 trail of cthulhu and like stress is
01:31:47 --> 01:31:50 for your like basically like your your
01:31:50 --> 01:31:55 typical like frights and and and mental stress issues and then sanity is for
01:31:55 --> 01:31:59 like more longer lingering things and i wonder if that's gonna how how this
01:31:59 --> 01:32:03 is gonna play out with like spiritual points are for like defending yourself
01:32:03 --> 01:32:08 against like fears and the horrors of this game and system. Yeah.
01:32:08 --> 01:32:12 And then like we have to and then the other one like holy faith and like demonic
01:32:12 --> 01:32:18 corruption is sort of like the sanity aspect where like like the lingering sanity stuff. Yeah. Yeah.
01:32:18 --> 01:32:22 The book, and we didn't even go over this, it was on page eight,
01:32:22 --> 01:32:29 when it acknowledges the BRP system and chaos in Cal Cthulhu and talks about the origins of this.
01:32:30 --> 01:32:34 But there are some big noticeable differences, such as sanity.
01:32:34 --> 01:32:38 It mentions here, sanity is a defining trait in Cal Cthulhu.
01:32:38 --> 01:32:42 As knowledge grows, sanity dreams lead into madness in the exorcist codex.
01:32:42 --> 01:32:47 This balance is defined as spirit the measure of mental and emotional resilience
01:32:47 --> 01:32:51 representing the hope and devotion characters draw upon in their fight against
01:32:51 --> 01:32:57 demons rather than inevitable decline spirit reflects the inner strength essential
01:32:57 --> 01:32:59 for facing down to evil so i mean,
01:33:00 --> 01:33:03 it's we're not it's not it doesn't necessarily need to be a race to the bottom
01:33:03 --> 01:33:08 as yeah it's it's less of a nihilist like yeah it's less of a nihilist spiral
01:33:08 --> 01:33:13 and more of a like you have a You have a fighting chance because you have the
01:33:13 --> 01:33:20 forces of light on your side or you believe hard enough in the light to quell the darkness.
01:33:21 --> 01:33:25 And I like that. I mean, I love Call of Cthulhu and I love the horror of all this.
01:33:25 --> 01:33:30 And there's a humanist part of me that really likes this emphasis on,
01:33:30 --> 01:33:33 you know, a human's worth and the resilience.
01:33:34 --> 01:33:38 And, you know, we. The power of the human, the strength of the human spirit.
01:33:39 --> 01:33:43 Yeah. And I mean, it's great. I look forward to seeing more of this.
01:33:43 --> 01:33:50 I want to also kind of mention to you and readers as well, there was two books that was given to us.
01:33:51 --> 01:33:54 Two starving nose and this they actually
01:33:54 --> 01:33:57 have a gm's guide that goes with it
01:33:57 --> 01:34:00 which goes over gm and the demonic
01:34:00 --> 01:34:05 elements portals items and stuff like that there's there's like 189 additional
01:34:05 --> 01:34:10 pages to the 301 that we're dealing with with this book so if you were to actually
01:34:10 --> 01:34:16 you know purchase this book pdfs or whatnot you're you know you're getting almost
01:34:16 --> 01:34:19 500 pages worth of stuff And as of a couple,
01:34:20 --> 01:34:25 this is October that we're recording this in, but I know that recently Two Starving
01:34:25 --> 01:34:31 Nose finished up a, they were doing another Kickstarter for their first campaign,
01:34:31 --> 01:34:37 which was like the, I'd have to see if I can find it real quick.
01:34:37 --> 01:34:41 It was something Winchester, and I apologize, I don't know this,
01:34:42 --> 01:34:45 but they did actually, there's like a campaign book that came out.
01:34:46 --> 01:34:53 I hope i hope so otherwise i'm gonna actually have to redact this yeah also
01:34:53 --> 01:34:56 i just gotta say every time we every time we come every time you say the the
01:34:56 --> 01:34:59 name of this company two starving gnolls i was like somebody feed these gnolls,
01:35:01 --> 01:35:04 i'm sure that they i'm sure they haven't heard that before.
01:35:06 --> 01:35:10 Sure. It's a great game. I look forward to it, and I look forward to seeing
01:35:10 --> 01:35:13 what we can do with it. So I guess final thoughts on this.
01:35:14 --> 01:35:19 I regret not backing it when I saw it on Kickstarter advertised on social media
01:35:19 --> 01:35:22 a couple years ago, or whenever it did. I can't remember the time.
01:35:23 --> 01:35:29 But I saw this. It intrigued me, and I just missed out on it.
01:35:29 --> 01:35:35 And then they have a decent presence on Facebook. I saw again that you could
01:35:35 --> 01:35:41 pre-order or buy stuff from them, pre-order the books, and that's kind of how I rediscovered it.
01:35:42 --> 01:35:47 And I wouldn't be surprised if I don't go out and pick up these physical copies of the books.
01:35:47 --> 01:35:53 They look beautiful, and I'm excited to play, you know, 18th century Constantine.
01:35:55 --> 01:35:59 No, that's basically what, again, that's like Constantine or,
01:35:59 --> 01:36:04 yeah, like 19th century Constantine meets what I suspect meets Helsing.
01:36:05 --> 01:36:11 So, yeah, no, same. Like, I honestly, this is a good sigh and a good,
01:36:11 --> 01:36:19 like, just like, because I realized, like, I have a sneaking suspicion that after, like,
01:36:19 --> 01:36:24 playing this and then after, if we actually, if and when we get to play Gaslighting by Gaslight.
01:36:25 --> 01:36:28 I feel like I'm probably going to end up having another purchase to do a Gen
01:36:28 --> 01:36:29 Con the next time I'm there.
01:36:30 --> 01:36:35 Yeah. If it's available at Gen Con, I will probably be purchasing it there.
01:36:36 --> 01:36:40 And I actually found what I was talking about with the other book as well.
01:36:40 --> 01:36:45 So the recent one that is, oh shit, it's still going on, Chris.
01:36:45 --> 01:36:47 We have 63 hours to back it.
01:36:47 --> 01:36:51 Well, I may actually back it just to get the frigging other books into.
01:36:51 --> 01:36:55 But it's the additional book is called Winchester Tales.
01:36:55 --> 01:36:57 It's a supplement for Exorcist Codex.
01:36:57 --> 01:37:02 Winchester Tales expands on the Exorcist Codex with new scenarios set in 1890s.
01:37:02 --> 01:37:08 Winchester play as a full campaign or stand alone. It includes new demonic items,
01:37:08 --> 01:37:13 new holy artifacts, relics, new arch demons, the realms, and more.
01:37:13 --> 01:37:17 Where we, you said it takes place in 1890s Winchester. Like where is that in
01:37:17 --> 01:37:18 Winchester? Like where?
01:37:19 --> 01:37:22 I really don't know. off the top of my head I don't
01:37:22 --> 01:37:26 see well I'm just wondering is it Winchester Kentucky I
01:37:26 --> 01:37:30 wish I wish that would have been hilarious yeah well I did find that call could
01:37:30 --> 01:37:35 be a scenario set up not to dox myself but I'm sorry I don't work Winchester
01:37:35 --> 01:37:40 no shadow give damn they can find there's only one of me on the planet and also
01:37:40 --> 01:37:44 to be fair like Moorhead Mysteries is sort of yeah I'm out there.
01:37:46 --> 01:37:50 But, I mean, it looks really cool. And if you guys are interested in this as
01:37:50 --> 01:37:54 well, just a shout-out at the top of my lungs on this.
01:37:55 --> 01:38:03 If you go to DriveThruRPG, you can also pick up a sample scenario called The
01:38:03 --> 01:38:08 Unintended Faceless, which is a short, high-tension, demonic incidence in the Exorcist Codex.
01:38:08 --> 01:38:10 So, you know, you can pick it up for free.
01:38:10 --> 01:38:13 A nice little scenario.
01:38:13 --> 01:38:18 All right. I'm going to go ahead and add it to my card. right now so
01:38:18 --> 01:38:21 well thanks again folks for
01:38:21 --> 01:38:25 tuning in i want to let my good co-founder of
01:38:25 --> 01:38:30 the crit of the night network crazon chris can would you care to tell them about
01:38:30 --> 01:38:34 yourself and what you do on the crit of the night network and where they can
01:38:34 --> 01:38:41 find you sure well when i'm not hanging out with adam on rpx i have my own two podcasts.
01:38:42 --> 01:38:48 At least one of them is tabletop based. The tabletop one is One Less Die,
01:38:48 --> 01:38:54 which is a actual play podcast where I've been collecting or I've been recording
01:38:54 --> 01:39:00 and editing the various game sessions and campaigns that I've run and that some
01:39:00 --> 01:39:03 of my friends have run for the past like decade now.
01:39:03 --> 01:39:06 And so I'm now getting around to editing them and posting them.
01:39:06 --> 01:39:10 We range from cthulhu d20
01:39:10 --> 01:39:13 pathfinder dungeon dragons fifth edition
01:39:13 --> 01:39:17 monster of the week dungeon world shadow
01:39:17 --> 01:39:21 run is our most prominent one uh since it's the one that inspired us to to actually
01:39:21 --> 01:39:28 do the actual play podcast but uh yeah and and when i'm not playing games i
01:39:28 --> 01:39:35 am reading creepypasta with my other two co-hosts on al dente rigor mortis which is a,
01:39:36 --> 01:39:39 creepypasta discussion podcast where I'm
01:39:39 --> 01:39:45 there cloaked as the review cultist with my two other associates Mikey the East
01:39:45 --> 01:39:49 Ends for Evil and the Gamer in Yellow and weekly we will read a creepypasta
